Where did you leave off? As in, what was going on when you last was into comics? We can start from there.
This will be my first time actually subscribing to anything. I normally just get whatever I can find in the local library and occasional issues from the local comic shop.

Oh, well.

I guess you could grab pick up Spider-Man. They did this thing a couple of years ago that pretty much sets it up as a perfect jumping on point for newbies.

Hulk is supposed to do a new status quo change soon if they haven't done so already.

So, I'd start off with some trades.

Planet Hulk. Best Hulk Story I've ever read. Everything else with Hulk is a mixed bag at best. Red Hulk. Ugh. :whatever:

Spider-Man. With Spider-Man you got Brand New day vol 1-3. Kraven's First Hunt, umm 24/7 and American Son, The Gauntlet and Big Time I guess. I can't tell you the quality of these because Spider-Man is dead to me. So These are the ones I've heard are good or whatever.

As far as Avengers. "Avengers Academy" is probably the best one. Spidey's on the "New Avengers" team.

Spidey is also a member of the FF and that is very good. Also Captain America, the Thor Related titles are good. But the main Thor Title Mighty Thor I think is hit or miss. Everything else is awesome. Daredevil is supposed to be getting a relaunch with Mark Waid on writing duties. That's all I got.

Right now they're doing this "Fear Itself" Event. (That's pretty much what superhero comics have become. Event, fallowed by that events fall out for a year, then another event.) Where Red Skulls daughter got powers from some old Asgardian God or something and now she's killin' everybody up in here and giving bad guys and good guys hammers that make them bad or more bad or whatever. Mixed reviews on that.

So was the New X-men really not doing that well in sales at the time of House of M, Decimation and Civil War that it had to get replaced? I'm pretty new to comics, but a friend was letting me read his House of M and Decimation, Just started Civil War, but I was really enjoying the New X-men so I was wondering how the new series that took over is? Also dumb question, but New Mutants is what essentially replaced it right?

Oh no. New X-men was cancelled and relauched as Young X-men. New X-men ended bc the X-men disbanded at the end of Messiah Complex. Young X-men saw some of the former younger mutants from that book reunite and be mentored by Sunspot and Moonstar. That series wasnt nearly as good and it was cancelled about a year later. New Mutants launched soon after but aside from having Moonstar and Sunspot, has nothing to do with either of the previous 2 series.

Wow that was quick. Thanks. That kind of sucks though. I was enjoying New X-men over, well over the Decimation story of Uncanny X-men, but that was just an attack on Rachel's family so that didn't interest me all that much

Yeah it was unfortunate bc I loved it too. I do have to make one clarification. I said NM had nothing to do with New X-men, but the Magik plotline from New X-men became a central plot in NM. She was brought back in NX and we found out why and what her mission was in NM. Pixie also plays a role in that later on.

What, if anything, did Cable ever do to try to rid himself of that pesky techno-virus that was holding his powers back?

He got rid of it a couple of times only to get it back one way or another.

With Cable, the virus just keeps coming back like a cancer. Charles, on the other hand, is just insanely accident prone.

Something I've not quite got over the years... When Donald Blake hits his walking stick against the ground and it becomes Mjolner, does Blake become Thor, or do they just swap places? And if they do swap places, where does Blake go while Thor's in charge? Thanks in advance for any answers.:yay:

Blake becomes Thor. They're the same person, just two different forms. The Blake personality didn't really "go" anywhere for a long time, but most recently, they've shown Blake hanging out as a second voice inside Thor's head; he sees through Thor's eyes and can communicate with Thor. Less so now that J. Michael Straczynski is no longer writing Thor's comic, though.

I saw that the newest FF book has Blackbolt on the cover and I skimmed through and looks like they explain how Blackbolt comes back since his fate in War of Kings and all.

My question is that if I get that book, and the next because looks like will feature more Blackbolt...should I pick up any issues previous to the one that came out this week?

You shoulda been reading FF and Fantastic Four to begin with. Cuz it's awesome.

My only interest was because I saw Blackbolt on the cover. If the previous issues don't matter to reading the Blackbolt issues I don't want them. So do I NEED the previous issues?

Ok, cool. Thanks for letting me know.

You need every issue starting from the beginning of Hickman's run of Fantastic Four. :o

charactorophile

Now I can't tell if you are being serious I have heard great things about the latest FF stuff--really I have--but my sole interest is in the Inhumans stuff. My disposable income is not what it used to be at the moment. :csad:

Just being a dick. :o

There's no build up. Not really. All you need to know is that some Inhumans that got left behind on the Moon when BB and the Royals went to Kreelar are about to get caught up in a war with a bunch of other bottom dweller societies of the MCU. You can just buy that one issue.

"Bottom dweller societies" sounds so racist, even though that actually is what they are. :csad:

Yeah, I meant it both ways. An Insult wrapped in the truth. You take those opportunities when they come.

Couple more Stupid questions. I'm slowly working on Civil War and I was wondering what the big ones to read are. I honestly don't want to read all 200ish comics for one arc (if you count civil war and initiative). Also if this is in the wrong thread for this I'm sorry.

Now back to where people mentioned Cable having something that was holding his power back and he gets rid of it and comes back, does Cyclops ever get his eyes back at all?

Finally last questions, I'm not sure when Jean Grey last died and I know I'm behind the times since I started with the House of M, but when/if she comes back are Scott and Emma breaking up? Or did Emma already leave the X-men (read that she joined some other team for a time, not sure when in timeline though and if it was permanent or something else). Also whats up with Jean always being in the cartoons? I just started watching X-men evolution (since netflix has it watch instantly) and its all Scott and Jean. Just not sure what to make of that in general. Feels difficult for the whole Emma thing to feel right, when Jean never seems to completely go and then with Hope...
Anyway I guess that little rant was my way of asking is Jean gonna come back and what is going to happen with Emma?

Technically she's already back. Came back in that warsong mini or whatever. She's just f**ked off to God knows where. I'm sure eventually some *****e bag writer will bring her back to the team. Trying to relive his youth by regressing the X-Men back to when he thought they were awesome. That's just one of those things with Superhero comics you gotta get used to.

As far as Jean being in the cartoons, well, they were together for 30 some odd years. When those cartoons came out, Emma wasn't even in the picture. So whenever they do a early days of the X-Men cartoon, it's gonna be Scott and Jean. If you want a cartoon where it's Emmott(to take a page from the tabloids when dealing with celeb couples.) there's Wolverine and the X-Men.

Also, yes Scott has gotten control over his eyes a couple of times. This is superhero comics 101. Character development is temporary at best. Most recent was Wheadon's Astonishing X-Men, which was awesome. Though he didn't have powers at all during that bit. Oddly enough, he was more badass than he's ever been with em.

As far as Civil War, well, I don't know what to tell you. You don't need all the tie ins to get what happened. But just about everything that wasn't the actual mini was awesome. Spider-Man, New Avengers, especially Iron Man. You don't NEED to have them, but some of them are just awesome freakin' comics. (Especially Iron Man Director of SHIELD by the Knaufs)

Wow another quick response. I'll keep those ones in mind while reading through Civil War. I would probably be more into it if I hadn't finished Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 a month or so ago.
