So the new Action Comics was pretty damn good
Got to agree with you. I am going to miss GM when he is gone. On a side not I loved the Batman cameo it shows the start of their friendship.Who ever takes over Action better not start doing a bunch of recons.

Anyone else feel [blackout]Nyxlygsptlnz[/blackout] was a cop-out? Clark's "death" was a nice cliffhanger, the story afterward went at a good pace, and then...that happened.

I actually liked that twist because it alluded that Morrison is about to go all "theology meets sci-fi" Invisibles style with his presentation of the 5th dimension (I wonder if it's still "imagination") which is something I'd say is worth getting excited for.

Imps, magic, three wishes, and New Camelot. I love how Morrison treats Superman like a mythological figure. He just gets everything right about Superman. When he leaves everything going to probably be toned down back to standard affair. No more super reading or crazy stuff like that.

I really hope that when he brings back Krypto he brings him back for good

I miss Krypto :csad:

As exciting as it could be, it cut into something that was equally interesting- the loss of Superman's secret identity- with a deus ex machina solution. I can see it's not a random twist; the "Envious One" and Superman's stories have been entwined since issue #1. That doesn't make it any less unsatisfying.

Damn, that was a great read. Really, really don't want to see Morrison go. :(

This issue was the best of his run. In My Opinion.

The superman books blow. The comics update of the costume by Jim Lee is awful. They should've just adopted the new movie costume. The stories are weak at best. I can see what they were going for but they haven't had one coherently written issue yet of any of the superman books. Clark is just a peter Parker knock-off at this point. The plots are almost laughably bad.

This is a shame because most of the other books are vary improvements over what came before. I cite Aquaman as a prime example.

Well, you went 6 months.

People need to stop thinking Aquaman is a good book. It's getting ridiculous. :o

For some it's because in certain ways it's a better book than the last Aquaman book by Busiek and Williams (though not as interesting IMO). For others it's because it's the first time they gave Aquaman a shot so I guess they're surprised that he's not a lame duck like pop culture ignorance has always labeled him.

The book by Busiek wasn't even it's own book, though.

It's like saying Robin was a bad series because Adam Beechen had a 8 issue run on it.

It still makes up more than half of a 17 issue run on a book that was also the last major exposure to the character before Brightest Day.

The last issue of Action Comics kind of sucked. It was pretty much Morrison at his worst. Captain Comet seems like a cult member worshiping at the altar of his cloud-shaped alien masters rather than a fun cosmic hero. The story's a jumbled mess and Clark goes off-the-scale goofy toward the end. I've never been a fan of the idea that speed-reading medical books or construction books or whatever allows Clark or the Flashes to do pretty much anything. Also, while the idea of an evil imp is cool, "Vndktvx"? Really?

Oh well, one stumble so far in an otherwise solid run. Not too bad. I just hope Morrison remembers that he's supposed to be telling a story, not dumping every random idea he has for Superman onto the page.

Granted, everyone else seemed to enjoy this issue. If Morrison puts out a few more issues like this, I might just chalk it up to my not getting it and drop AC. He really seemed to be courting the crowd who loves the '50s-era wackiness with this issue, which I am very much not a part of, so maybe that's why.

I liked this issue because the plot just became easy to read for once.

Yes, he has. Like a lot.

Yeah, but if you've never read him before you can say stuff like that.

Johns' run is nothing better than good.

Really? I don't know about that.
This Aquaman fansite that I go to loves Aquaman's latest run, they have a weekly podcast and they'll break down the issue, almost every month, they're full of praises for Geoff Johns and Ivan Reis. http://www.aquamanshrine.com/
I kinda agree with them.

Additionally, my favourite comics review website Comicvine gave 8 issues out of the 11 issues 5/5 stars out.
2 remaining issues 4/5 stars and 1 issue 3/5 stars.
That averages to be about 4.6 stars per issue.
Other websites ranged from giving the issue around 6/10 - 10/10.
#1 - 9/10 http://comics.ign.com/articles/119/1197087p1.html
#1 - 10/10 http://www.newsarama.com/comics/best-shots-rapid-reviews-110929.html
And I saw several issues at newsarama rated 9/10.

Plus for 2 months it was top 10. So what I'm saying is that it is doing well critically, its a fan favourite and its doing well financially. I mean who thought Aquaman could be so badass. I loved BATB Aquaman, but this Aquaman is totally cool as well.

Many of us here who have read Aquaman comics for years for a start. Honestly this run just got the most publicity of any Aquaman volume since the early 90's thanks to the relaunch and that's why it's been a big seller and a draw for people like you who never read an Aquaman comic before. It is not the first time there's been a series with the character with both critical and fan acclaim before.

Hell there was another volume that had just that not even 7 years ago (were the Sub Diego arc Anubis mentioned happened). Of course it didn't even have half of the sales that the new volume has cause it didn't have a highly publicized relaunch marketing advantage like the new 52 has and too many people slept on it because they're ignorant about Aquaman. But it's not like Johns' volume is some type of game changer.
