The Official Stupid Question Thread: Marvel Edition - Part 1

Well, to be fair, just because you're powerful doesn't mean you wont get your ass kicked by super powered 5 year olds. :o

I don't understand Secret Avengers, I mean they are all Avengers, non of the missions have really been super secret. Whats the point?
They were supposed to be operating under the radar. Like, their first mission was on Mars. Who pays attention to Mars, right? But then they ruined it with their second mission, which was about ninjas. The New Avengers have been dealing with ninjas for like every other arc, so clearly ninjas are a big, above-the-radar sort of deal now. Secrecy fail. :o

So I'm reading this article about Franklin Richards over at Comic Vine and it talking about how he might be the most powerful mutant in the 616. Some X-Men fans were saying that some mutant they called "MJJ" was the most powerful.

I hate this WoW / Texting world of acronyms. Who the heck are they talking about?

:ff: :ff: :ff:
Well there's Phoenix and Scarlet Witch, who not only have the power but have the skill and experience on their side

Well, Phoenix, but that's mostly because she's possessed by some primordial force of the universe.

Whenever Wanda's power levels get that high she tends to be nucking futs at the time.

So besides the run of Greg Pak what are some other really good trades for ol' Hercules?

His first appearance in the first Thor Annual was pretty fun. I think that's collected in one of the Essential Thor trades. He plays a big role in Thor's fight with Thanos that Dan Jurgens wrote, too; that's in Thor by Dan Jurgens and John Romita, Jr. vol. 4. He was with Thor and Beta Ray Bill when they first ran across Desak, who was a cool villain. And there was a Hulk/Hercules one-shot or mini-series or something that wasn't too bad. Not sure if those last two are collected anywhere, though.

Arguably, those two but it doesn't answer the question who "MJJ" is. Does Hope or any of the "New Breed" have those initials?

:ff: :ff: :ff:

Ohhhhh, that guy.

Didn't he get killed by the Fury though?

I don't know, his story always seemed like a continuity nightmare to me, with all the reality warps, deaths and resurrections and alternate reality versions.

I have read his Captain Britain but it seems like ages ago. Most of my Britain knowledge comes from Xcalibur.

:ff: :ff: :ff:

The Jaspers that got killed was an alternate reality version. The 616 version is supposed to be more powerful still. He might be a whole one-billionth of the power of Franklin.

What's Marvel's reasoning for wanting to name their main Earth as Earth-616? Just seems like an odd number I imagine it could have some meaning.

Was just a number referred to in a Captain Britain comic. Tinfoil hat people think it means the year and month the FF started.

:ff: :ff: :ff:

If it was the date the Fan4 started, wouldn't it be 6111? Also, who the hell puts the year before the month? That's crazy. Those people are crazy.

i think it was a random number a writer (i wanna say Alan Moore) used in a story dealing with alternate realities and it just stuck. something obscure like that.

Yeah. It was Moore. And it prolly was random. As far as the date thing. I think it has to do with the whacky way that comics are never what the date on the cover says.

Despite the cover saying November, I think it came out in June that year. Yeah. I'm not sure.

:ff: :ff: :ff:

I prefer to think it's just a random number.

There to show that that particular Earth is not so special in the grand scheme of things.

Not all Pretentious like DC with their Earth 1 boos**t. :o

For real. Marvel rolls like Galileo. It knows its main universe ain't s*** in the grand cosmic scheme of things.

They don't even keep with one particular system either. It's earth 1, then Earth 2, and Earth Prime, and Earth B, and Earth Upside down Simile face. (That Earth is turly horrible. It consists of nothing but a fat dude in a lazy boy reading Ziggy Cartoons and laughing hysterically.) :o

But they would still give a title on Earth Upside Down Smilie Face 6 months before they cancel it, while letting good titles suffer needlessly.
