once perez is gone, so am i. These issues have been one big "i've seen this before" fest. Elemental creatures?? Invisible monsters?? And no past history on superman/ clark yet??

And clark does a horrible peter parker impression. There is no "optimism" in this version of the man of steel. He's just another hang-dog buzz kill kinda dude. Depressed, pissed off at "the man", no girl friend, geeeez.........and this is an improvement on superman??

I guess "perfecting" superman would mean killing him, right?? :woot:

I'm just hoping that this is a "new coke" type of ad campaign. They give us this crap to make us see that the old coke was better, after all!! Lol

yup!

I think this is the first issue of Superman I have liked of this new series and honestly it was because the pace finally picked up. I enjoyed this a lot and I hope it stays at this pace for the time being because it was awesome and I'm certainly more curious about the plot now than I was earlier.

I really liked #4. Hush, i think you're right: the pace did pick up quite a bit this issue. I think it was important to lay all the foundation they did in the previous issues though. #5 will be really exciting.
The ending reminds me of
the reveal in "For Tomorrow" with the Phantom Zone/Metropia
I'm wondering if we will see something similar.

I really liked the Lois and Perry interaction. Their new dynamic is really cool--very familial feel to it. I hope that they continue to tell stories from the past in Action Comics. I'd really like them to use Action to bridge the gap between the two story-lines. There is a ton of potential for excellent storytelling, plus we could get a bit of a clue as to what is in continuity!

The thing that struck me most about this issue was Superman's humanity. The new 52 initiative seemed to want to make him more alien. We have seen General Lane treat him like an alien, the Metropolis press talks about him that way, not to mention everything going on in Action's story-arc. Here, we saw
special emphasis on Superman visiting the Kent grave, and he referred to himself as "Clark" during his inner monologue. Maybe I just don't recall, but I can't think of a time we have seen such a human Superman since the end of the first issue.

Overall, I loved it. I'm liking Action quite a bit more so far, but this issue brought this story-arc up out of the "corny-bin" (freak o' the week! Early Smallville!)
Plus, it gave me hope that the new Superman thinks of himself as fully human as well as kryptonian. I like it best when Clark is closer to the "true face" of Superman, rather than Kal-El.

*First post!*

I like this issue and I like the fact that we are seeing hints that Lois has some feelings for Clark which is something I missed. The new outfit is starting to grow on me as well. It doesn't look that bad anymore to me but then again I thought it was ok from the start. I like the story they are telling here but I just wish we saw more of Lex but in this new world but I am guessing he is off limits till the first arc of Action is done. However I am interested to see how Zod is portrayed in this new world as well as Toy Man, Prankster and the other villains Superman has.

Action Comics #5 preview! Ah Andy Kubert, so pleasant to see you with Morrison again. :) Kneel before Zod! For some weird reason the preview is in Two parts, but it's interesting that Morrison does seem to infact take the "Superman Animated Series" Brainiac origin that he mentioned in All Star Superman, or it's a mix of continuity here now. Interesting to say the least. :)

Well, looks like people can quit crying about Krypto being wiped out of continuity. If that preview doesn't scream, "He'll be back!" I don't know what will.

Krypto is the white ghost watching over young Clark. Gotta remember that.

I need to stop buying this book for a month so I can get the discounted price, but...it's so damn good I haven't been able to wait.

Of course he's not alone. I feel like whenever he's release Zod and co. are going to be close behind. So expect Krypto's return whenever Man of Steel is release.

It might be before then that it happens in the comic books

And Krypto shall deliver swift puppy justice to Zod and his villainous allies with his paws of steel :awesome:

True, movie tie-ins seem more of a Marvel thing. When Dark Knight was release Batman was high, running around in a rainbow suit, and fighting space gods.

LOL

I am liking this new origin. And to think had Krypto not have broken the projector his parents might still be alive. Really I kind of wish they didn't do this 5 year jump and just had done a compete series from the ground up like Man of Steel did where we just say them rebuild everything not just the origin. But then again I am a person who thinks this all could have been avoided if they had just let Superman: Earth One take over the regular titles. I thought it was a great story and a great jumping point for an ongoing monthly series.

I would've agreed with you before I actually saw the first couple issues of the relaunch. Unfortunately for Earth One, the DCNU origin storytelling has absolutely manhandled earth one. If we could get Shane Davis to do the art for Action Comics, now that'd be something...

Um so if Kal-Els ship was just a prototype...what about Karas ship? And I am still surprised that DC has yet to do a mini Krypton series. Easy way to get back story on the Els lives right before their deaths/Karas departure and everyone else on Krypton.

I agree both arc's are very good. I personally would have like to see Earth One continue in a monthly format. I thought the story and art was fantastic and liked the little changes made to the suit. I still wish they stuck to their word and gave us to books a year instead of one.

Well Batman: Earth One is coming this year (2012 baby!), presumebly Superman will also come and then you got the unannounced Earth One volumes planned up.

I want to see Christian Bale dressed as the Batman of Zur En Arr :ninja:

You mean just for Superman and Batman or other characters? Because I haven't heard any plans for EO past the sequel to Superman EO.
