The Official Red Robin discussion thread

Well #2 was interesting to say. Red Robin is really going nuts, he is all "i used to be Robin. Im a hero nomore, must find Bruce... im alone... must find Bruce" style. Ending makes me question whats going to happen. =O For those interest it ends with:
Tim comes to the conclusion only Ras' al ghul can help him, so he contacts him and Ras' grins.

EDIT: Bah double post! >:(

I think the issue was great. I hope they actually are laying the foundation for Bruce's return. I think it's interesting how desperate Tim is to find Bruce not only to find his father, but it also seems that he is also trying to regain his role/identity as Robin.

^ Buy both issues. It's the best of the new titles after Batman & Robin and Detective Comics.

Agreed. This issue was great. I think I'm not as disappointed with how Tim just wandered off after this issue because of [BLACKOUT]all the messages from his High School friends and Alfred, etc.[/BLACKOUT] I still am not a huge fan of the costume, but I hated Nightwing's costume for a long time.

I thought it was eh so so, enjoyed issue 1 more at points. I think the scene between Cas and Tim was well done and it was nice to see a reference to Ives, but again a lot of the dialogue seemed forced and heavy handed not as bad as in BATMAN though. It's also good to see Tim thinking to himself and paying attention to every small detail during battle. That was one of the coolest trademarks of his ROBIN book and one of the things that makes him so similar to Bruce.

I don't get my comics until Saturday, but issue 1 was atrocious. It twisted and turned Tim Drake's character like Satan's washer on a high spin cycle, then spit him out like a guest at a Shula's bar and grill would spit out a Big Mac.

The art wasn't too special either.

I'm not big on the costume either, but I'm warming too it. and yeah I thought the mention of his old supporting cast was another good move. "Delete All".

i think it could be WAAAY better. For some reason i feel like Tim should become a time traveler trying to find Bruce. And in the process pick up some supporting characters from the past, future, or whatever. Then in the end when he finally reaches the dawn of man and finds Bruce he's like 30 or 40.

Nahhh..

This series is...okay so far. I'm cautious to keep buying. It just kind of reminds me of the uber annoying Tim Drake from the Resurection of Ras Al Ghul arc. And now Ras is back in the picture, which makes me afraid that it'll go down the same whiny path again.

I loved that part too!

I'm hoping the costume goes through some more modification as he moves out into his own more. I'd even be happy with a new name change too.

Ok...I have to know.

Red Robin came from KINGDOM COME, last I knew. How did Tim come up with the exact same idea, right down to the costume design, that an adult Dick Grayson did in KINGDOM COME?
Maybe we're supposed to believe that Dick, as an adult, well in the future, assumed Tim's persona of the Red Robin?

Red Robin # 3

For twenty two pages worth reading material, not a lot happened to progress the story. Tim finds a clue he has to … liberate from a museum, and a ridiculous – hero, if you can call him that – proclaiming himself as the “Wild Huntsman” busts in to stop him. Tim then has to juggle between running of with the evidence, fighting the Huntsman, and keeping Ra’s goons from killing the guards and the Huntsman, who have now been instructed to help Timothy with his search.

Meanwhile, League of Assassin members are still being picked off like flies by various killers all using spider themes, leading up to a future plot I’m sure.

The issue also flashbacks to before Tim left for his global mission. He converses with Cassie at Bruce’s grave, and she wants to be there for Tim to help him through his grief and troubles, like a good friend should. It’ll be interesting to see what Connor has to say about Tim and Cassie becoming such “good friends” while he was away, but that’s for a later time I’m sure. Probably Adventure Comics #3.

Anyways, Tim describes how he feels responsible for the death of Anarky’s siblings and those Jason Todd killed on his rampage as Evil Batman since Tim let him escape jail. Yeah, more guilt ridden angst, because Tim certainly doesn’t have enough of that. An interesting tidbit that got me was that Tim is shown to have been submitted to the Anti-Life equation during Darkseid’s attacks in Final Crisis. It was nice to see what happened to the Boy Wonder during that time, as it was just left unknowns, though it just adds to another hardship in the long list of crappy things that has befallen Tim in the last few years.

Back to the story, Cassie is unable to share Tim’s sentiments with Bruce really being alive, linking the issue to her grief over Connor in 52, and this opts Tim to leave her. She then calls Dick for help in reaching Tim, which leads me to believe that the advertised fight between Tim and Dick will be a flashback one set before Tim leaves, and not during his ventures.

The story ends with Tim being approached by the same three goons, offering their obedience to him and his cause so long as Ra’s orders it, as he wants Tim to learn the truth about Bruce’s fate and share it with him. He probably also wants Tim to help him stop the killers hunting his men down, but that’s probably for later.

Issue 3 was grating to say the least a lot of hackneyed dialogue in the caption boxes, choppy art and most disappointing of all like 0 development and progress from the first 2 issues. We still don't know why Tim thinks Bruce is alive yet and is so sure about it. The pacing in this book is horrible and Im seriously considering just dropping it right now.

I have to agree this isn't was nothing special, but i still prefer it over Gotham Sirens so i'm willing to give it a few more issues a chance.

yeah I thought this issue was kind of slow but then so was the new Batman so maybe its just a slow month.

#3 was the only issue I hated... that one totally lost focus on the story

but c'mon those who saw Tim see Bruce's cave painting, that was a huge selling point for me as obvious as it was in FC

I really liked how it started, with Tim traveling around the world, searching for clues. It had a James Bond feel to it. But its getting derailed now that Ras interfered. Of course they couldnt sustain a monthly comic book series for long if Tim is only searching for clues, but this is getting out of hand.

Then, the story sometimes is completely stupid. Like how a huge criminal organisation would desperately need the help of Tim to search for Batman, or even save itself from other assassins. Really Ras?

And then its that thing about the spider assassins. Three of them bust in Ras' headquarters and beat AN ARMY of ninjas. Really now? But then, when all the spider gang surround Tim and Tam, he beats the crap out of them, while also having to protect Tam from harm. So basically:
Tim > 6 spider assassins > an army of ninjas.
What the hell man?

And finally, Ras' gang found "something interesting in a cave" but they had to get Tim to see it and report to Ras?

FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF

I have to say i really found the Spider-Cult arc boring, the villains just didn't appeal to me for some reason. Don't think i wanna see how the next arc goes unless i hear it's good. :p

The next is going to be about stopping Ras from destroying Wayne Ent. Which frankly makes no sense, since he would never do that to Bruce, or Damian. Whatever...
