the next model......as in the Xbox 2 or whatever the next gen console will be?

or the inevitable slim/redesigned X1?

The redesign. I don't know if there's an official term for that, so I just call them models.

The 360 went through several models / designs, so we may actually get one that isn't remarkably different from the outside.

The PS3 only went through four.

Don't you mean 3? Not counting multiple SKUs of different configurations, there were three major models

what havoc said. there was the fat, the slim, and the super slim.

the 360 had different versions of the same model, and one redesign.

Waiting to play Diablo 3.. it downloaded and installed real quick yesterday. I was pretty impressed. Wish I didn't have to wait til 3 AM EST to play it. It's not a competitive game.. so I wish it released at midnight EST here.

Yea I hate that. Wish these games would go live in YOUR time zone. Why I gotta wait for the damn west coast to catch up?

They give some BS excuse about how we'd have a full 3 hours on everyone else.. and that's not fair, blah, blah, blah.

I'm not sure. Do the two fat models count as different configurations? Because the absence of the emotion engine (as well as two USB ports) seems like it ought to count.

Haha really? But that doesnt stop me from going out to Gamestop at midnight est and snagging the game "3 hours early". I swear man, as hardcore as Sony and MS want us to go digital, they sure don't offer up many incentives.

Technically it had two redesigns, the first redesign which they called the 360 S, with the touch on/off button then the 2nd redesign was made to look similar to the X1.

Exactly. They sited complaints gamers had about it not being fair that competitive games come out first on the east coast and east coasters are given 3 extra hours.

Extreme BS. Like you said.. it doesn't stop anyone from going to GameStop or Walmart.

Nah, Id say there were three, fat, slim and superslim. If you count the first 80gb one (w/o EE and 2 USB ports), then you might as well count the 20gb as a separate one (matte exterior, no WiFi) and the original 40gb (no Graphics Synthesizer). That would be 4 fat models

ohhh so they had a more recent redesign? i was not aware of that. and yeah, when the S came out in 2010 everybody called it the slim model

Sony tangles with the mystery of PS4's success, fights to understand the future

Sony Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida recently admitted he's a "bit nervous" about the success of the PlayStation 4. The console has sold 10 million units and the current generation is trending stronger than last. Will it run out of core customers?

"You need to understand why your products are selling well so you can plan for the future, right? It defied the conventional thinking," Yoshida recently told Eurogamer. "Lots of people thought the dedicated game hardware might not be needed going forward, but still lots of people are very excited."

The rightful concern Yoshida brings up is that Sony will exhaust the core customer. That the number of consumers interested in playing video games is a finite number that the company will rapidly reach with the new console. The good news for Sony is its initial market research is showing it's obtaining lots of new customers who didn't own a PS3, with some who didn't own any last-gen hardware. Continue Reading

I saw this in the comments section of the gamespot version of this article

Did he just say that people who bought the PS4 dont have conventional thinking? I'm not sure if I'm offended or not.

the article said that the PS4 selling so well defied conventional thinking.

didn't say that gamers who bought PS4s don't have conventional thinking.......

but even for yoshida to say that, for gamers on the brink of getting a Ps4, that'll cast doubts and make them think of dropping 4 blocks is really worth it

why would it?

it's just saying that the PS4 sales exceeded their expectations, especially in a time when many were questioning the future of consoles ( vs the shift to mobile gaming ).

if anything, it shows that there still is demand for consoles and console games.

well if consumers see less confidence in sony and them not knowing what they were doing, they'll lose trust in the company they're paying, you know?

Your everyday consumer has never heard of and will never hear of Yoshida or anything he has to say. It's no issue but at least shows commendable "eyes open" caution from an exec.

eh. I think you're reading way too much into the article.

what will cause consumers to lose confidence in Sony is if they rest on their lead and start getting complacent and start falling behind the X1 in adding features to the PS4.

question - are you logged into both usernames at the same time?

and na man, it's not even about that article, I've been thinking about this for a long time. Sony's been having issues for like more than a year now yeah? and consumers should be fully aware of that... my thought is, is the average consumer going to put their faith in a company that's not confident in themselves? maybe they are with their words, but not with their practice

you know wat im sayin?
