I hate that they brought Gordon back. Particularly because they got rid of the entire cast of Gotham Central to do it.

Maggie Sawyer is still around

She is going to be a major character in Batwoman

The way they got rid of Commissoner Akins was stupid:doh:

I actually liked Officer Down from what i remember. I don't remember much of it because it's been a long time since I've read it, but I don't remember disliking it for any reason.

Starlin is great at DC. He did Death In the Family as well. His Superman is tops!

I always thought Death in the Family was very corny and stupid. I didn't like his Batman work much at all, although I kind of liked the KGBeast at the time. His Dreadstar series for Marvel's EPIC inprint in the early 80's was a good series and I think Starlin is best when he uses only his own characters.

Len Wein actually wrote those DCCP issues from the 80's, but Starlin's art was great.

Starlin also tried to wreck Hawkman again a couple of years back with a really stupid Hawkman special.

I see Death In The Family the same way I see The Death of Superman: two Post-Crisis stories that made an impact on DC comics (for better or worse) but the actual stories themselves aren't particularly remarkable.

And I thought Jim Aparo's art on it was really bland and uninspired. I loved his work from the 70s but it seemed to be lacklustre in the late 80s, early 90s.

His work from Batman and the Outsiders on was very uninspired IMO.

Oooooh, I wonder if Lois is gonna find out about Lois 2.0. It would be hilarious if, at the end of that arc, Clark Kent gets to punch Lex in the face for being all weird about his wife. :D

Yes, I believe we had some fine b****ing sessions about that a while back, Nubbins.

I hope there is Buffy-Bot style awkwardness:awesome:

Eh i'm more excited for the planned All-Star Superman specials from Morrison. It includes Silver Age powered Superman. Batman 2 teaming up with Superman 2 and Superboy with the Legion of Heroes!

Yeah, I'm pretty sure those plans were scrapped a long time ago. Far as I'm aware, nothing was said about them that past All Star Superman's final issue.

God, I'd sacrifice ever Earth One comic that will ever exist to get this back :csad:

If Morrison and Quitely want to do those specials. They will do them.

It all depends on much they want to do them, or if they still want to do them at all. I'm fairly sure it's not even something that was really all that planned to begin with, just something that Morrison was brainstorming about. Here's the official word from Didio from almost a year ago:

Will we ever see any of the Grant Morrison "All-Star Superman Specials" that were apparently discussed when All-Star Superman was finished?

DiDio: I don't think so. I mean, what happened was that we wanted to keep the series going, but to be quite honest, the 12 issues that Grant and Frank Quitely had done together was so spectacular, I really didn't a way to follow it up, and I was happy to see them move on to Batman and Robin. Grant has a very full plate between what he has going on with Batman and all the series, not to say that they're off the table, but right now, we're focused on a lot of other big things with Grant.
And I'm pretty sure that's been the last word on it. It won't happen most likely, and if it does, it won't for a very long time. Also, Quitely wasn't involved when Morrison was talking about it originally, he wanted to do a lot of one-shots with various different artists.

Im currently reading the first Superman comic Ive ever read and its pretty darn good. Superman Birthright.

Heck, if it gets better then I may even start reading Superman more often.

Its amazing how British writers understand Superman better than American ones do.

Joe Kelly's American, as is Greg Rucka. I think it's just good writers that understand Superman, whereas crappy writers do not.

Kelly and Rucka are good enough i suppose, but The British writers do write Superman better, IMO. They give him the imagination and grandeur that a character like him deserves. Mark Waid is probably the only american writer who can match that.

Joe Kelly's "What's So Funny About Truth, Justice, and the American Way?" is the best Superman story I've ever read, personally. And yeah, Waid did a great job with him in various things. Superman's not necessarily wrapped up in American ideals as much anymore the way he was in earlier decades, though, so it's not really like you need to be American to get him in the first place. But come to think of it, I don't really know of any British writers who did a truly impressive job with him besides Morrison anyway.

what about Rob Liefeld? j/k

I don't know if it has anything to do with race... can't make this a race issue, just boil it down to individual writers.

I think it's sad that someone is boiling down all of the influences and basis for what makes a good superman story on race. There are so many more influences and thought processes beyond that of race and as rightly pointed by others above, there have been some damn good American writers who have done great Superman stories.
