Yep. Agreed. I'll have to wander over the web this weekend and see what I can find.

I would imagine some sites are better than others, like with Superman. ;) :D

I like how the colors came out in this one. From Transference:

LOL!

Yeah, I've been playing with making animated gifs myself but haven't quite gotten the hang of it yet. I may just change my avatar yet again soon once I do.

I wish we'd get an update on The Fog sitch... I guess we'll eventually know one way or the other.

BTW: Lara, try googling "The Fog" and Wainwright instead.... I got much better results with that search earlier today.

And I's back. So it's true... very good. Tom's making a movie that won't take that much filming, and that will get him out of the teen niche. Plus I love horror films.

Very good.

I've just got home to check my email and the 'net... 100 emails. Ouch. But the news is good.

This'll be good.

Here's the Hollywood Reporter report:

Feb. 19, 2005

Welling, Grace lost in 'The Fog' remake

Tom Welling and Maggie Grace will star in the remake of John Carpenter's classic horror thriller "The Fog" for Revolution Studios. Rupert Wainwright is directing and Debra Hill, David Foster and Carpenter are producing the film, which Cooper Layne is penning from the screenplay written by Hill and Carpenter for the original 1980 film.

"Fog" is set in a Northern California town where, about 100 years ago, a ship sank under mysterious circumstances in a thick, eerie fog. The ghosts of the deceased mariners return from their watery graves to seek their revenge. Welling will play a local boat owner who never left the town, and Grace will portray a college girl who is back in her hometown for the summer.

CAA-repped Welling is the star of the WB Network hit "Smallville." He also appeared in the feature "Cheaper By the Dozen."

Grace, repped by Innovative Artists, is best known for the ABC hit "Lost." (Borys Kit)

good for him, that ho wyou start of , nothing to big and then build from there, before you know it he will be bigger and better star.

Good to see that Welling is doing a new movie. I hope that this movie helps him to grow more as an actor, and i'm sure he will because he is a much better actor than in the first season of smallville and IMO after the currently seson noone can say that he is a lame actor, he proved that in the future he will be a good actor.

It's great that Tom found a movie and has something to keep himself busy while the show is on hiatus. At least Warner didn't screw that. The good thing about it being a horror movie, is that horror movies rely alot of their performers and how they "sell" what's going around them or just plain fear in general. The bad thing about it, is that most horror movies, especially remakes are not that good and are usually only worth of a rental, if that. I hope this one is a good one and Tom knows what he's doing.
Personally it wouldn't be the type of movie I would choose for him but I'm rooting all the way for him to be sucessful in this.

Welcome back and you're happy too awww we need a group hug. I just hope it's not too gory since I'm a wimp.

I picked up a copy of "The Fog" at Blockbuster today too... $9.99, such a deal. :)

I know I saw it way back when.. but I keep confusing that with King's "The Mist" in my mind (which was a TV movie)... I swear, parts of my brain are completely rusted shut. :(

I think I'll watch it tonight.. along with "The Grudge" which I rented at the same time.

Bruce, don't worry. John Carpenter and his producing partner, Debra Hill, are both on board and love what the helmer has planned.

I posted the original article that I had found over on filmforce over in one of the other three Welling movie threads, but you can read it here: http://filmforce.ign.com/articles/570/570378p1.html

Gosh, I thought going back and forth between SV, Superman, and TW related boards was spreading myself thin. Now I'm looking at horror boards. Oh the humanity... So many things to say, so many message boards to do it in. LOL!!

Okay, first up, Smallville. (hee!)

Jeph Loeb was interviewed in the recent SV magazine (the one with Kreuk on the cover). He had some really nice things to say about Tom. Here's an excerpt:

Tom's performance is uncanny. He has tremendous presence, and it's been great to watch him grow and watch him challenge himself. It was one of the really amazing things that I noticed at the beginning of season two - Tom really started to grow, to make the character his own. This is the story of Clark Kent, and it needed to be the story of a Clark Kent that we could believe in. We could write scripts until we were blue in the face - Tom made that happen.
Wow! This is EXACTLY what I've been saying since Day One. Welling's portrayal has been so good, he's lifted the character off the page and made him such that we can really believe in him. The last actor able to truly do that for me was Reeve. :)

Next up, The Fog. (this really is too funny)

"Vanilla-7" posted the following over on the IMDb boards back on 1/14/05. I found it interesting in retrospect because it details a little of the logic that went into Welling being cast. Welling will be playing "Nick."

I guess the problem is that this remake is like a lot of remakes - things are being changed. The cast members are going to be young contemporaries. Went to the same small-town high school (i.e. Stevie was a senior when Nick and Liz were freshmen, or something). Elizabeth and Nick are going to have a past relationship. The director didn't want Liz to just jump right into bed with Nick like Jamie Lee does in the original with Tom Atkins. That, and Nick was old enough to be Elizabeth's father in the first film. That doesn't work realistically in today's film market. Basically, I think Nick and Liz are going to be high school sweethearts who broke up because Elizabeth left town for bigger and better things. She comes back to town at the same time the fog does, and she and Nick reunite. There isn't even a script yet, but I do know they will not be strangers and that they will both be YOUNG (or at least LOOK young - 21, 22).
I guess "look young" was key, yet again. ;)

Thanks for the info. I've been trying to look at horror boards myself but I can't find this film being discussed in a forum. I was curious to read what people were saying since this is so not my genre. Can you recommend a site?

Yeah, I'm having trouble finding anyone talking about this...

It would be nice to see what you've found.

Once again, thanks for the Info Triplet ! You're turning into my nº1 Insider...lol ;0)

Biggest place to *start* is IMDb. Everybody and his brother goes there. It's the Aberdeen Proving Grounds for newbies though, so beware. I've been a user there since 1998 (I think?) LOL. I just recently posted for the first time in over a year in The Fog's forum. Too funny. Anyway, here's the link:

http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0432291/board/threads/

CHUD is another great place. I had some AWESOME discussions there AND... get this - even exchanged opinions and praise with the DIRECTOR of Equilibrium - on the MESSAGE BOARDS. (For those who don't know, that was a recent Christian Bale film which I'm *sure* got him noticed for Batman because of the character portrayals.) It was just surreal, and very very cool. Nick runs a tight ship there and he's well respected among genre fans. If you want to discuss The Fog there, you need to start a thread for it. As of right now, I didn't see one. Follow the rules of thread formats though. There's a sticky for it. Here's the link to the Focused Film Discussion forum:

http://chud.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=98

Those are the first two that come to mind because I'm a member of both BBSs. (I'm "AgentPat" on those boards as well, but you guys knew that, right? LOL)

It gets a little out of hand though, so be careful. It gets to a point where you really ARE spread out too thin and can't keep up with discussions on EVERY board, which is why I didn't start a thread over on CHUD. I'd like to, but I'd feel sort of "responsible" to hang there and keep up with the discussion. It's tough to do. LOL ;)

Also, as I mentioned over at DTS, folks should keep their eyes opened for new interviews and articles about TW that will likely start surfacing over the next few months in horror-related magazines like Fangora. The Fog IS a John Carpenter film after all. He goes back over 40 years in the horror and suspense genre, so Tom has just entered a whole new world of fandom. It's pretty exciting, actually.

PS: How ironic is it that the two leads for this film currently star on competing shows that air opposite one another in the same time slot? Hee!!

LOL!

My sis works at APG... I'm surprised anyone else had even heard of it.

Thanks for the links.

Me! LOL!

No way...

I'm about 1,300 miles too far East to be an insider.... I just like to read up on things.

:shrugs:

I really like to research stuff and it's about the only part of my job that I like: researching stuff on the internet, so I'm pretty good at it.
