Great to see this film is off to a great start...Potter will rule the BO for a while.

Yes.

Transformers
Domestic: $222,990,000 69.6%
+ Foreign: $97,207,996 30.4%
= Worldwide: $320,197,996

HP5
Domestic: $140,017,000 42.4%
+ Foreign: $190,300,000 57.6%
= Worldwide: $330,317,000

Transformers was never gonna do better the Harry Potter over seas. I know not why people are surprised by Harry Potter 5 domenating world wide wise. Transformers was always gonna be a Domestically BO success.

Not really, considering that Harry Potter has a lot more mass appeal internationally than Transformers.

The direction of this film was poor. The film was all over the place.

If it wasn't for Ralph Fiennes it would have been a total loss.

Yeah. Umbridge torturing Harry like that would be a little tough for some kids to handle. Correct me if I'm wrong but didnt he have several sessions like that with her in the book or was it just he one. I'm fairly certian it was more then once before anybody found out about it.

The film was a let down . . . I enjoyed the book so much.

It was meh.

I thought it was way too rushed...and I understand that cut stuff out from the book and all that, but...IDK. Also, I thought Serius's death was so anticlimactic and dumb. I didn't even care when he died. I was like "Oh well." They needed to better make the connection on how close Harry and him were and also length his death some. They should have also developed Bellatrix more so you could A.) understand what made her so evil besides killing Nevil's parents and B.) care about her killing her cousin. Also, "you know who" (:p) was beyond lame. I found him so laughable. They need a new actor. Also, hire a better CGI team.

5/10

What was with Luna's face?

you don't think gary oldman, alan rickman and maggie smith helped at all?

Having yet to see it due to time restraints, can someone answer something that is really bothering me? Why is Voldemort in the train station in a suit and tie?

He is haunting Harry's mind.

But I thought Voldemort was unaware of the connection until the attack on Arthur. Oh well, that is relatively minor as they had to show it some how and you can't really do Harry's internal monologue in a movie.

It's just the hare bear being delusional:oldrazz:

Arthur is? I haven't read the books. Is that the Weasly's dad?

I don't know. Maybe it is a plot hole. Either that, or the fact that Harry was just seeing him everywhere he went due to the fact of the previous book/movie's event.

I think Yates did a good job considering there was so much source material to sift through. He couldnt include everything in the book but what he did give us was great and aligns with the previous stories and where the story is going.

I think it's easy to find
Sirius's death
anti-climatic if you knew it was coming.

Damn teenagers and their hormones :cmad:

Speaking of, was there any foreshadowing to HBP. I figured since Yates is doing both, he may make the movie with a little bit more regard to the future movies (unlike Newell with Goblet). Was there any hinting at Ginny and Harry's relationship or the significance of the Slytherine locket?

They took out the attack on Arthur? :csad:

How does Gambon come off when discussing the prophecy/his mistake at the end? One of my biggest complaints is how mean new-Dumbledore is. Is he a bit softer in that scene?

That is such a cop-out. OOTP is one of the tightest and shortest narratives of the series. The book is only long because of the visuals and internal dialogue. It would've been easy to include certain things (I am basing this on what I have read has been cut)

Hinting at Ginny? Yes. He gives her a praise and they share a glance and then she blasts the Deatheaters and it repeats. Locket? No.

Well, I suppose the locket is only fan speculation at this point (then again, it was on the UK cover of Book 7...so maybe not). Still, I'm glad Newell is trying to actually connect the movies. Anything regarding Snape? I felt in GOF he was sort of just wrote off as the mean teacher. Did they hint at how much more significant he would become? I guess it is hard not to being as he gives the Occlumency lessons.

He was part of the Order and he tried to help Harry with the whole Voldemort-Harry mind thing. Also Harry read his mind and found James picking on him when they were in school. That was it.

Thanks for all your help Charlie  Despite my distaste for the filmmakers disregard of the books, I still can't wait!
