hah!!

just downloaded it.

played around with the folders a bit. created one called Utilities for the Media Player and Web Browser. created one called Physical Games for all my disc based games. and one called Digital Games for all my digital stuff (duh). might create a Demo folder for my demos.

overall, I like the Folders. too bad there doesn't seem to be a way to arrange the folders in your desired order. seems like the newest one you create always goes to the left. Might have to start all over to create the folders in the order I want them.

also, still no option for custom wallpaper/theme. :(
There are no sorting options but you can manually sort them by clicking the icon and moving it to your desired position

I just found out that you can batch add items as well which is a big help bc this morning I was adding things one by one

you can manually sort the order of the folders themselves?

or is that just for sorting the items within the folder?

You can manually sort the order of items within the folder. Outside the folders, they sort themselves like everything else on the PDM, and thats by last use

ah, I see. thanks.

hopefully in a future update, they will let us "pin" and rearrange the folders in the spots we want them.

still, having games grouped by folder is a lot more manageable than having all those individual icons on the bar.

I really like the changes. I love that I can access Spotify and get my playlists going without exiting my game.

so.......umm......what's the deal with the white background/black text notifications??

it's like the inverse of what it was before......

anyway to change it back to the old style?

also, is anyone else having this problem since the update?

before, when you press "down" on a game, you can see what add ons/DLC you have for that game.

now, I can't see the add ons anymore.

even when I go to the Library, I can see the number of add ons I have for a game, but no way to actually check and see what those add ons are.

I don't know if you can change it back. I kinda like how the news ones look though.

taking me a little while to get used to it like all major FW updates. my only issue so far was when I turned it on this morning to resume the extras for TF:The Movie (86) it just kept loading showing different versions of the PS icons animating over and over. I ejected disc, and put it back in same thing. tried a different disc, same thing, so i turned it off and then back on again and no issues since.

I guess I'll get used to it. but still, it would be nice to have the option to change the way you want it to look.

Ok well.. I'm here to eat crow. I proclaimed that the PS4 Pro wasn't going to be that noticeable... and I was 100% wrong.

I say that because yesterday I got 60" 4K LG.. and I turned HDR on my PS4 and watched some comparison videos of PS4 vs PS4 Pro... and I couldn't believe the difference. I have no problem admitting I was wrong... I won't be trading my PS4 in towards a pro..so I'm not getting it launch day.. but around Feb? For sure.

Should everyone run out and get a 4K tv for it now? No.. but if you're in line to upgrade your current set... it'll be worth it.

thanks for sharing, Benstamania.

but that means, to see the true difference and benefits of the Pro, you really do need a 4K+HDR tv.

that's why I think Sony ( and MS ) should really put demo units of their Pro and S consoles in the hdtv sections of retailers like Best Buy, so the consumer CAN see the difference these 4K/HDR tvs make.

and the more I use Update 4.0, the more I dislike it.

sure, the Folders and new Quick Menu are nice. but I really hate what they did with the game info section, and more specifically, what they did with the Add-ons/DLC section.

before, when you pressed Down on a game, you could select a section that let you see all the Add-Ons/DLC you've purchased and installed for the game. You could tell what you had installed and/or simply click on the Add-on to install it.

Now, that's all gone.

Some games like Dragon Age Inquisition no longer show any Add-on section. Other games like Street Fighter V do show and Add-on section, but not specifically the ones you have purchased/installed yourself.

Even in the Library, you can see how many Add-ons you have for the game, but no way to actually check what those are.

so far, the only I've been able to see what Add-ons/DLC I've purchased for a game is to search for it in the Store and check the add-ons there. but that's highly tedious and inconvenient.

I don't know if this is merely a bug or a design choice. But it needs to be fixed asap. same with the white box notifications.

It's going to be a tough sell for both Sony and Microsoft because I feel like the percentage of the gaming population that has 4K ready TVs is really small. Much like with VR, it's hard to fully get people to understand what it is when they don't have access to the tech to show it off.

I was talking to someone yesterday and told them, while the Pro is definitely an upgrade, the fact that Sony admitted that they are working on it to target console players that have moved to PC, it seems like it doesn't quite hit its mark. For people who already own a console, they still need a 4K/HDR TV to fully see the potential, and even if people want to buy the Pro and the TV, the price of that is most likely going to be more than it would be to build a PC that's capable of running games at 60fps with nice visuals.

I saw Digital Foundry compare the PC and Pro version of Rise of the Tomb Raider, and while they said the Pro is certainly impressive, there's still some things that the Pro removed, possibly because it's not as powerful to run all of the added effects without any side effects to performance. So I think overall, if you're the type of person that really wants the best quality, then you might be better off investing in a PC. But if you're perfectly satisfied with the console experience and have the money to upgrade, then go with the Pro.

But either way, it's going to be a tough sell for both the Pro and Scorpio, until 4K becomes more common and affordable.

that's true.

I was watching a YouTube discussion panel last night. And these guys were pro-Sony fans. But even they were underwhelmed by the Pro's reveal and questioned it's place in the console ecosystem. None of them were that eager to upgrade to a 4K tv soon, so they felt they had no real need to upgrade to the Pro.

As you said, 4K tv ownership right now is small and niche and even smaller with 4K+HDR. Maybe the S and Pro will boost 4K/HDR adoption or maybe not.

4K is the next logical step for anyone looking for a tv. Look there are going to be a/v guys that insist that you must spend 2k plus on the best 4K imaginable.. but mine was 849.. 4K with HDR10. I can tell a major difference. 4K will only get cheaper too. Pro may not sell gangbusters BUT the Scorpio will.. I do t care what anyone says that is the next gen of MS hardware.. it's not a new XB1.. so I think for that alone it will sell.

By the time the PS5 hits 4K tvs will be even cheaper than. Ow.. and I'd predict many will upgrade. Even if they only do it for tax return or whatever .

Yeah, I heard someone joke during the console that Sony sounded like they were selling a TV more than a console, and it's kinda true. They're selling us on the tech behind why the new console is relevant, but in reality, it's just an option.

The comparison to Microsoft, in my opinion, is irrelevant in some sense because it's more powerful than the S and the Scorpio is still a year away so it's hard to say exactly how much more powerful it will be or what the price is. But the comparisons to PC, in terms of power, make more sense because that is what Sony said they are targeting. What a lot of people don't understand, mostly because they don't have experience with PC Gaming, is that the biggest draw to that is the ability to have options in your experience. Like I like the option to play RoTR at 60fps in 1080p or in 4K at 30fps. For console, that's a nice option, but for PC gamers, it seems like a poor tradeoff because you can get both quality graphics and 60fps in most PCs, assuming you have a rig that can run them without performance issues.

So for me, it's hard to justify getting a Pro and a 4K TV now. But I do think that Sony is doing what Nintendo did with the Wii, which is looking ahead and trying to adapt to what is coming. 4K TVs are the future, much like Widescreen HD was the future when the PS3 first launched. With a 2:1 lead over Microsoft, Sony needs to take a risk, and Microsoft understands this as well because they are taking the same risks, so I have no problem with the Pro or Scorpio, but I also think that they're going to start off slow because the tech that they need to succeed as not as readily available at a price that people are comfortable with, so it will be a tough sell early on.

yeah. I've got my eye on a 40" Samsung 4k+HDR tv for $600. A few months ago when I started looking at it, it was like $700-$800. So, by the end of the year ( like around BF ) or by next year at least, that set could very well go for $400-$500. Or else, a better set will be available for $600-$800.

contrast that to when I got my current 40" 1080p tv back in 2008. It cost like $1500-$1700 if I recall.

so, yeah, by the time Scorpio hits Holiday 2017 and certainly by the time PS5 gets released, 4K/HDR tvs will be cheaper and more commonplace.

Now, though, it does feel like it's a year or so too early.

that's why I'm strongly considering just getting an S now, and holding on to my PS4 and S for another few years or so on my 1080p tv, and then make the upgrade to 4K with either the Scorpio or PS5. By then, 4K tvs will be cheaper and more of the "standard."

Right now, unless my 1080p breaks down ( which I hope it doesn't.....lol ), and unless there are going to be "4k exclusive" games, I have no real reason to go all in with a 4K console and 4K tv.

back in 2008, I saw the games on the 360 and how you needed an HDtv to really enjoy those. So, I had a reason to upgrade from my PS2 and standard box tv to the new standard of HDtv.

don't really see that need right now to upgrade to a 4Ktv.

Now, maybe if I actually saw in person at a store the difference 4K/HDR makes with games running on a Pro ( or S ), I might change my mind.

but, that goes back to the point of how this is kind of a hard sell to the average consumer who doesn't already have a 4K/HDR tv.

My thing is I have a 40" 1080p LCD TV that I got back in 2010 and it still works like a charm. I've never had any problems with it and I can't really justify getting a new TV. I can probably afford both the Pro and a 4K TV by the end of th eyear, but I also just got my PS4 last November, so it kinda feels like I'm wasting money on things I truly don't need. Maybe in a year or two if things change, I might re-consider. But for now, I can't justify an upgrade of any kind.

yeah, I can understand someone like you who just got a PS4 recently and who doesn't feel too keen on upgrading so soon. I can only imagine how someone who just got a PS4 in the last few months must feel.....lol.

I've had my PS4 since launch. so, I am ready to upgrade if there's a nice trade in incentive, even though I'm not too happy about upgrading so soon either. But, if nothing else, I can upgrade to get the latest tech.

and the one advantage the Pro does have over the S is the power advantage and that the Pro seemingly can benefit 1080p owners. And the power advantage is hard to ignore ( the S is less powerful than the original PS4 even ).

so, technically, I could upgrade to the Pro first and continue using my 1080p tv. and then get the 4K tv later on when a good deal arises. that would certainly be easier on the budget.

it's just a shame the Pro doesn't include a 4K player so I'd be all set once I do upgrade to a 4K tv.

and to follow up on the Add-On/DLC issue.

it looks like the other way to view and download all of your Add-Ons is to use the PS store on your computer, log in, and go to your Download List.

still, that's nowhere near as convenient as being able to view that stuff by game directly on the PS4, like you could do before.

thats not a rumor and that doesnt make sense why it isnt in the Pro

oh, I wouldn't be surprised if Sony withheld a 4K player in the Pro so they can push their own standalone player.

Sony wants digital 4K movie purchases on the Pro. They just won't say it.
