The Amazing Spider-Man Spider-Man Reboot Costume - Part 2

I like the yellow lenses, they remind me of The Spectacular Spider-Man's slight-yellow lenses. :word:
They were yellow, lol? They only came off as slight yellow once in a while. They were white most of the time, I think. :yay:

You guys know what is scary about that picture? They black out all the negative aspects that people have made a big deal of... I mean the shoes gone. The crotch gone. You can't even see the spider on this chest very well. And this picture doesn't mean that's what he will look like in the movie... pictures are always photo-shopped a little bit to make it look nicer. The colors, the textures... you can photo-shop anything in a picture... That's what scares me.

^^^^
Yep.

what I don't understand is on the set photos the costume has no webs but black webs appear on the official pics. I can see them correcting colour in post but I can't see them adding black webs in post.

If you look carefully, though, the suit does have webbing in the set-photos, except its very muted. Which means that that, yes, there probably was color-correction done with some photo-editing software to the suit in this official pictures make the webbing more noticeable, as well as make the colors stand out more.

Eh.. I think it's fine now..was fine before.

I think I'm going to ignore set pics from now on. I was hyped when I saw garfield in the official spidey pic and then was horrified by the set pictures and now I'm hyped again.

leaked set pictures = bad
official pictures = good

While I'm probably not as vehement about the costume as you, I definitely agree. I like the colors and the texture, as well, and actually, I think the mask is the best part of the suit--because that's only thing that still resembles the original Spider-Man costume. After all, it's not like the half-belt, the striping down his legs, the silvers-spur looking things on his boots, and the black crotch-piece are no longer there, even this official picture is doing it's darn-est to hide those features. Just because the suit can made to look "better" in PhotoShop, doesn't necessarily mean this version of the Spidey costume is best one they could have done.
Exaggerate, much? The only thing that's truly lacking from the original design is the belt. Everything else is either stylistic alterations or additions to the suit.

Frankly I'm absolutely in love with the texture. They've made it pop in a new way and the entire aesthetic does seem to go for modern sleekness. I'm not too sure about the yellow eyes, that's the only alteration I truly don't get at all. The black webshooter pads could have also been omitted. It gives a sense of functionality and tactility, but it looks out of place in contrast to the rest of the suit.

Otherwise, I'm very excited about this redesign. Some elements are a downgrade from the conventional design, but overall I think it's a nice evolution from what we got in the previous series.

So everyone is on the fence because it looks like a basketball? How else do you expect it to look like when its embedding webbing! The raimi suit, and i know a lot of people will agree with me, looked like the webbing was glued on half the time. The suit looks absolutely amazing, the textures, the materials used are completely better then what was used in raimi's spiderman. Finally a spiderman suit that doesnt look like a halloween costume!

Oh and is it just me or does anyone notice a huge "scratch" line on the left side on the boot leading up to his leg. It looks like a giant scratch to me.

Once again, the suit looks amazing, i really love how much webbing they put into the mask, the black webbing is just gorgeous. I prefer this over the overspaced popping out of the head webbing in the mask of the raimi version. The colors are spot on as well. Overall this suit keeps looking better imo. Its aesthetically pleasing as well and i actually like the redesign, if you call it that. This movie is gonna be a major win.

Horrible design. They couldn't even get the web pattern on his mask right.

Thank you! I hate it when people talk about the new suit like it's some crazy new concept? the basic layout and whatnot of the colours, patterns, etc is still there. It's still recognizable as Spider-Man.

But that's just it--are those stylistic alterations, additions and subtractions to to the suit really all that necessary? Especially if it really serves no other function that just merely a design choice? The filmmakers could have just as easily taken the exact same texture of the suit and web pattern with the exact same color palate that they did for the suit and made the costume in terms of its overall design have a closer resemblance to the comic book costume like the Sam Raimi costume did. With the exception of the very visible web-shooters and the trigger pad, nearly all of the stylistic changes basically scream "different for the sake of looking different" and obviously trying too hard to distance itself from the previous Sam Raimi films.

Personally, I like to think that the yellowing of the eyes was done primarily for this image just to make it stand out more. Just like how the color palate and the web pattern stands out more in this image than they do in the set-photos.

Well, I'm glad you like it. Too each his or her own, I guess.

looks okay in the new pic, faith somewhat renewed...

Okay, then, so why make the alterations that they did to the costume? Couldn't they have kept the basic texture and color of the suit and kept it closer to the original comic book costume. Why have the glove design, the half-belt, the piping down his legs, the silver-spurs things on his boots, the incomplete web-pattern in places on the costume, and the black crotch-piece?

Necessary to what extent? Adaptations essentially gives the artist liberty to create and alter pre-existing material to their own desires. I do not know Webb's precise reasons for the changes he allowed. But I suspect he simply wanted to see what a modern redesign would look like and approved the design we are all looking at today.

Even Raimi is not excluded from this camp. He made several alterations of his own as well, just not to the same extent as Webb. You can argue over the severity, but change is change, right? If we are to boil the critique down purely to "why deviate from the original?", you will find that not a single artist who has ever worked on a comic book film can ever escape that question. They're all "guilty" of it.

i'm really diggin' this new photo...it confirms many of our theories that the suit will look better with professional photography/videography. not sure wasup with the colored lenses. i'm sure they won't look that color in the film but i know people on hype like to trip over the dumbest/smallest thing so whatever. i love the way the pattern looks on the blue but i wish they would've toned it down for the red. it's a bit overkill and DOES kind of give off the basketball textured look many refer to. i think the webbing looks fine. i definitely prefer black, thin webbing over Raimi's thick, silver webbing. i just wish they would've made the horizontal webbing curved instead of straight but that's a small gripe. i'm indifferent with the blue fingers. i think it would've looked better if they went with a black/red color palette but it's still pretty cool. i think i would've preferred red fingers though.

the only thing that really bugs me about the suit (other than no front belt and the leg stripes) is that the back of the boots are just vertical lines. it looks like they got lazy and said "ahhh f*** it, it's done!" but other than that...i really like what i'm seeing so far. i'm REALLY glad to see that it looks like they did away with the god-awful muscle suit from the previous films. even if they ARE using a muscles suit it looks more natural and the suit conforms to the body much better.

can't wait to see it in action!

Love the title and I think the costume is great too. I think other users and myself are a little bit thrown off that the design differs from the previous movies but it's something that we're just going to have to get used too. Overall, looks pretty neat. And if you put a negative filter on the image and rotate it 37 degrees, you can see an imprint of Venom's eyes! :oldrazz: :woot:

I played around with the levels to brighten the image. Link for huge.

No doubt about it, those soles are part of the suit. So tired of people claiming they're just there to protect the feet of the stunt men.

maybe they are meant to protect their feet even while doing official press photos? :P

ima break the reply down and cover things individually.

To start, money to blow??? Wern't they on a budget last i heard?

Secondly, all you've seen is pictures of the suit. They claim the suit is high tech. I’ve heard rumors of the material being able to blend with the shade in order for spidey to hide in the shadows... (Before you jump on me I’m not saying it does this is just an example) we know nothing, other than looks. They obviously put a lot of thought into the costume. I’m not saying it’s my personal choice but it works. Red, blue web pattern. People will recognize this as Spiderman. I’m guessing if they get a good well put together movie people won’t really care the way you do about the costume. Why try and please the fan boys by giving them a perfect suit. Fan boys are near impossible to please when it comes to superhero costumes.
Proof: Spiderman 1's costume, design wise, was PERFECT but people still complain about things on it. Even I do. Blue looks bland and I don’t like the raised webbing but I understand it transitions well with the cameras better so I got over it. Same with the blue, I couldn’t change it so I let it go.

The suit ripping. Personally I wasn’t there so I don’t know but I don’t think it was a rip. There’s a black thing there (maybe a microphone?) no proof it’s a rip. Or was there?

"Yes I know they want to differ and they have already, different first suit, different villain, different love interest and NO J. Jonah Jameson."
Diff first suit: you gave my point and supported me... (?)
Diff villain: every superhero movie either has a diff villain or adds one/some
Diff love interest: doesn’t have to be a new franchise to fall in love with someone else, same with JJJ not being present. Not everyone knows things about Spiderman outside the first movie franchise. Not everyone watches cartoons or reads comics. Look at the way people confused hulk with the new hulk. Even I thought they were the same franchise till I looked into it. And not everyone does. So sorry man, but those were horrible examples. If you had better ones maybe id be singing a different tune.

Movie too soon to reboot? Check this out playa…
Batman was made in 1989 followed by sequels.
Batman forever (reboot) was made in 1995
This is a 6 year difference

Spiderman 1 was made in 2002 followed by sequels
Spiderman reboot comes out 2012
This is a 10 difference

No one complained about the batman thing and that was rebooted in less time than Spiderman.

And finally I’m not saying people don’t know who Spiderman is. Of course they do. But I am saying that they won’t care as much as you about a little sprucing up in the design. And if you think it’s the fan boys who want a perfect costume that’s goona make this movies money back you’re sorely mistaken. And I don’t even have to know, well really anything about movie making to know this. And I’m very limited in this area.
The suit hasn’t changed in over fifty years??
Have you not seen scarlet spider for example..? Just sayin.
Food for thought: did you really want a 4th installment? Didn’t Raimi say he wanted vulturess in it? Blahhhh. Have fun with that movie.

Alright I respect where your coming from and what not but I knew this was gonna happen, I said different first suit. first suit being the wrestling suit because well the suit you see in the pictures are designs from the wrestling suit so it is nothing more to me than a wrestling suit and thought??? the design is straight from the comic how is that alot of thought??. by the way spider-man 3 came out 3 years and x amount of months ago so yes it's still fresh and when I said the design hasn't changed well um I was right the Scarlet-Spider is a whole different character altogether so that is a poor example and have you seen the budget??? just sayin and Gwen Stacy was shown in the 3rd one if you recall so people do know who she is..and if not from that then you saw her in the cartoon series....and no not every super-hero movie has different villains. FOR EXAMPLE The Joker in the first Batman and the Dark Knight ummmm catwoman in the 2nd and she will appear in the 3rd Bane from batman forever and now the 3rd one. Captain America for example Red skull will be in both movies. So don't tell me about villains and NO I don't want the 4th one to happen because Raimi was messing the franchise up. The reboot will be done well, why do you think the series is getting rebooted in the first place? woah when did batman forever become a reboot??? Sorry batman was in 1989 and batman begins was in 2005 spiderman one was 2002 and this untitled one is 2012. I am pretty sure batman had a longer wait. Oh and btw I was a fan of the old spider-suit. I thought it was perfect.

Okay, then, so why make the alterations that they did to the costume? Couldn't they have kept the basic texture and color of the suit and kept it closer to the original comic book costume. Why have the glove design, the half-belt, the piping down his legs, the silver-spurs things on his boots, the incomplete web-pattern in places on the costume, and the black crotch-piece?

why did raimi get rid of the webshooters? why was the spider genetically altered instead of irradiated? why were the colors so muted in the first 3? did he change stuff just to be different?

ish happens man. but youve got to be consistent here.

and the fact that you KEEP bringing up the crotch....man, oh man......it is more than likely darkened FOR POST!

I understand what you're getting at. And yes, this isn't to say that ALL changes and alterations made to a superhero film are necessarily bad. Some are indeed done for aesthetics. Some are done because it's for storytelling purposes. And some pretty much try to stay as faithful as possible. But in my opinion, in terms of the costumes for the original trilogy and this reboot version, it was very evident that Sam Raimi wanted to be as faithful as possible to the comic book version of the costume and what alterations there were ended up being minor and didn't take away from the idea that it looked like Spidey had literally leaped off the comic book page. In the case of this costume, while it still is similar enough to say "This is Spider-Man," there are so many noticeable design alterations that it just looks as though the filmmakers, as if telling their audiences that these movies will have nothing to do with Sam Raimi's films, made the alterations they did just for the sake of making it look different from the costume in the original films.

and the fact that you KEEP bringing up the crotch....man, oh man......it is more than likely darkened FOR POST!

Not really, because notice in the first official photo of Andrew Garfield wearing to suit, the crotch actually IS black. So it's not a "darkened for post" detail:

untitled_spider_man_reboot01.jpg

But once again, if this suit was Raimi's suit back in 2001, you all would be having a heart attack right now.

the *****ing about the crotch needs to stop. it's literally the most ridiculous piece of nitpicking i've heard in all my years on the hype. you WILL not notice it in the movie. it's only that way to make his bulge less noticeable.
