The Official Stupid Question Thread: Marvel Edition - Part 1

THanks guys for the Thor answer but I guess my question is this: strength is one thing, powers are another. I thought Asgardians as a whole could at least lift 20 tons, so even without Mjolnir, shouldn't he at least be stronger than them and not just be a normal man? Or is everything in Asgardian magically based?

Yea all Asgardians are at least class 10s, despite what Bendis portrayed in Siege. Maybe Thor is in the movie. Maybe that differs from the comics. Can't tell yet.

Asgardian males average about 30 tons, females about 25. Even their pre-adolescents would be class 10. Plus substantially superhuman reflexes. Even Volstagg was fast enough to effortlessly humiliate Wolverine. If he's not just walking through the guys then he has been transformed into a mortal.

So, the Punisher comics of the 90's: Punisher, War Zone, War Journal, Armory.

Could you read these individually or did one effect the other? I only have a small portion of the final issues (3 issues of the Countdown crossover and them some of the Doubled Edge tie-in issues after they all ended) but I remember reading an issue here and there prior to all that when I was a kid and liking them. I particularly remmeber an issue with a brown cover like a paper bag with Frank's face on it. Thing is, I'm curious about going back and maybe checking some of these out if I can find them cheap but I don't want to buy all those titles and issues. All the issues I can think of were in the main Punisher title... so can I get a complete read just reading Punisher from around issue 50 through it's end? Just curious.

All Asgardians are incredibly strong. The handbooks of old used to define an average Asgardian male as class 30 and an average Asgardian female as class 25, but that's obviously not hard and fast. Most of the named Asgardians can lift well beyond 30 tons. Volstagg's way up there, probably not too far off from Thor himself. Valkyrie is well above class 25 too.

But in the movie when Thor is fighting SHIELD agents, he's technically not an Asgardian anymore. Odin effectively made him human and cast him down to Earth. He's a normal dude. Who happens to be like 6'6", built like a tank, and highly skilled in every form of combat Asgard's ever seen.

Volstagg was Class 70 in his prime but now well into middle age he is supposedly at about the 45 ton level. He weighs a lot more than other Asgardians though and knows how to capitalize on it. Valkyrie is said to be at the same 45 ton level. Volstagg seems to be the strongest pure Asgardian outside the royal family. Skurge was a bit stronger at class 75 but he was half Storm Giant.

Screw Thor, Volstagg, and Skurge!!!! I want my Punisher question answered!

Well, it's a question too stupid to bother answering. :o It's like any other character or team with multiple books. Unless there's a crossover, it's fairly self contained.

"Official Stupid Question Thread"

It fits right in here!

And during that time period we had Amazing Spider-Man, Web of Spider-Man, Spider-Man, and Spectacular Spider-Man crossing over with one plot for several years. We also had X-Men and Uncanny X-Men at the time crossing over issue after issue influencing each other. The same with Ghost RIder and Spirits of Vengeance. Punisher was at the same level of popularity at the time so there's a good chance it was written the same way as those listed above.

Therefor... not a dumb question!!!!

Eat that Nubby!!! :p

Then, using the powers of deductive reasoning, it's likely that that is what went down with the Punisher books. So, still a dumb question. :o

But why merely rely on deductive reasoning when other titles, such as Fantastic Four and Fantastic Force, DID work independantly? It's better to KNOW... and thus, I asked the question for anyonw who might know.

Legit question.

Legitimately stupid question because, after all, it's a question about the Punisher.

Check and Mate. :o

You are wrong, my friend. It is a question about Punisher's comicbooks... not the Punisher himself... those are two different things.

Nope. If anything, it's worse because you are actively looking for Punisher books. From the 90's no doubt. The time When Frank became an Angel, and a Black guy for some reason. Everybody knows that anything pre-Ennis is butt wipe.

Eh you can take your Ennis and stick it where the sun don't shine.

(Not that there's anything wrong with that.)

My old Marvel RPG said that Valkyrie was 50 tonner and Heimdall was a 75 tonner. So I'd guess that he was the strongest outside of the Royal Family.

:thor: :thor: :thor:

Trying to measure strength class is a fools errand. A character is as strong as they need to be for whatever the writer has them doing. Like DD flipping over a limo, and Hulk being choked out by a snake.

I sorta agree. I always found it funny that a team with Namor, Hercules, Wonder Man, and Doc Sampson got sent to handle the Hulk while The Thing usually does that himself just as efficiently.

:thing: :thing: :thing:

Does anyone seriously like Carlie Cooper? The blandness incarnate that is her character is mind boggling...

Better question...even if Slott actually did craft a great character out of her, will the haters still be hatin'?
