There are other threads for this, but this is where you talk about all aspects of it. Feel free to post news, videos, photos, and etc. when they are available. I'm anxious to see how this turns out. The outcome could be really good, or really bad.

^^ Cool site! As I've said, I'm actually pretty excited for this. Hopefully, it's good.

i'm interested to see how they pull off the costumes, GG's would still be the hardest. though part of me seeing spidey or Osborne sing will be very strange

I live in Europe. Will this come out on DVD?

Looks like it might not be opening after all.

Rumors have been going around the last few weeks that the show is way over the production budget ($40 million so far, which is an insane amount of money for a Broadway musical) and they're having trouble finding backers, since it will be almost impossible for it recoup.

The article claims they're still on schedule to open...but from what I've been hearing, it's not looking good.

hm I'm really hoping this will work, I'd be willing to give it a shot

45 million!?!?

Just for the sake of comparison, how much did The Lion King cost?

Random yet related. I was watching Simpsons today on hulu.com and I caught sight of this in the intro.

Bono and The Edge have described their forthcoming Spider-Man musical as "dizzy" and "not a straight take on the myth".

Turn Off The Dark, the production the Dublin band has written music and lyrics for, is set to open on Broadway in New York in 2010.

They also confirmed American actress Evan Rachel Wood would play the part of MJ and revealed more about the other characters.

Speaking to Radio 1's Edith Bowman, Bono said: "We've got a new villain, it's a girl. It's a very extraordinary role. We've taken it to a much more dizzy place than you'd expect. We've got big tunes. We're very proud of it."
More details

Bono explained the characters won't be the same which appeared in comic or the film adaptations of the original Marvel comic series.

"Our Peter Parker is much more…not Kurt Cobain, but a kind of slacker, a more kind of shy sort of guy," said Bono. "It touches on opera, it touches on rock 'n' roll. There are some real character driven songs as well, very unusual song types for us," explained guitarist The Edge.
Not musical fans

The guitarist was keen not to describe the production, directed by Julie Taymor, as a musical, but rather an "opera".

"It is a new challenge. The thing is we don't really like musicals. Most musicals are really pants. They're really not very cool," said The Edge.

"It is much more like opera than a straight musical. We're actually not calling it a musical for that reason because we don't want to put people off.

"We just thought, 'Well if we're going to do this we should do something that knocks it out of the park and hits on every level with great tunes'."

Evan Rachel Wood, previously star of films like Thirteen and The Wrestler, will play the role of MJ.

"She's the greatest actor of her generation, she's the one to watch," said Bono. "She happens to sing like a bird, it's like a true voice.

"She's a very pure spirit and a very bright mind and she brings the part of MJ to life really." Despite their involvement in the writing the band said they will not appear themselves.

"We made one rule for ourselves though that we would never have Spider-Man singing. A guy singing in tights can't happen," joked The Edge.

U2, who recently performed two nights at London's Wembley Stadium, are currently touring the UK with their 360° tour.

Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark resumed rehearsals two days ago!

I couldn't find the official thread on this (if it's still around :o ), but anyway, here's a song performed from the musical. The 27-year-old Carney frontman performed “Boy Falling From The Sky” from U2 and Julie Taymor’s musical, which hits Broadway in previews beginning November 14.

Yea they could have done ALOT better for GG.But I'm still interested in how this will turn out.

I'm sorry to bump this, but I ran into some news that confuses me...

In an interview with MTV news, the director of the new Spider-Man Broadway Musical, Turn Off the Dark, confirms that Carnage (as well as the Sinister Six) will be featured in the show. Director Julie Taymor says:

"In writing with Glen Berger, the playwright, we've tried to craft something that's a little different than what you're used to," she added. "Our Doctor Osborn is more of a conglomerate of Doc Ock [and] of Osborn — he's not a businessman."
"He's a real scientist, who's a real southerner — he believes he's going to help combat the world as it is, environmental disasters," she continued. "He believes that he has to prepare people, so he's creating through DNA transfers and this and that, the ability for humans to protect themselves when the tides rise and global warming. It's very current. It's very very now, even though we do blend periods."
Taymor went on to explain how Green Goblin (played by Patrick Page) and other members of Spidey's rogues gallery play a major role in the second act. And that is where things get... interesting... for fans of Spidey's comic book and movie history.
"When he turns into Goblin, it's a very different Goblin," she said. "Then we have this thing in Act Two, where Spider-Man's powers keep rising and rising and you meet what we call 'The Sinister Six/Seven.' We have Kraven, Carnage, Lizard, a new one we've created, Swiss Miss."
