Maybe it's because much to my surprise, Pyro was my favorite in X2 but I can't imagine him being killed off for a couple of reasons. The first one being that if they 'Young X-Men' goes ahead as rumored they will need to keep the Iceman rivalry alive. No raft of new baddies that can be pulled out of the x-universe can compete with the arc that the has been set up in the last two films.

The second reason is that Pyro's power looks so spectacular on film. I imagine that quite a lot of his effects are practical too (less CGI).

Correct me if I'm wrong, but did the Junior Novel spoiler thread say*Spoiler perhaps*

Just a random thought that came to me in a French exam today…I’m sure we have all seen iceman’s ability to ‘ice-up’, well seeing as pyro is invulnerable to his own fire surely he could do a similar thing by covering himself with flames? I doubt they would try anything like this in the film, but I thought it was a prety cool idea. But then maybe it would burn his clothes off…wait…that’s another plus in my opinion!

I wouldn't go by the books. They won't be entirely accurate to the movie.

For Pyro to control fire he has to be able to see it... and if it's all around his body... well he can't really do that.

Plus Pyro does not have that power in the comics and shouldn't ever resemble the Human Torch.

Pyro can only manipulate fire, not generate it as well. I don't think he's even immune to his own power: but he knows what he can do with it.
