You mean you aren't riveted by JMS' thrilling social commentary?

I bought both trades but only read the first and about an issue or two into the second. I guess standards were different back then, but the "social commentary" felt really ham-fisted and silly to me.

I can believe that. The first issue of "Grounded" is all I read. JMS has his heart in the right place, but the premise as a whole is pretty stupid.

When the woman slapped Superman for being to busy saving the entire Earth to cure her husbands cancer I got that sinking feeling

So that's where Lex's hair went. Darkseid Omega Sanction it off.

Interview with Cornell on stuff

Interesting interview, but as soon as Cornell said that Mark Waid told him he couldn't remember a panel with Ra's meeting Lex, I immediately thought back to David V. Reed's "Where Were You On The Night Batman Was Killed" story arc where Ra's was the judge, Two-Face the prosecutor and in Batman #293, Lex was tried for the claim of being Batman's killer. So they have been in the same story and interacted before. Not that has any effect on this story, but I was kinda surprised Waid didn't remember it.

Yeah like Grant Morrison letting Talia rape Batman. :p

I do agree that the social commentary in the stories was very heavy-handed and about as subtle as a sledgehammer (I remember reading somewhere that O Neil himself admitted this was the case) but I still enjoyed it. Plus the characters in the story still acted like superheroes, they didn't just go on a road trip across America meeting people, they still fought supervillains and it was still fun to read.

JMS's run on Superman so far, while certainly not terrible, isn't really keeping me interested. Plus 12 issues for this story is completely overkill.

Yeah, the premise for "Grounded" seems like a really solid one-shot or, like, 4-issue mini-series or arc. A full year of it is pretty ridiculous, though. You can practically see how it's just gonna break down to JMS' thoughts, via his Superman mouthpiece, on "important issues" each month, like Degrassi: Superman Edition.

Just curious if someone could help me out.

I just finished reading Superman: Brainiac yesterday by Geoff Johns. I loved the book! At the end there is a prologue, which I assume is setting up for the continuation? I was just wondering what graphic novel is the continuation to this?

Is it New Krypton?

Thanks.

Yep because he is writing for the trade

I trade wait on some comic books

Trade waiting on Buffy Season 8

I only buy hardcovers that collect older comics that I'm afraid that I would ruin if I touch them like the Showcases of New Teen Titans and the Fourth World Omnibus, ultimate collections of Invincible and the Walking Dead, and Absolute Editions like Watchmen, The Long Halloween, and Kingdom Come.

i only buy trades/HC and usually buy only classic storylines or highly recommended ones. As comics we tend to operate on personal vision of a character and personal preference, so I tend to stay away from overhyped events like Death of CAPTAIN AMERICA and R.I.P. (with the exception of Death of Supes and Knightfall)

So far, in your guys opinion, is GROUNDED worth picking up?

Personally I like Grounded so far. Straczynski is portraying Superman's character the way I view Superman's character, so I've been really liking it.

But I can understand why people aren't digging it.

why aren't people digging it? I mean is it such a far departure from the Blue boyscout or are their other reasons?

It was really heavy-handed to me. I only read one issue before deciding I didn't want to continue with it, though, so my opinion's not the most well-informed.

Because of the subject matter. A story about Superman walking around America for 12 issues can feel like a massive drag for a lot of people. And like Corp said, some people are finding it to be a little heavy handed.
