All-Star Superman Saves a Life

An event in Grant Morrison's All-Star Superman, which becomes the subject of an animated DVD movie in February, has actually been revealed to save someone's life.
Check out this post from bspcn.com under the title "Why Superman is My Hero":

"I have struggled with depression ever since I was ten years old. It had crippled me emotionally. I was 27 years old, no college degree, no job and no will to live. I decided to kill myself after Christmas.

"And then my sister's boyfriend loaned me these comics. Superman is dying of radiation poisoning and is trying to complete all of his tasks before he dies, but he still takes the time to save a young girl who is about to jump off a building.

"I cried for hours after reading this. I identified with that girl so much, and I could almost hear Superman telling me that I'm stronger than I think.

"Now every time my depression starts to rear its ugly head, I just repeat his words and imagine him hugging me when I'm standing on the edge. It works better than any medication or therapy I've ever had.

"Now I'm in college and top of my class. I have friends. I have a life. And I don't care that he's a fictional comic book character. He still saved me."

I was going to give this arc one more chance, but I've changed my mind, I'm not bothering with it any more. Watching grass grow would be more entertaining.

Wake me up in 2025 when JMS is done with this stupid run.

Or cross over to Paul Cornell on Action Comics for your Superman fix instead. :awesome:

Yay, Death! The "childhood buddy of Superman" thing in his life montage doesn't even bother me 'cause yay, Death! :awesome:

Did he do the same for when she showed up in Madame Xanadu. I can't remember. He must've have really been into the story if he felt the need to get involved to that degree.

Lex posing as his own son is still in continuity? I thought that would've been wiped out along with everything else in his life prior to the last 8 years.

I'm trying very hard not to even think about what kind of complications in continuity that this raises, and just enjoy it for what it is.

as if JMS' superman isnt boring enough, we get a "grounded interlude" that features lois struggling with her chosen path in life. it...was....riveting....

Action Comics was :awesome: this week

I did not bother to buy JMS new issue of Superman

JMS didn't write this issue. G. Willow Wilson did. JMS' runs on Superman and Wonder Woman have gotten delayed a bit due to health issues.

I liked this issue.

That new issue of Superman was really bad and just not worth it. Its basically Lois meeting some old friends. You know you have a problem when Jimmy is doing more to save the day then Superman. This walking thing is just is neither insightful or exciting. What is Superman learning that he didn't know before or couldn't see on a different planet? What I find to be very odd is how out of play Superman has been. Would the JLA or JSA really not call him in to fight so high powered threats? I remember when Supergirl was crap and now its being what Superman should be. I think DC is just being lazy when it comes to this is walk about and I hope they end it soon.

Action Comics was great. I think Death summed up Blackest Night pretty well for me.

Ah, yet another great issue of Action Comics. Not much to say, except that it was full of win, as usual.

And Death is hawt :awesome:

I am starting to wonder if DC actually knows what to do with Superman. They know where to toss Lex,Supergirl, and Superboy. Hell they kinda have an idea of Jimmy(they kinda want to make him Peter Parker). Ill be honest I wish they had just stuck with Mon-el. That guy was going places. Superman's little walk is going nowhere because we know how its going to end. He's going to go back to metropolis with a new outlook on life and next year its torn down or tested for one reason or another. At least Superboy and Supergirl are wildcards.
