The Amazing Spider-Man 2 The Official TASM2 Costume Thread!! - Part 1

Maybe they'll make a movie based on the gloves as a spin-off.

...:huh:I didn't know Sam Raimi was Steve Ditko, because that's who Raimi ripped off. :o

The overall design is Ditko but you have to admit the raised grey/silver webbing and 'brick' material is all Sony/Raimi.

I bet if you showed the new photo to Mr. Joe Bloggs on the street they wouldn't know the difference between the new costume and the costume from the Raimi trilogy. The big question is will they think *yawn* how uninspired or will it invoke rose tinted memories for movies they enjoyed in the past.

I don't think they'll care. Show them the photo and they'll say "Yeah, that's Spider-Man." They'll see the movie if the TV Spots/trailers look good.

True, the guy/girl on the street probably couldn't care less about costumes and only care about the quality of a movie. It's the fans that care about such details. If the general audience had reservations about a Spidey reboot a costume wasn't going to change that opinion either way.

I'm strictly talking about the overall design.

They wouldn't give a s--- one way or the other, they're not deeply devoted lovers of Sam Raimi or are they fanboys. They'll just say look at it and say, it's Spider-Man. Sometimes, you have to leave these boards in order to get your sanity back, lol.

Yeah, I often talk to my sister about movies and things like costumes, effects, etc she couldn't care less about. That said I think she does care but on subconscious level, for instance if she saw bad CG it would take her out of the movie so even though she 'says' she doesn't care about effects she would care about the effect those effects would have on her viewing pleasure/dislike of a movie. And with costumes, if she saw a costume that looked stupid, again, it's going to take her out of the movie a little.

He was talking about Tyler the creator. A young LA rapper who makes alot of his music and he is known to troll people alot(I'm not going to lie I'm a fan of his work.)

One step forward, two steps back. That's my opinion of the "new" suit. I would've preferred the texture of TASM's suit instead.

That texture seems to be partially intact in the blue area. There are clear differences from the Raimi suit other than the eyes though. The webbing itself for one, after seeing further shots of the suit, is quite clearly way thinner, which I'm glad about. The red band going down the arms is exactly like the TSAM suit (narrowing down till the gloves instead of one thick band). The emblem is the TSAM emblem too. Its the spider with the loong bottom 4 legs. Those are actually some of my favorite features of the TSAM suit.

Yeah, I do wish the texture of the red area was different, but whatever worries I initially had when I saw that official pic have pretty much gone. This suit is looking like its going to be my favorite movie suit of all.

I actually showed the picture to a few co-workers who aren't big fanboys and they loved the new look. The eyes make a huge difference.

Oh God I hate these feet. Who walks on something like that ? Let alone do what Spidey does.

I hope you sneaker-haters are happy. You got your true Spidey costume.

Just thinking about how uncomfortable and impractical those boots are makes my frakking skin crawl.

I'm pretty sure that's just for stunt purposes. Not for show.

It's funny, costume design in discussion feels as if Sam Raimi was the costume designer

while he may not have designed the suit, the director has a lot to say in how the costumes the actors wear look.

Loved it at first - First released pictures

Then hated it - When the leaked shots of Spidey running where releaed where the blue looked light blue and the rid looked pink

Then loved it again - When the second trailer was released.

Lesson; Ignore leaked photos as they don't do the subject matter justice.

I don't agree. It looked just as awful in the movie as it did on set. It did not change. I don't see how someone can see two different looks.
The suit in the Raimi series looked great on set because it looked great. The suit in the Nolan Batman looked great on set because it looked great. Amazing Spider-Man's suit looked bad from day one because it is a goofy design. Just my opinion. But I don't see how it looked any different on film than it did on set.

I think both Nolan Batman suits look plastic and rubbish. The Burton suit looked better (but you couldn't move in it).

I saw part of his role in the making of the costume for Spider-Man 2, got an idea of director's yay and nay in that part

Well, I agree that the design was goofy, but there was CLEARLY a difference from film to set. I can't believe you don't see it.

Same design, yes, but it's quite clear that the second picture is more pleasurable to look at than the first.

Since they did such an awesome job updating the ASM suit by trashing it and completely going backwards and updating the Raimi suit, I can't wait to see what they do with this!

-_- (yes, that was sarcasm)

There was clearly a difference between the film and set look of the first suit, so why are people acting like it'll be any different this time? Some have said they wish the new suit had more vibrant colors like the one in ASM. Clearly, looking at the set pics the colors are anything but vibrant, but instead dull and light. Re-watching the film though, the suit looks more vibrant in comparison to the Raimi films, but it's not really that much more vibrant.

So were each of the suits in Raimi's Spidey series different or was SM1&2 the same and 3 different.

I want to see comparison like this with all of the suits, if each one is different.

All the suits look great though. I like the new eyes, but was a fan of the Raimi sleek eyes....not so much the ASM eyes. Not because they were yellow, but very small. In stills the yellow eyes didn't look to good, but in the movie I could barely tell they were yellow because they reflected everything.

The red&blue suit in SM2+3 was basically the same. The one from SM1 is different (e.g. the spider emblem), and of course the black suit in SM3.

Okay, thanks. I appreciate knowing. I thought SM2+3 looked very similar if not the same, but could tell there was a clear distinction from SM1.

I don't think the big eyes would have worked well with Raimi's series...maybe in the first film, but not in 2 or 3. The reason I say that is I don't think the general audience was ready for a too comic book looking spiderman as comic books are already considered the less serious more lighthearted area of fiction. However, we comic fans now the truth.

I think if Spiderman had come out after the Avengers and everything or if Raimi was rebooting the ASM he would have went with the big eyes too.

Showed the new Spidey suit to my sister (who isn't a geek) and she said she perfers the old ASM suit to the new one as the old one looks more realistic.
To be fair, I'm sure she'll change her mind once she sees the outfit on the big screen.

honestly, just use the same suit Raimi used. That was perfect, as much as I didn't like those movies that much

They made it close enough, with minor adjustments making it better looking
