The full description of the trailer sounds amazing.

Too amazing to be true, in fact. If it is indeed legit, then great, I'm gonna have a coronary every five seconds. It seems they are again stuffing as many as they can in the teaser, gee, no one saw that coming at all. I can't wait.

Clarification on Phoenix Trailer Description

Yesterday we posted what is believed to be a very detailed description of the teaser trailer for Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. Leaky has now been able to discover that while many of the shot descriptions are accurate, parts of the dialogue that were described will not be incorporated in the version that is to be released in theaters here in the States next week before the showing of Happy Feet. We believe this teaser trailer will be more in line with this first post on the trailer, and the material posted yesterday more likely for an international version, to be released at a later date. The various trailers are still being produced, and the content material will change for these alternate/extended versions at various dates.

Just seven more days until the teaser hits.

But the LOTR films didnt run over three hours in theaters. They were like 2 hours and 30-45 minutes. Its only when he released the extended cut they were over three hours and that was on dvd.
Something must be wrong with your math. All the Theatrical Releases were close to three hours or were well past it.
Fellowship was 178 minutes
Two Towers was 175
ROTK was 200 minutes.

Running times courtesy of Amazon.com

The Extended editions just put the films close to or well past 4 hrs.

But Back to Harry Potter: IIRC Chamber of secrets to date is the longest Harry Potter film which is in fact 20 minutes shy of three hours. (the EE I think would put at the three hour mark) If people could stomach CoS, then why not a 3 hr. OOTP? To me I think that starting with Goblet of Fire all the films should have a minimum 3hr running time.

Everyone stop fighting on how you think you could do a better job at these movies and how badly the people who are actually trying. A book is a book, and a movie is a movie.

End of argument(s).
Your right. Books have more freedom to further explain various topics that the author's plot addresses. Or they can trail off for a little bit and have non plot essential activities go on in the story. Movies for the most part can't translate some aspects of books, which is what most people accept. As for the Harry Potter Novels I think that all of the them can be translated with a 90-98 percent accuracy rate. (Like the first two)

As for OOTP I do think that my personal gripes aren't really that bad at all. Especially the John Williams Omission. I just didn't like anything about the GoF score. I just hope that Williams will get a chance to finish the films.

From Mugglenet.com

David Yates to direct 'Half-Blood Prince'?
Production Weekly's latest issue contains information concerning Half-Blood Prince, including that David Yates is set to direct the film. While everyone should consider this a rumor for now, we heard that David had been in talks with WB to possibly direct HBP.

We'll update you when we know more! Thanks to H for the tip.

The REASON that the first two HP films are terrible is BECAUSE 98% of the book was translated. First and foremost, they are trying to make good movies. Just because you can adapt most of a book doesn't mean you should.

You think so? I enjoyed the first just fine. Granted I saw the movies before I read the book. Even after reading the books I still love the films. I'll ask you this what specifically made the films terrible by your standards? I'm curious.

Books are open to interpretation, not to be taken literally. The first 2 HP films were EXACTLY like the books, with little room for imagination. The actions were copied from the book, as was each scene. It's following a rehearsed play, with NO deviation whatsoever. When you read the books, you interpret the HP world in your own way, and not have it set.

As for POA, whilst the film story is the weakest (though some of the bits in the book are hard to translate when building up tension), there's a great deal more creativity and interpretation as you explore more of the magical world. All PS/SS and COS cared about was Harry, the trio and Hogwarts. There was no thought to explore beyond, into the rest of the world, when the very point of film is to VISUALISE the written word.

(BTW, there's a Jason Isaac's interview at The Leaky Cauldron (a HP site) which tells you all about the creativity and imagination of Chris Colombus (director of PS/COS) and how the other films would have been done with him in charge.

I don' think doing as direct a translation as possible is the problem - I think Chris Columbus simply wasn't a strong enough filmmaker to do it well.

That's true, but the fact is that book and film are 2 VERY diffrent mediums, and what works in one will not work in another.

Case in point:- The DaVinci Code, directed by Ron Howard (Apollo 13, Ransom, The Grinch, Cinderella Man). It was directed by a visionary director and almost translated word for word (with very obvious casting), yet the film is unbelievably boring (forget the subject matter, the film puts you to sleep).

Books have to be reinterpreted for the big-screen but the core concept of the story should remain (i.e. The really good bond films, like OHMSS or Goldfinger).

The reason the first two aren't that good is because the books aren't that great. Rowling didn't really come into her own until writing POA. Most of the first two books are just foundation.

As for translation, there is a huge difference between adapting for the sake of film, and change for the sake of change while leaving crucial plot points out. There was no reason to exclude the Marauders from POA. There was no reason to exclude the house elves, Sirius, and proper explanation of Barty Crouch Jr from GOF. These are all crucial plot points, not only important to the movies but also important to future movies in the series. And what did we get for their omissions? Five minutes of wacky talking Jamacian head? Kids making animal noises? My god! Revolutionary film making right there!

There is no reason to make Dumbledore an *******. There is no reason to replace everything Ron does with something Hermione does just to show how great Hermione is. These are stupid changes for the sake of having change. Nothing more, nothing less.

Nah I'd say Ron is just as useless in the books. You got the powerful one, the smart one and the uhh...red headed one.

Not really. Ron is Harry's link to the wizarding world. He is always explaining things to Harry that Hermione cannot. Yet for some reason they always choose to give his lines to Hermione. Plus they took his only notable plot of OOTP out of the movie.

Yeah, it really sucks. On top of that, Ron's role seems to have shrunk in the books, and I can't help wondering if that was done to make the book Ron match up more with his film counterpart.

You really think that's plausible? That's the stupidest idea i've ever heard, and I listen to NPR:down:

This would mark the third big budget event where the main charcter goes NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! :p

Spidey 2, ROTS, and now OOTP.

I've noticed that in all 3 Spider-Man movies now, Peter has a line along the lines of "I have to stop it."
