I really don't mind if they bring the trunks back or not but it does need a better belt or something better to break up the mass of blue.

I'd say a V-shaped belt with two-tone blue on the main bodysuit--dark blue outside and light blue inside--would probably work best. Not using the same sky blue across the whole of the blue areas cuts down on how visually bland all that blue is, at least.

Not really. Even though the trunks are a bit silly in concept, they're necessary because it breaks up all that damn blue. Without them, Superman's costume looks boring. The fact that they added in a neck collar and even longer sleeves, thus giving him even more blue, makes the New 52 suit look even worse.
Absolutely; very well put.
Superman doesn't need to be hip, but making him modern does give him a bit of relevancy. Getting rid of the trunks does not make Superman modern, though. He has to be put in the proper situations, the right characterizations, the correct environment. Things that no costume redesign will do.
.....and again very well put.

Yeah it's not bad at all. The current design is so horrible I don't know where to start; so I'll just say off the top of my head Superman with body armor as a suit simply sucks pure and simple.

Man, I just want them to reveal what it is going to look like already. I imagine they are going to show us within the month because eventually they will release the February Solicits. So, unless they don't show it in any of those covers, we will see it then.

My mother use to say If its not broken don't fix it. Superman is the only one who can pull off having underwear over tights. I say give him back his classic look cause I sure do miss it.

Agreed, I'd love if DC bought back the classic look for the big guy. But I also know it's highly unlikely to happen.

Superman's new look is more of a business decision than creative. It was meant to differentiate the current version from the Siegel and Shuster version to give DC more leverage in their legal disputes. The dissolution of the romantic connection to Lois is another casualty.

Peeked in for the first time to see what's up, and I see we're talking about bringing back the underwear. Superman is my favorite single character from any medium, but God do Superman fans get tiresome. Some of the most nostalgia-blinded, stuck-in-their-ways people. You guys are worse than old people at church.

"If it ain't broke don't fix it!"

"My generation was better!"

"If it was good enough for grandpappy then it's good enough for me!"

"It breaks up the blue!"

I agree to a certain degree, a lot of people do seem to be pretty rigid on the subject. I don't care too much about what goes in the middle, but I do think there has to be something.

It's not that change in an of itself is bad, but some things are worth conserving. For instance redesigns and updates for Batman's look work (and even make sense) as long as crucial elements are kept. For others like Superman, Wonder Woman, and Captain Marvel (I will never call him SHAZAM) their designs are already perfect. And for the record a lot can be learned from old people that go to church, I know some that are pretty cool.

My favorite suit with the trunks was actually Shane Davis' from Earth One. I've kind of moved on from that look outside of that.

I actually really like the belt from the New 52 suit, but I'd like the collar to go away. Maybe go with a Man of Steel (movie) suit with a New 52 belt?

You can love something while still completely missing its point. Take any of the testosterone-driven brodudes who started their own fight clubs after seeing Fight Club, for example.
