That reminds me All New X-Men is essentially the X-Men equivalent of The Crossing.

A founding X-Men/Avenger (Cyclops/Iron Man) is manipulated/out of control due to a powerful force (The Phoenix/Kang The Conqueror). The corrupted hero kills an ally so a team mate travels back in time to bring a younger version of the hero to the modern timeline to change events.

If regular Tony Stark has a mustache or goatee, would an evil alternate universe Tony Stark be clean shaven?

In Exiles #23, we do meet an evil alternate universe Tony, more akin to Dr. Doom there. As I recall, he starts off with just a big evil mustache, then after taking over the world he's become a jerk recluse and his beard has become much longer and more scraggly.

Regular Tony is the evil one because all Tony Starks have that, except for the teen version from Heroes Reborn AND WE ARE NOT TALKING ABOUT HIM!

To be clear, Teen Tony showed up just BEFORE Heroes Reborn, in The Crossing. Once HR began, Tony was back to his usual grown-up playboy self.
But again, we're not talking about him.

While I don't have the answer (a quick google search suggests that it's in TPB form, but not in one single TPB). But I have a related followup question:

Is it possible to read individual comic storylines that intersect with Civil War without needing to take a timeout and read all of Civil War? Right now, I'm reading Daredevil, who I suspect will be fine, but I'm also reading Ms. Marvel (Carol Danvers) who seems much more closely tied. Am I able to read just her books?

Hey everyone, just as a followup, I've decided I'm going to read:

Civil War
Civil War: Front Line
The Amazing Spider-Man
Ms. Marvel (simply because it was the story I was reading when I got sucked into Civil War)

Any others that are probably important and/or essential? I'll read Captain American and Iron Man if I have the energy, but that's promising a lot because this is a freakin' sprawling crossover.

What Marvel Now comics / Avengers titles feature Dr Strange and what modern runs can you recommend someone to start reading if they are in particular interested in Dr Strange?

Dr Stranges is appearing in the New Avengers. The book focuses on the Illuminati as they deal with "Incursions".

If your looking for the best Doctor Strange stories I wouldn't recommend looking in Avengers books personally.

Doctor Strange: The Oath by Brian K. Vaughan which was published in 2007 and you can collect is trade is one of the most popular recent Doctor Strange comics. was an exploration of Strange as a man, as a wizard, and as a physician. The story saw Stephen Strange desperately seeking a cure for his most trusted confidant Wong’s brain cancer

Doctor Strange & Doctor Doom: Triumph and Torment Graphic Novel is well liked by Doctor Strange and Doctor Doom fans. The story shows just how compassionate Strange could be as he helps Dr. Doom try and rescue the despot of Latveria’s mother from the fires of Hell.

Doctor Strange #55 "To Have Loved and Lost” is considered by many fans the best solo Doctor strange issue and is a superhero take on It’s A Wonderful Life.

Doctor Strange, Master of the Mystic Arts #1-2, 4-5 "The Silver Dagger”. Strange get's stabbed by a former Cardinal turned religious zealot and sorcerer

The Oath is one that's recommended a lot, so I think that's a good suggestion - particularly something a little more modern and a little less trippy. Here is a good breakdown of Dr. Strange through the ages, though, if it helps.

BTW, to answer my question earlier about what tie-ins are helpful for Civil War, I've decided to add Fantastic Four and Thunderbolts to my list. Thunderbolts seems like it has an important plot point, but I'm not sure if it'll pay off since I don't think they like to introduce anything important in the tie-ins. Fantastic Four actually seems up there with Amazing Spider-Man as the most important tie-in. That means JMS might have as much influence as Mark Millar in writing this thing. Since he's got a clear viewpoint on who's right, it makes the whole thing a little more biased than it should be. I'm glad I read the Iron Man tie in simply because it allows him to fairly speak his own view. Weirdly enough, Captain America seems completely irrelevant to this.

ETA: And, after much grumbling, I've added She-Hulk, Wolverine, and Black Panther. She-Hulk and Wolverine don't tie to the main event so much, but they do tie to Front Line. Wolverine is a pretty good story as well (She-hulk was OK). Don't know anything about Black Panther yet because I haven't gotten to it. I was trying to save time and focus on the essentials, but that appears long gone. Oh well, this story doesn't have a reputation for being a sprawling mess for nothing so I might as well go with the flow.

So I took a stab at reading Secret Invasion without asking for help. There aren't any good lists and I didn't have the energy to read everything. But it seems to me that I probably missed out a good deal of the buildup. Does anyone think that all the Avengers stories (New Avengers, Mighty Avengers, Avengers Initiative) are all important to the overall story? It seems Secret Invasion builds from a couple of prelude issues with a Elektra Skrull among other things. Are those stories worth reading during the battle itself as well?

Yeah, the Captain America Civil War tie-in has almost nothing to do with Civil War. It's pretty much setting up the series to go forward with Bucky as the main character into the Death of Captain America arc. But, if I remember correctly, it was a pretty solid read if you are reading Captain America pre or post Civil War.

I'd say the most crucial build-up for Secret Invasion occurs in New Avengers and The Illuminati.

Well, it has one plot point I won't spoil related to Captain America 25, which is really the coda to Civil War. Given that, I thought it was worth it, but just barely.

wow thats a good question. Dont think I ever considered that. I would say yes bc a telekinetic needs something tangible to affect and she isnt tangible while phasing

About the Time Infinity Gem in the Marvel Universe; before it vanished (I heard it vanished after a certain event), did it have the ability to affect events or probability in any way?

From what I got about the gems they have/had the ability to completely master whatever it was they were about, it was just the users level of competence with them that mattered. The Time Gem should allow you to do whatever you wanted with time as time was shown to be malleable, you could travel to any point/send others to any point, see the future/past along with any potential things that could happen.
