I've found some of the Elfman scores you listed kind of forgettable. Elfman is talented, but isn't as memorable as he once was, IMO.

Elfman had two really good scores come out last year: The Wolfman (even though it was chopped to bits in the film) and Alice in Wonderland. Listen to those and tell me those aren't good. But Elfman could use a break from comic-book movies too.

I've listened to them. I didn't say they weren't good, just not as memorable as some of his earlier work.

The Wolfman had an awesome score, but I thought Alice in Wonderland, main theme aside, was on the forgettable side. I think Elfman is great at main themes these days, but the scores that surround those themes are so forgettable. Terminator Salvation is a perfect example. The opening credits theme was absolutely sublime. I remember getting chills when I first saw it. The rest, and I mean literally, the rest of that score was completely forgettable.

The rumors keep flying...

Now IMDB says "Original Music By Bear McCreary."

Someone needs to come out and confirm who's actually scoring this movie. But McCreary would be an awesome choice...

That's one rumor I hope to turn out true (though it's probably not), his work for Battlestar Galactica was excellent.

I should go to McCreary's youtube page and ask if there's any truth to it.

I apologize about the ear comment. Although I meant no offense by what I said. I wish you the best with your film music career. You seem to have a real talent for it. And really know your stuff. Very impressive.

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree. Or however that goes. I have nothing against you liking synth/electronic scores. Besides you seem to have an interest in synthesisers and sound design, which is cool. I can see why you'd be defensive of synth scores. Like I said before I have a few synth driven scores on cd myself. And have no problem with them. They serve their purpose in some films. I'm just tired of the Zimmer/MV/RC synth scores that I hear in most action movies these days. And don't think MOS should take that approach in scoring. That's all.

I'm sorry to come off as a jerk. I just get tired of people mentioning Zimmer and MV/RC composers when they're practically scoring every action movie now and days. Sure it's their opinion but, there are plenty of other film composers out there who are just as capable, imo. I would also like MOS to have it's own voice and not mimic somebody elses. A score that seperates it from other movies/comic book movies. Something I believe BB/TDK failed to do, imho.

Take care.
I forgot all about this post I made. Boy was I livid. Good for you for taking a step back, taking a breathe, and not being over the top. I will happily agree to disagree with you. Hooray diversity.

If one could wish freely, I'd wish for James Horner.
Careful someone might get mad and threaten to kill Horner if he reuses themes from his previous scores. Evidence at the ASM forums. Besides he's got the ASM franchise now.

Just bring Ottman back.

Ottman hater? No.

SR hater? Hate is a strong word, but I do dislike it.

I love John Ottman

He writes awesome music

I don't need him doing another superhero score though. I want someone fresh.

Don't care. If David Arnold is allowed to score different Bond franchises (as did Barry) So can Ottman for Supes. He can write something fresh for this franchise.

The soundtrack should have A Real Hero (feat. Electric Youth) by College

:P

I really liked Ottman's score. Dare I say that I actually prefer his version of Williams' theme over the original. It may just be the production value, but Ottman's sounds so much fuller.

I say 3 Doors Down should do it. :cwink::oldrazz:

What about Howard Shore? He's quality.

I don't know. Working with Snyder seems beneath Shore, imo. But he did work with Kevin Smith (Dogma) before. And scored the Twilight movie that came out last year. So I don't know. Nolan as producer would probably be the only reason he'll do it. If offered.

Personally he'd have been better as the composer to Nolan's Batman films. Shore has scored many pyschological thrillers and crime dramas. He'd have written something very interesting and unique from the previous Batman and comic book films that have been out. Instead of the MV/RC rubbish the Nolan Batman films ended up with. There's always that rumored Batman reboot.

BTW, Shore won't be able to score MOS anyway. He'll be too busy scoring both Hobbit films back to back.

LOL.

Check out what bear had to say on facebook about this.

''Thanks for the enthusiasm, IMDb, but I'm not scoring "Man Of Steel." Sorry, that's just a rumor. For the record, though, I'd kick ass on it.''
