The Official Superman Thread - Part 3

Suit sucks, and the only really good elements are old ones. Kents dead, Superman as the defender of the oppressed is a Golden Age element, Superman having a slightly distant and melancholy manner is from the Bronze Age, the new Krypton is a reskin of Silver Age Krypton...don't get me wrong, this is the closest to the real Superman in a regular series since DC destroyed the character in 1986, but they should have just brought back the real thing.

The real fix for Superman is Clark Kent wakes up in his apartment on Earth-One and realizes everything since 1985 or so has been a bad dream. That's the real fix for DC Comics period, actually. Fat chance of that happening, I know.

Regardless I do like the current series okay except the costume sucks. And Nicola Scott draws it better than anyone else, but she draws a lot of stuff better than other people.

That's because most of the old elements are still in the suit. The seams give the impression of a different kind of fabric I think, and as long as they're not overbearing, they're fine, and I'm actually used to the collar now. And I agree, Nicola Scott does draw it better than anyone, although I think Jesus Merino is pretty good too. Overall they make it look better than Jim Lee does.

I think Jim Lee is the only person who can draw his version of the suit. The seams go well with his shading style.

Other artists (rightfully) take a little freedom with how to interpret it, Scott makes it a fabric like material over armour.

February 29th...Superman's birthday.

Happy birthday to the Man of Steel.

Yep, that it is. Happy Birthday, Superman!

Wore a Superman shirt to work today by sheer coincidence.... wasn't even thinking of this!:woot:

Didn't know it was Superman's birthday. I'm... wearing a Batman shirt today. :csad:

actually, modern superman will probably just get depressed about it.

The Superman comic books are too gloomy right now :csad:

They need more Krypto

He gets his ugly costume and you find out why it is armor.

Jor-El: Kal, my son. I bequeath to you this uniform. Let it be a symbol of your Kryptonian heritage, so you shall never forget just how much your ancestors totally dug seams. I mean, check out the seams on this thing. Aren't they super-rad? God, I outdid myself on this thing's seams. It's just... wow. Oh yeah, sorry your mom and I are dead and you're all alone, too. Bye, kid!

That wacky Jor El and his love of seams

He could have spent his time making the escape ship big enough for him and Lara but fashion came first :o

Earth-2 Superman:

Superman-Earth-2.jpg

“Mourning the death of his beloved, Superman carries both a sadness in his heart along with the weight of Earth 2′s welfare upon on his shoulders, while never showing this and seeming to all that he is this world’s peerless champion,” said EARTH 2 writer James Robinson.

“What would you have to do to teach Superman to kill?” asks EARTH 2 editor Pat McCallum. “He’s endured the loss of his home world, and now the Last Son of Krypton must weather the death of his soul mate Lois Lane. Just how far can you bend the Man of Steel before he breaks?”

Just came back from Chronicle, which is pretty much about Superman being a teenager and having lived thru a horrible childhood. Good stuff!

Earth 2 sounds like its going to be an earth where all the heroes are killers :(

I'm not okay with Superman as a murderer
