I don't think anybody's posted anything about this yet....but if you're into power metal, you should check out Iced Earth's Spawn-inspired concept album The Dark Saga. You've got tracks on there like "Violate", "I Died For You" (beautifully melodic), "The Hunter" (referring to Angela, the heavenly bounty hunter sent to kill Spawn in the comics), and "A Question of Heaven", which has to be one of the best epic metal ballads I've ever heard. In general, the subject of Spawn is perfect for this kind of music because of his Satanic origins, the constant presence of demons, descents into the "Depths of Hell" (another album track).
Although I haven't heard the soundtrack album for the movie, I can still assure you this is a better work due to its conceptual and thematic unity, as well as the awesome riffs, pulverizing drumwork, and Matt Barlow's vocals. For those of you who haven't heard them, Iced Earth are really a sick band - about halfway between Iron Maiden and Metallica musically speaking. I only got into them after they had Ripper Owens on vocals (Judas Priest replacement guy), but I recently downloaded a bunch of stuff from their so-called "classic" lineup with Barlow, and I've been really impressed by this album.
Truth be told, I hadn't really thought much about Spawn at all before I heard this album. I mean, I knew about all the toys and stuff as a kid, but I was just never really that into the character. This might change now...I'm downloading a bunch of stuff from the HBO animated series, which is supposed to be amazing. If it's on HBO, at least it'll have the appropriate amount of brutal violence and darkness that suits Spawn so well. Part of the movie was on TV a while ago, and I watched a few minutes of it, but some parts looked so cheesy and bad (bad computer graphics, Martin Sheen mostly to blame, although the acting I saw from Michael Jai White looked pretty stilted) that I didn't end up watching it, aside from flipping over every now and then.
