The Official Superman Score & Soundtrack Thread - Part 2

Many people associate this score, as also been used in Superman Returns, as the Superman sound. For Man of Steel to have something that's as recognisable as well, that could pose a bit of a dilemma, or problem if you would. They want something completely new, a new story, but they may also want something, music-wise in this particular case, that's as recognisable as the score from the Reeve movies.

You are free to disagree with me, but I think it will be hard to think of music that captures the people as the seventies score.

That’s the thing. No new score (no matter how brilliant) is going to have the resonance of the Williams music. By definition, something brand new can’t be as familiarly comforting as something that’s been around for 35 years. If that’s the standard the MOS score has to meet, it will fail. Best to judge it on its own terms and compare it to analogous films/scores – not, specifically, STM/Williams.

But that's probably not going to happen. It's in people's nature to grab back to something that already was great. They will compare to the well-known score, and they will critique it and many will not like it. I safely dare to say it.

But hey, I'm for new, though I think the 'old' score is solid, powerful and timeless. That's why it still works. I hope, for the composer(s) sake mostly, they will make something incredible. I firmly believe that next to all the visual components and acting, music is what gives a film soul... I hope Man of Steel can get it right.

I really hope we hear something about the score soon

I dont think there's a specific time for it. It's usually rather late in the process though. We might not even hear anything this year. :csad:

That's not to say they havent found the guy. Maybe they hired someone once they started getting shots in the can.

Dunno if he was rumored, but he's sort of Snyder's court composer, so naturally he's being linked to it. I could live with him as well.

I would think so, but Snyder's working with a different main crew than usual, so I dunno.

I think Music is such an important factor for a movie. Story and characters are great, but music (and sometimes the lack of music) is what carries the audience along for the ride.

Totally agree. Williams proved that for the Donner-era. Plain and simple.

So would Henry Jackman and David Hirschfelder.

Thanks guys kinda figured that would be the case.....I guess sometimes the announcement comes out of no where. I wonder if they'll put it in the trailer or teaser

I was wondering when they usually announce the composer......anyone know?

Sometimes, they're announced a few months prior to the film's completion. Most of the time, they're brought in during post-production.

Tyler Bates was rumoured a few years ago, wasn't he?

He is. The thing is, if Bates was going to score this film -- he would've been signed on and working on it now. It's likely to be someone else.

I would think so, but Snyder's working with a different main crew than usual, so I dunno.

Chances are, it'll be someone new. Someone visited the set in Illinois last year, and gave a hint of the interview they did with Snyder. Snyder has said that Zimmer is one of the composers in his list to score MOS -- so it'll probably be Zimmer, one of his friends from RC/MV (Henry Jackman, Atli Orvarrson, Nick Glennie-Smith), or someone that used to work with Zimmer (Harry Gregson-Williams, John Powell).

A John Powell score for MOS would definitely rock.

J'agreed. Though I have liked the Gregson-Williams stuff I've heard (which, granted, isn't much), my instincts would sooner have me choose Powell. I think it was when I heard his score for "How to Train Your Dragon" that I thought, this guy could provide a really rousing, heroic score for Superman.

HGW would be a great composer.

His theme for MGS2 is one the best pieces of music I've ever heard. It definitely fits the tone of Superman.

How about Chris Brown for Music Composer

Please... that Chris Brown joke isn't even funny.

:whatever:

I say we turn this into a Broadway Musical with Alan Menken doing the score! :argh:
