The Official Thor thread

They can't even have Strange just not fight because it'd make him look like a complete dick with the Hulk threatening the whole world. I still think the Hulk's threats are empty, but Strange couldn't take that chance.

Strange has been upgraded back to "Dues ex machina" status. o.o

You probably don't need to put deus ex machina in quotes, I'm just saying that's pretty much explicitly the point of the character.

It's like saying the Living Tribunal or somebody is deus ex machina, it's like, well... yeah.

Only when he's with a team like the New Avengers. By himself or even with the Defenders, the types of threats he faces are usually scaled up so that even he can't just wave them away.

Would it be fair to say that Strange's limits have yet to be truly tested?

The reason they give for the Hulk being able to stand up to Black Bolt is that he is, as of WWH, angrier than he has ever been. That's straight from Greg Pak, the writer of the whole event since Planet Hulk. Also, the warp core explosion somehow interacted with the Hulk's physiology to make him even stronger than usual to begin with. That's also from Pak. So he's got a higher base strength than his usual class 90-100, plus he's angrier than ever. I think those two factors make it perfectly reasonable for the Hulk to be kicking as much ass as he is.

Granted, that explanation will probably fall flat when it comes to Strange, since no amount of physical power should really be a problem for Strange. But Pak's done well enough so far that I'm optimistic he'll make the Hulk/Strange fight at least kind of believable.

Plus don't forget Hiroim, one of his warbound taught him to focus his rage making that much more efficient.

Well the defenders was an amazing team. Just having silver surfer and strange together made it so you needed a really top tier villain, to not mention the Hulk, Namor or Valkyrie.

Given that Strange is A: Immortal, B: Powerful enough to fight against Death (The entity itself, or the embodiment, whichever it wishes to be called) and C: Immune to physical harm, or at least has enchantments that protect him from any physical harm. I can't see how the Hulk would stand much of a chance. Im hoping the current writers/writer remember just how powerful Strange actually is when putting them up against one another.

When did Strange become immortal?

His first act as Sorceror Supreme was to challenge Death. He did and won. His reward was Immortality, I believe Eternity was the one who granted it to him. Now strange can only die if he choses to, nothing else can kill him.
As for when, early on I'd say seeing it was the first thing he did upon gaining his nifty title. Oh and the immortality was never revoked :yay:

It's been forgotten, then. He seemed in very real danger of dying in Dr. Strange: The Oath, which came out last year.

To be fair he looked like ****e after coming out of "M-World" too. Maybe it'll be remembered, but i'll not hold my breath.

Maybe he chose to get rid of it at some point we didn't see. Seems kind of dumb, but it makes as much sense as anything else.

I've said it before, Marvel is going down the pan and the main cause is a bad memory.

It's not that simple.

Nothing ever is, but when explaining something I like to keep it simple, or as simple as I can or are we talking about something different here? That happens a lot on this board.

Unless its been retconned, Steven Strange is supposed to live around 600 years as Master Mystic...I have the ish somewhere where the Ancient One said this. Other beings have great mystical power, Strange can't just do anything he wants. I don't see the connection with fighting Hulk, (which seems like is the flavor of the month for some reason.) What's lifting 100 tons mean to a being like Infinity? Nothing at all. It would mean little to Strange, either. Physical force can always be counteracted with cosmic or mystic force, on a different scale altogether. There's no physical restriction there, but muscle power only goes so far.

Well Stange could simply banish the Hulk but he says that he will not do that. He will also not kill the Hulk. the other thing is putting him in stasis which is possible. the one thing Hulk did break the bands of cyttorak at one point.

He's a lot older than 600 already though. Over 5 thousand I think.
What you said is basically the reason im hoping that if/when he fights the Hulk, Stephen will win.

A Strange vs. Hulk battle would be ridiculous since Strange is used to battling gods and cosmic entities. Hulk is nothing compared to Steven's past opponents, I don't care how strong Hulk is.

Strange would make the Hulk nonexistent if he fought him. Then the Hulk would break Marvel's logic barrier by his mere nonexistence and punch Strange so hard he'd start Marvel's version of One Year Later.

I get the feeling I'm giving Marvel ideas...

1) SHH = off-topic fanboy discussions.

2) That stopped being completely true around page 6, if not before. Plus, this is the beginning of the run- there isn't much else to speak of outside of conjecture and other things until something impressive occurs.

Something impressive? Thor recreates Asgard in a massive thunderstorm in issue #2. Go, discuss.
