Also, does that game make your fans kick on? I'm just curious because I found that very odd.

I played Destiny and Watch Dogs, and although the former made odd disc noise, none of them every made the fans audible. The moment I started up Last of Us, my PS4 fans became PS3 loud.

ok. with Last of Us in my PS4, I booted up the system.

while the system boots up, you can hear the fans get loud ( but not abnormally loud ) for about 1 minute. then it "winds down" and goes into the normal quiet mode. you can hear the fans/system going, but it's just purring along. not jet engine loud or anything.

so, once I start up the game, again, the fans get louder for about 30 seconds or so, then it goes back to quiet normal mode.

so, nothing abnormally loud to me. and I'd say that's probably the case for my other games that I've played.

to me, my system sounds normal. nothing to make me go "hmmmm......that doesn't sound right or that's really annoying to listen to."

Never played the Dragon Age games, but I'm willing to give them a try.

see, those are the games that interest me. the Bioware games especially ( Dragon Age and Mass Effect ) cuz they focus on story and characters.

ah, fair enough. I hope Inquisition is good and gets good reviews. it's like my single most anticipated game of the whole year......lol.

and what really sucks is that it was supposed to come out in just 2 weeks ( Oct. 7 ) but got delayed to Nov. 18. :(

I like medieval fantasy stuff more than sci-fi, and I really liked Dragon Age Origins ( the 1st game ). Dragon Age II, though, was a let down.

so, I'm cautiously optimistic about Inquisition.

ah man that sucks that it got delayed, then again I'm quite excited for DC but that **** got delayed for damn near a year.

and the funny thing is... on the bioware forums once the controversy with Me3 started, a lot of people began casting doubts for DA3, which is what inquisiton is, yeah? The reviews for Me3 were acclaiming, and I wouldn't be surprised if Da3 is similar, but I'd have to see what the DA community has to say about it as well, you know

Okay. And the disc drive?

well, what's the disc drive supposed to sound like?

I don't hear any grinding/chirping noises, that's for sure.

when the PS4 starts or when you start up a game, you can hear the "gears" "click" and make that mechanical "whir" sound. then the fans get a little louder. then you hear the "gears" click and sort of "wind down" and then the fans get softer and go into normal running sound.

so, I don't know if I'm hearing the disc drive or not. but, again, nothing loud or grinding or annoying or anything.

does that make sense? I'm trying my best to describe what I hear.......lol.

and yeah......Inquisition is DA 3. and yeah, I'm sure many people, myself included, started to worry after the ME 3 debacle. that's why I'm cautiously optimistic. especially after the letdown that was DA 2.

but it's a different team working on the DA games than the ME games ( I'm pretty sure ). and from everything that I've seen and read and heard, it really does seem like they've learned from the mistakes they made with DA 2 and have combined the best aspects of Origin and DA 2.

hopefully, they deliver.

Hmm. Well, it's hard to describe, but it should be noticeable. Just mute your television. Normally, when you open a game you'll hear the disc drive – from what I'm being told – for a few seconds (the PS4 checking the disc) and then silence (from the disc drive, anyway).

My first PS4 did that with Watch Dogs, which is why I got so concerned when it acted very differently with other discs.

This second PS4 however, with every game, the disc drive continues to fairly loudly read the disc for five minutes.

Even if I just start up the PS4 with a disc inside, 5 minutes of disc drive noise.

With the exception of Last of Us, I never even heard my PS4's fans, so the only audible sound was the disc drive.

you hear louder noise for several seconds ( probably around 30 seconds or so ) then it goes silent.

to me, it sounds more like the fan running. but certainly nothing that sounds like a buzz saw or grinding noise or anything like that.

and I had my TV volume to 0 and my computer was off, so no other noises in the room when I tested it out.

even if it is a different team, they're working under the same roof. they're fully aware of the **** that happened during around the Me3 release but yeah, doesn't hurt to be optimistic.

...although I was optimistic when the extended cut was released but that didn't fix anything :cmad:

the extended cut of ME 3??

didn't that flesh out the endings a bit more?

I actually skipped ME 3 entirely due to the endings controversy. I remember, I preordered the collector's edition early on. but, like the day before release, videos and articles started popping up online about the endings.

I watched some of them and was like..........seriously.....wtf??!!!

needless to say, I cancelled my preorder..........:o

not really. they were just ****in slideshows of **** that we coulda predicted for ourselves. nothing of any new, sentimental value or things that told you crucial parts to the story or about the characters.

and yeah... I wish I cancelled my preorder... I had the collectors edition too :o

people place the blame on EA for this thing, in fact a lot of people hate EA in general; I don't, it's thanks to them that I was able to enjoy Me2 on my Ps3

I think the central "problem" that people had with the ME 3 endings is that it essentially robbed players of "choice." all the choices and decisions that you made, in the end, didn't really matter that much.

would you say that's fair?

I also think that "lack of choice" hampered DA 2.

again, right before the game got released, people who had early copies started posting their impressions/experiences with it online. I read some of them and was disappointed to learn that, in the end, you really don't have much choice or say in the matter. And you're sort of forced to pick between 2 "equally bad" choices without the choice to pick a 3rd option that says "screw you. you both suck. I'm going a different route."

And these Bioware games are largely built around player choices and decisions.

and again, they've said that in Inquisition, your choices and decisions will matter more so than the prior games. hopefully that is the case.

it wasn't even a lack of choice that killed it for me it's that it just ended. in previous mass effect games after you complete the game you can TALK to people about everything that's happened and what not. when you finish Me3 it automatically redirects to you to the pre-cerberus attack.

Interesting. This is what I'm generally being told, so I suppose I do have a problem.

There does seem to be a lot of variation.

yeah....I think Amazon got a bad batch of the White consoles, and you were the unfortunate recipient of 2 of them.

maybe in the future, you'll give the PS4 another chance and get the standard black model instead. hopefully, you'll have a much better experience with that one.

and hope you can return the consoles to Amazon and get a full refund without hassle ( or banning ).

ah, see, I never finished the other ME games, so I didn't know.

I did find it hard to go back to ME 1 after playing ME 2, cuz 2 introduces the new combat style and combat wise, ME 1 feels like a totally different game.

Refund certainly. Banning... hopefully not.

I do buy a lot of crap from them. Hell, I've bought 100 dollars in stuff since I got the PS4.

I think I'm going to wait on the PS4 for now. Hopefully the next iteration will be a bit less temperamental.

Or who knows, maybe I'll take my chances again when I see a really good deal.

Part of why I'm so quick to part with it is because, well, for 450 it isn't a steal. Especially now that Destiny turned out to be a game that I probably wouldn't even buy separately.

But I appreciate all your help.

hey. no problem. and with me, you got 2 identities helping you for the price of one ( X Knight and Raven X )............:o :oldrazz:

and yeah.....if you're in no hurry to get another console, I'd probably wait. BF and Xmas are coming up and you can be sure there are going to be deals on these consoles.

probably no price cuts, though. but at least games will be on sale, so that will save money.

I do wonder just what deals will be available this year. especially from MS. they're still playing catch up, so I wouldn't be surprised if they get aggressive again like the "free game" deal week.

Come November the question will be which free game to choose.

I didn't get a PS3 until 2013, so the equivalent of that this generation would be me not getting a PS4 until 2020.

Puts things in perspective.

I am still playing games on the PS3 I missed.

wow!! you are a latecomer.......lol.

but man. it would be nice if MS ran another free game week in November or December. be even nicer if Sony did a similar promotion.

I just know there will be more games that interest me that I could choose from. if it's before Nov 18, I'd get Sunset or AC. After Nov 18, I'd definitely choose Dragon Age as my free game.

in hindsight, knowing what I know now about Destiny, I'm kind of glad I returned that with the X1. I suppose I'd have less to complain about since I got it free, but I guess I'd feel like I wasted my free game on one that doesn't suit me much. I could have chosen another game instead.

but more so than a free game, what I really want from MS this holiday is a standard 1 TB model. I'm really, really reluctant to get the current 500GB model. And I'm even debating if I should hold out and wait for the inevitable Slim model or one that lets you replace the hdd.

but, I don't know if I can wait that long...........lol.

yeah and since I started off with Me2, I felt like the combat in Me1 was... really not so great lol. I imagine dragon age is completely different in combat tho

yeah......DA is different in combat. certainly no "duck n cover" shooting involved.........lol.

but even with DA, there was a change in combat style between the 1st and 2nd game. The 1st game combat feels more stilted and "mechanical." In DA 2, they made the combat more stylish and flashy. The combat in DA 2 is the one area that I prefer over the 1st game, and after playing 2, it is hard to go back to the stiffer combat animations in 1.

Inquisition looks to retain the flashier style of combat from 2, while toning it down a bit. so, again, a happy medium between the 1st and 2nd games.

I liked the beta but I don't like that the game is only online. Not interested in a game like that

same here. I'm glad I cancelled my last minute preorder for the PS4 version and glad I returned it with my X1.

oh, and looks like this weekend all PS4 owners get free online play access!!
