Tom - I've always thought he looked 6'4"..

You know, on my recent cross-country trek with the kids I learned that biscuits and gravy seems to be a fave for hotels that include hot breakfast with their room rates, but nary a one was any good with either the biscuits or the gravy.



That's a comfort food for ya....

I'm posting this picture in response to the discussion as to whether Tom is 6'3" or 6'4". I think the picture is more than likely deceiving, however he certainly looks taller than the other models in it.

Yeah, that one is a bit deceiving due to the angle, plus we don't know hot tall the other models are.

I've posted some of these photos before for comparison. As James will be quick to point out, photos of Welling tend to be deceiving by some strange quirk of the cosmos. His proportions are also rather odd, which contributes to the optical illusion. That said, clearly he's pretty freakin' tall, and quite beefy through the chest. *I* wouldn't want to piss him off, superpowers or not LOL.

John Schneider is 6'3"

John Glover is 6'1"

Michael McKean is 6'

This one is less easy to see, but next time you watch Exile or Phoenix, remember, Rutger Hauer is 6'2"
(Kreuk is standing on an apple box in the other photo, so don't go by that LOL. Either that, or Welling is standing in a big hole.)

Finally, this one has made the rounds ad nausea. But knowing that Welling is at *least* 6'3", and probably 6'4", these caps just drive the point home: he's one freakin' big guy...

You know what I'd like to see.. and Pat would probably be the person who'd have the pictures.. is a side by side look at Tom featuring his very deep chest, and some classic Superman illustrations, also with the signature deep chest. It's not a really common body shape, broad chests are more commonly seen than deep ones, or ones that are both..but Tom certainly has the requisite chest.

There is a scene in the barn where Lana is leaving and Clark is in his white t-shirt and seen in a sideview that illustrates his chest depth perfectly, but I can't recall what ep it's from. I saw a pic of Superman posted somewhere very recently that also showed the deep chest, and right way reminded me of Tom's shape. I'll have to look for it.

My nephews are barrel chested (deep chested). It comes from their father being Bolivan which is a mountainous country (at least according to my sis) So maybe there is a genetic, ethnic reason of some sort.

The whole height thing is so difficult.

All of the heights that i've written on the pics are an "official" height:

This is Tom on TRL - there's perspective foreshortening that makes Tom looks shorter, but correct the angle and he's around an inch taller. Quddus actually looks to be more like 6'2 or 6'3 to me. This would put Tom somewhere around 6'3" or 6'4".

Piper's wearing big heels, so her height is out of synch... Tom's at least three inches taller than Steve; but then i'm not convinced that Steve is any taller than 6'. Again, between 6'3" and 6'4".

This is the only picture where these two are head-on without any skewed angles... I would say they're basically identical - I've often thought John was possibly closer to 6'4", so Tom probably is too. Whaddaya know, 6'3" or 6'4". Again.

Jessica Alba - she's probably more like 5'6", but there's still a good three quarters of a foot difference, if not a couple of inches more. I sense a pattern on the 6'3" and 6'4" thing.

I think Annette is probably closer to 5'2", but she has good two or three inch heels; and Tom's a whole head taller. This one would put him at around 6'4".

Carson is tall, so I don't have too much trouble believing that he's 6'1" or 6'2" - and Tom's got a good two inches on him. My pattern is correlating very prettily...

The other half of the time, I'd bet he's doing it himself.

You're right, he probably was!

You know, that second photo makes me think of Michelangelo's Pieta sculpture at St. Peter's.

Not too close after I looked it up, but it did make me think of it.

Not that I'm one of those people who draw too strong a connection between Jesus and Superman, but that pose just reminded me of that sculpture, which is one of my favorites...

Omg.. I can't believe you posted that. The Pieta is my favorite work of art ever. It's one of my lifelong dreams to go see it one day. I'm not a religious person in any sense, but that sculpture is simply perfection.
