Since there is a lack of one on the HYPE, I have taken the liberty to create THE OFFICIAL THREAD for our beloved Master of Darkness, The Shadow... you can talk about anything related to the Shadow, including the new Sam Raimi movie, all the old ones, the pulps, the comics ETC.

i know there are many fans that wish there was as much of a Shadow thread as some of the others....

So here it is...

Talk in this forum should be limited to comics mostly, and the pulps would be probably ok. Technically, any movie talk should go in the Misc. Films forums and considering there are already multiple Shadow threads, including one started by you, it'd be best to stick with those threads.

That being said, I'm a big fan of the Shadow. I recently found a torrent of his comics from the 40's and downloaded it. Honestly, they were pretty bad, but they were still interesting to read. I've been buying the Shadow pulp reprints that Nostalgia Ventures has been putting out too and am enjoying them.

Well, I haven't actually read any of the old pulp or comics, I've looked in my local comic book store and they don't have any. But, soon I hope to purchase a few at a nearby flea market that has a few Comics published by DC. I do think the 94' is pretty good, especially the Special effects. I can't wait for Sam Raimi's. Also, I think Batman owes a lot, to the Shadow. He may never have been invented if it weren't for Lamont Cranston. Also, Batman's dark feel is largely based on the Shadow. I feel the Shadow deserves more recognition than he currently recieves. Hopefully, Raimi's movie'll do it.

Well, maybe bad isn't the right description. Not good would be better. Basically what I'm trying to say is that as someone who has read hundreds of Golden Age comic books, these Shadow books are pretty weak compared to much of what was being produced back then. Considering how popular the character was, I would have thought they would have tried harder to make the comic better. But I can only guess that they thought it was just for kids and it didn't matter.

I'll share a story from one of the comics so that you'll know what I'm talking about:

yeah those comics were bad i guess....

if anyone is looking for comics, let me share these with you. THIS IS THE trades/graphic novels I OWN:

shadow_dc_prvfl_gn.jpg
DC

shadow_marvel_gn.jpg

MARVEL

And Darkhorse did THE SHADOW: IN THE COILS OF LEVIATHAN
(i couldn't find an image) but it's great

AND REALLY It's a great introduction to the character & these books are more than enough for a shadow collection (EVEN FOR THE ULTIMATE FAN)

In your opinion, which is the best publisher of the Shadow. Marvel, DC, or Dark Horse?

well it really depends on the story, because THE BOOKS I MENTIONED ALL ARE VERY FAITHFUL TO THE CHARACTER...

i would say try all three books because DC is great... Denny Oneil's run was some of comics best stuff in the 70's.

1941 was also done by Oneil/ Kaluta.... it deals with HITLER and a woman from Germany in NYC who the nazis try to get back into germany... i think it's Marvel's attempt @ credibility w/ pulp characters

the dark horse book is darker.... and @ times a little hard to follow but it deals with a plot to destroy the city w/ a mythical monster from under the sewers

AS FAR AS WHO IS BETTER, i say they are all the same, but DC's private files IS ESSENTIAL!

as far as where to find it, EBAY or a private seller from Barnes & Noble

hmm......does the Dark Horse version look like Batman dark or Vertigo Sandman dark? Cause I don't mind Batman dark, but am not a big fan of how dark Sandman is.

Heres a pic of Dark Horse version:

yeah that's the one.... i've read it about 12 times

it's just a story that makes the shadow almost omniscient... in the marvel & DC versions, he's like a crimefighter secret agent superhero guy & in the DH version, he's like all knowing & unstoppable....

I wish he has a comic today. . .

i know... i mean he is a character that could have a title for years to come & EVERY STORY COULD BE DIFFERENT

the shadow comicbook could be mystery, horror, sci-fi, adventure ETC.

Well, if or when Sam Raimi makes his movie, I'm confident someone will at least make a movie comic. But, with any luck, this will get the ball rollin' for other media. Like a new comic series all together.

Sorry. Double Post.

Is it confirmed that Raimi will make a Shadow movie.
