The Official Superman Thread - Part 3

I got used to it at this point. Don't even care anymore.

The costume's basically the only thing I don't like at this point. Action Comics has been great and I'm gonna try out Superman when Giffen and Jurgens start on it. Clark's new characterization as a poor man's Peter Parker is unnecessary in my opinion, but it's not really like anyone was doing anything worthwhile with the previous version of Clark anyway. Clark as Superman can kind of grate on my nerves a bit with his sanctimoniousness, but the core of the character is still intact and the "defender of the underdog" angle is good when he's not preaching or posturing.

Eh, there's something about Giffen and Jurgens' run that screams temporary to me. Giffen and Jurgens were the go to guys for Green Arrow to replace Krul and they were instantly replaced by Nocenti.

Hopefully Giffen and Jurgens will make Superman feel relevant. Right now the book feels like DC feels obliged that they have to have a Superman book set in the present day.

They probably are temporary. But it's still Giffen and Jurgens. Jurgens is like Mr. Superman if you read Superman comics in the '90s and Giffen can usually be counted on for fresh and interesting stories. Plus, Lord Helspont! :awesome:

Lord Helspont getting some love

Was hoping he'd show up as the Daemonite's have been popping up all over the DCU

In the newest issue of Superman we got the first look at the origin of the new suit, and it's white. I have to admit...I rather liked it. It appears much cleaner in white than in blue.

I'm probably way off on this, I don't follow Stormwatch and I don't know anything about it, but I got the impression that maybe that outpost would eventually end up being a new fortress.

Yep. We'll find out more in the upcoming Action Comics.

The superman books are pretty much over for me. Awful suit, non-engaging stories, Clark as a direct imitation of peter Parker. ... Even Jimmy Olsen is awful. i'm sure DC won't miss the $6 I would've spent on those books but why would I continue to pay for something i'm just not enjoying.

Look forward to you saying this again after issue 7! :yay:

I don't know, this time is waaayy better than the last time he said it. I don't think he can trump this one.:o

It's almost as if he thinks we actually care that he's going to drop the books.

im assuming this white suit was in the superman title, and not yet seen in action comics? i dropped superman, still pick up action. can someone post a pic of this suit?

It's in Superman #6. Superman has a flashback and realizes how the alien villain got to Earth, it stowed away on the "armor" suit when he first obtained it. A footnote says that the next issue of Action will tell more about the white suit, so apparently Action #7 is where Superman trades in the t shirt and jeans for the present day suit.

Cool, I'll just wait for AC #7, then. I'm curious to see what it looks like.

Wow, I never knew Superman was such a fashionista. That's quite a reaction to seeing some clothing.

Right. It's the shocking realization that he inadvertently brought them to Earth and that they've been hiding in his suit for like 5 years.
