i just wanna brag that over the weekend i held a copy of the original action comics #1, vol. 1, first print. it was CGC graded a 6. there are only five known copies in the world that are graded above a 4. i held one. in my hands.

it was awesome.
You didn't break into Nick Cage's house again, did you?

Let the poor man have his comic book.

anybody know what Superman #1 isn't getting a Variant cover? kinda strange?

especially since it's kinda the secondary Superman title, after Action.

srsly not looking forward to superman #1 at all. that preview sucked

Superman 1 was decent. The villain was meh, but they did a job at making everything feel new.

Me too, I enjoyed it, it was fun. I like the stuff in the beginning with the Daily Planet's history.

I love the direction they're going with the Planet. Addressing the current state of news in the new/social media landscape and the slow death of print is something I felt was needed. I will say, though, I think they may have over done it. After about 3/4 of the issue, I was saying "We get it. Stop shoving the idea down our throats."

I think that speech that Morgan Edge had also was a comment on the relaunch.

Old uncle George. Tryin' to soften the blow by having the bad guy give a speech that amounts to, get over it. :o

Morrison: Superman is a man of Action!
- 6 Issue arcs, long term plan.
- #1 Introduced Action Comics' long term villain, it's a he. So it's likely Luthor, or was this to make us think it's Luthor? Who knows!
- #7 will show Superman at his limit, can he fly? How does he fly? All answered.
- 1st arc deals about Superman's change from an Outlaw to the 1st Hero and how someone who gets this bright idea of changing the world effects him.
- Since Superman becomes a big symbol, we'll see Clark Kent buy a bunch of Superman shirts for himself for crime fightning purposes! :p
- The second issue is very different, because Superman is confined to a chair for half of it so you have to do different things to get the feeling of "Action." And the third issue is different again, because Superman only appears in a few panels. It's mostly a Clark Kent story. So again, it's a different type of story.
- Clark's obviously a big part of it. We're showing a younger Clark, a bit more radical. He's a bit fierier. So it's a lot of fun spending time with him. He's very intelligent and smar
- Clark and Lois are sparring partners
- Superman will have romantic interludes with women, not just Lois Lane.
- Luthor's always going to be there in the texture of the book. He's not necessarily the main antagonist but I think he's always around as part of the cast. If the book was a TV show, you would want to see all of the characters every week. There is always a role for Luthor in there, but he's not necessarily the main villain. In fact, in a lot of instances, he's not the villain at all because he has an excuse for what he's doing. But underneath it all, he's still this envious, jealous, little man. That always stays the same.

I'm going with either Glenmorgan, General Lane, or the little man who was running from the scene at the start of the issue.

I.E. It needs to lose the f***ing seams. All of them, with maybe the exception of the Flash's, do. Manapul's struck on an interesting design choice by having the Flash's seams shoot lightning when he's running. The rest of them just look ugly. Wonder Woman's little seams that form stars on her torso look ugly. Superman's seams zigzagging all over his costume look ugly. Batman's... well, Batman's I guess I could take or leave, since every other medium he's in has him in a similarly seamed-up costume. But Green Lantern's seams that make it look like his classic costume spontaneously grew shoulder pads look ugly too. The seams are ugly. F*** seams, I say. F*** 'em.

How does alien armour even have seams

That **** is not logical :argh:

Exactly. I was thinking maybe Glenmorgan? The champion of the opressed vs. the man of corruption and bridery.

I hope it's Luthor. Morrison has a deep love for the mythology of these characters, so I doubt he's setting anyone else up as Superman's main, long-term villain. Superman's main villain is Lex Luthor, period. Whatever else you change about Superman, he:

1. is a survivor of a doomed alien race.
2. is raised by kind, loving human parents who instill the values that will eventually make him the world's greatest superhero.
3. is toward the upper end of the power scale.
4. has Lois Lane as his main love interest.
5. has Lex Luthor as his main villain.

Those are the constants for Superman to still be recognizable as Superman. Change those and you get Elseworld Supermen like Red Son.

And even then Lex was his main adversary....hell he was actually the good guy.

Yeah, most Elseworlds still retain the majority of those points. At most, they'll mix it up by changing one or two while keeping the rest the same so people can still recognize him as Superman(ish).

Oh wow i totally missed this, but Action Comics #6 will also feature Morrison's take on the early Justice League. OUTRAGEOUS!

Who's willing to bet that it'll be like a hundred times better than Johns' take? Any takers? ;)

so how was Superman #1?

is it worth picking up?

So did I. I think it's a good decision to have one book focusing on his development and growing maturity over the past few years of his life, and another book set in the present day to just have your regular Superman adventures with the character already fully developed. Conceptually, I think it's the best of both worlds.

The one thing I keep wondering about Superman #1 is they (the people) all seem shocked and happy that Superman is back. I am just wondering where he was all this time. Because they seem to imply that he was gone for a period of time.
