I thought it would be fun to create a thread dedicated to the comic version of ROGUE, my favorite X-Man. Feel free to post any new or favorite pics or any fan art. There should be a lot to talk about in the upcoming months (her leadership, new X-treme figure, evolving powers)....

Bio (from Marvel.com)...

Raised by her Aunt Carrie after tragedy befell her parents, young Anna Marie ran away from home and was taken in by Mystique and Destiny (Irene Adler), whom Rogue came to regard as her surrogate parents. Rogue's mutant power first manifested in her early teens when she kissed Cody Robbins. Her mind filled with his memories, and he fell into a permanent coma. Eventually realizing she could never safely live among normal people, Rogue began participating in her foster mother's criminal endeavors and came to join Mystique's terrorist Brotherhood of Evil Mutants. On her first mission, the inexperienced Rogue clashed with Ms. Marvel (Carol Danvers) and permanently absorbed the hero's memories and powers, including super-strength and flight.

Distraught over her lack of control, Rogue turned to her enemies, the X-Men. Convinced of her sincerity, Professor Xavier accepted her onto the team; however, it wasn't until Rogue risked her own life to save Wolverine's fiancée Mariko Yashida that she began to gain her teammates' trust. Rogue and teammate Gambit fell in love despite her inability to safely touch him. Eventually, Rogue and five other X-Men formed a splinter group to search for Destiny's diaries, which predicted the future of mutantkind. During their quest Rogue and Gambit were rendered powerless, and the pair seized the opportunity to pursue living a normal life together in the mutant-friendly community of Valle Soleada in California. Soon after, they came to the X-Men's aid against the mutant predator Bogan and subsequently rejoined the team. Regaining her power of absorption thanks to the jumpstarting ability of her teammate Sage, Rogue set out on a personal quest to rediscover her past.

Rogue learned that her parents had sought out the Far Banks, a world of dreams that required a state of heightened consciousness to enter. However, in his desperation to reach it, Owen selfishly betrayed Priscilla and, as a result, Priscilla sacrificed herself to protect the Far Banks from people like him. Traveling to the Far Banks herself, Rogue was able to make peace with her mother's spirit.

Powers and Abilities (from Marvel.com)...

Powers
Rogue is a mutant who formerly possessed the ability to absorb the memories, abilities, personality, and outward physical characteristics of other beings through skin-to-skin contact. Such transfers lasted for 60 times longer than the contact time, with extended contact resulting in the possibility of permanent absorption. No upper limit had been determined for the number of beings Rogue could simultaneously imprint.
Upon absorbing another's memories, Rogue also gained any associated emotional responses. Rogue was typically able to control such emotions, however absorbing psyches more powerful than her own resulted in Rogue’s psyche being supplanted.

After permanently absorbing the powers of Ms. Marvel, Rogue possessed an amalgamated mutant human/alien Kree physiology that granted her a degree of immunity to poisons. Rogue also possessed Ms. Marvel's above normal reflexes and psychic "seventh sense" that enabled her to subconsciously anticipate an opponent’s moves. Whilst Rogue possessed Ms. Marvel's psyche, her "double" consciousness made her resistant to telepathic probes from even the most powerful mind readers.

After absorbing the powers of an alien Skrull, Rogue began to spontaneously reactivate previously absorbed abilities. Rogue could also tap into the residual psychic energy of those she had imprinted to determine their status and to relive past events from their perspective.

Recently, Rogue has seemingly permanently absorbed the fire-based powers of Sunfire.

Abilities
Rogue could formerly draw upon the combat and espionage training of Carol Danvers by granting control of her body to her alternate personality, a duplicate of Danvers'. Rogue can also speak fluent French.

any guesses on how rogues powers will evolve?

carey said he will do something that hasnt been done with her absorbing powers (maybe she will be able to control it) and he said rogue will start off his run with sunfires powers (making it sound as if she wont at some later point)

i'd like to see her just with her own powers for longer than a few issues.. how she manages without another 'permanently' borrowed power so she doesn't ever have to use her own..

Im interested to see what will become of her powers. If she can recall past templates or just control it.

i wasnt a big fan of when she had total recall of all the powers she absorbed. i really wouldnt mind her having just her original powers for a bit, but ireally miss the powerhouse rogue... somehow she needs to get back the ms marvel powers

I'd like her to have Ms. Marvel back but she has always been a powerhouse. I want to see her with just her absortion powers. The thing with Rogue is she can be sooo many things. She has been a powerhouse for so long (I guess she's a flamethrower now) but I would like to see her with different powers. Not sure what though.

the sunfire powers just dont match her personality, it doesnt look right imo (plus she looks just like cannonball and rachel when she flies now). if she had only her absorbtion powers and used them like in evolution, id be happy.

I don't like her Sunfire powers either. I had figured she would loose those powers when Sunfire became a horseman of Apocalypse and got his powers back, but it seems it didn't work out that way. She still needs to loose those powers somehow. I don't mind her just having her original powers for a while, but sometime down the line she should absorb some power perminantly or somehow get her Ms. Marvel powers back.

dont worry, carey def made it sound like she would only have the sunfire powers during the first arc :)

I hope you're right.

I hate the Sunfire powers also. I'd like it if she used her powers like in evolution, like you said. Her powers should be used to a better extent. Otehr than her just being a tank.

Here are some quotes from Mike Carey on Rogue:

Rogue is going to be brought spectacularly and unmistakably to the fore in the book. And whatever words, positive or negative, people may use to describe my portrayal of her, I can guarantee that “whiny” won’t come up. You’ll see her resourcefulness, which edges into recklessness; her willingness to take risks and put herself on the line; her ability to turn a situation around by doing something her opponents couldn’t have foreseen in a million years… stuff like that. I’m hoping that by the time I’m done, even diehard Cannonball and Cable fans will see why it’s her that’s leading the team.

Rogue will, initially, continue to have Sunfire’s powers.

The observation about Rogue’s relationship with Gambit and how that may have changed her makes a lot of sense to me. I’m not going to say “yeah, I’ll definitely show that”, because it’s a question of nuance and I’m not sure that it’s something you’d necessarily want to have spelled out - but I agree with everything you say there and I think it will feed into how I portray her. For the rest… lots of food for thought. As you’ll already have guessed from what I’ve said above, I agree that automatically reaching for romance as the default option in a relationship is limiting and unrealistic. I intend to play up both friendships and the kind of temporary alliances that spring up in a battle situation.

Interesting...she can still always have the Sunfire powers but she can still use her absortion, I think that tends to get forgotten. Can she permanentlyy absorb more than one power at once? And what is the real reason with the white hair? Was she just born with it?

I like your questions.
Lets hope they get answered.

i agree, everyone forgets about her abosrbing power when she has another power (it happened with the ms marvel powers and is happening now).i assume she can permanently absorb more than one power at a time, never happened though.

the reason behind the white hair... in the rogue series (which sadly only ran for 12 issues) there is a flashback to rogue as a baby and she has the white streak, but it is in the front... not the two stripes that she originally had. during the second arc, there is a flashback to when she was in the brotherhood. they show her talking to mystique about how she bleached her hair to have one streak instead of the two (which mystique says she likes the two better)... so there is no real answer lol. i assume she was just born with the two streaks and then changed it to one, who knows.

Hmm thats interesting. I guess she was just born with it. Thats kinda lame.

now that im thinking about it, the single white streak might be her original look (born with it) and then dyed her hair to have the two streaks... and then let it go natural. i have to research this, ill let u know

ok... according to uncannyxmen.net, they have a spotlight on rogue (with scans to back up the info)....

Growing up, Rogue frequently tested her limits. Mystique often needed to keep her in line, as Rogue took her powers too lightly and enjoyed to use her abilities for fun. Rogue also began experimenting with her hair, as she dyed her naturally white streak on top of her head brown, only two replace it with two white streaks on her temples, apparently in an attempt to look older. Mystique did not like this hairdo, but she couldn’t do anything about it.

Shortly after moving into the X-Men's headquarters, Rogue changed her hair back to its original style with the single white streak, possibly to reflect her inner change and to support the idea of a fresh start.

I agree Rogue's new permanent powers don't suit her. Even though I think their just as useful as the Ms. Marvel powers. I hope she does become a powerhouse again someday but she's probably gonna have to lose the Sunfire powers first. I have always preferred Rogue with additional permanent powers because it gives her much more to do and it makes her way more useful in battles. Like what good is she without them in a fight with something like the sentinels? It also gives her the opportunity to spend less time absorbing people so that her mind won't become so crowded.

Let's discuss something here. If Rogue does regain Ms. Marvel's powers again someday, how do you think that will/should happen? I have a few ideas in mind right now but, first I wanna hear yours.

i have been trying to think of a way for rogue to get back the ms marvel powers. sadly i have no ideas...

I don't know. It is hard to think of an intoresting way for her to get those powers back. It would be boring if she simply absorbed them again. Maybe if it was somehow explained that she never lost it in the first place, the Ms. Marvel persona was just way in the back of her mind and it gets unblocked?
I don't know. It's a start.
