My sis works at APG... I'm surprised anyone else had even heard of it.
LMAO!! Small world. I thought *everybody* knew about APG, even if just as a metaphor. ;)

Thanks for the links.
Oh, no problem. I'm stoked about the casting. (Duh!) :D

It will be fun to watch this all come together as the months progress, kind of like I thought it'd be with another film *ahem*. It's going to get so exciting near the end of the summer too 'cause Tom will likely do a few talk shows to promote SV as well as TF.

If JC wasn't involved, I might be a little worried, but Carpenter is a master, and he managed to do something nobody knew was possible: he turned a child star for Walt Disney into a bad azz that fans to this day believe can do no wrong....

Saw her at Christmas, took us on a tour and she knows some of the firemen so me and the little ones got to check out all of the firefighting equipment they got there. It was cool.

What? Tom do press? LOL!

Ain't that a concept?

It'll be great.

Truly....

I loved Escape from New York. Totally turned Kurt's career around.

Proof positive JC's great at casting. Probably knows what we do: Tom is gold and talented as all hell.

I picked up a copy of The Thing (my two triplet sisters and me snuck into the theatre with friends about ten times to see that film... love that movie) when I got The Fog.

Kurt was so hot in that film.... yummy.

Stylish and really scary. Great film that does stand the test of time, unlike The Fog.

I'm really looking forward to this film.

Here's what AICN had to say, and Quint ain't liking the remake:

Superboy and that hot blonde from LOST cast in remake of THE FOG!!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with some... interesting news. Hollywood Reporter says SMALLVILLE's Tom Welling and LOST's Maggie "I'm damn hot in a Dominique Swain kinda way" Grace is cast in ****MATA... erm, I mean STIGMATA director Rupert Wainwright's attempt at topping John Carpenter's awesome 1980 film, THE FOG.

I don't have much faith in this adaptation. Although I don't particularly care for SMALLVILLE personally, I don't have any problem with Tom Welling and I love LOST and want to see any of the cast move on to do something cool... however, it seems that casting for this film is going the traditional "pull young hot people from TV" route that I really dislike, especially since the original had a predominantly older cast. I mean, Jamie Lee Curtis was the young face in the older crowd in the original.

I just have a feeling that this film will totally abandon the slow creep and the atmosphere for a clone of I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER. I hope I'm wrong. I didn't think the ASSAULT ON PRECINCT 13 remake was going to be anything but a turd and I was proven wrong there, so who knows? But I can say that they didn't cast ASSAULT off of the WB...

Jeph Loeb was interviewed in the recent SV magazine (the one with Kreuk on the cover). He had some really nice things to say about Tom.

Just want to add that I picked this magazine up yesterday and I think it has some of the most interesting articles of all the previous ones. I particularly enjoyed the interviews with Jeph Loeb and Annette O'Toole. Annette is so refreshingly candid in her remarks and she's obviously a down-to-earth person who truly cares about her fellow actors and the show itself. I highly recommend getting this one.

Here is what The Hollywood North Report had to say, note that they make mention of Smallville's skedded end of production for this season:

Smallville’s Tom Welling cast in John Carpenter remake

Seems our friend Tom Welling may be pulling double duty this spring, with word from The Hollywood Reporter that he has been cast in a lead role for the upcoming remake of John Carpenter’s, The Fog, set to begin shooting here in Vancouver on March 14. Season four of Smallville doesn’t wrap till April 13, so we suspect there may be some schedule contortionism involved here.

According to Revolution Studios, Welling plays a local boat owner who never left the town, and Maggie Grace (Lost) stars opposite him as a college girl who is back in her hometown for the summer.

The Fog is set in a Northern California town where, about 100 years ago, in a thick, eerie fog off the rocky coast, a horrible shipwreck occurred under mysterious circumstances. Now, shrouded in darkness, the ghosts of the long-dead sailors have returned from their watery graves to exact their bloody, merciless revenge.

For you locals reading this, I’m going to go out on a limb and say that this sounds like a Steveston location shoot to me. Time will tell…

Sowee, Hulk. It was the first image of Snake that came up so I snagged it. EfNY was the best, hands down.

Yes! That's what I was saying over at DTS. But I bet there was already a plan in place. The SV team would have had to juggle skeds with another production *ahem* anyway, had things worked out differently. ;)

They must have... ;) :D

Tom will be great, I'm sure. He's so talented and Smallville doesn't let him do flashier acting much.

Only when he's on Red-K or his body's been taken over by Lionel, so hopefully all the Tom Welling can't act his way out of a paper bag crap will finally be put to rest.

I doubt Tom's schedule will be too adversely affected, there should be plenty of this movie to shoot before they'll require him for anything really important. It's probably going to be far easier than it sounds. Contortionism? Pah! :p

He probably won't have any days off during the overlap, however...

He's one hard working guy.

Oh, I dunno about that. ;)

What do you mean?

How else could he film a feature and TV show at the same time?

Now that Tom has snagged a starring role in an upcoming film, I wonder if this thread will catch up or even overtake the "Tom Welling Should Have Been Superman" thread in post counts??

I'm sure they'll try to do most of the shots that don't require Tom whilst Smallville is still shooting, that way Tom won't have to be there during every second that he has free. He's a lead role but it should still be a fairly ensemble piece like the original. They could possibly, at a pinch, get away with not having him there at all until mid april.

I'm positive that he'll be doing double duty to some degree, just not to the degree of being on a set every single day. The last thing they want is for him to be hospitalised due to exhaustion - or is it only Michael Jackson who is hospitalised for that? ;)

They shoulda merged that thread with this one... so much history, now very difficult to find.

The Yahoo entertainment editors just discovered this tidbit, I guess:

Welling, Grace Lost in 'The Fog' Remake

POSTED: 9 minutes ago!!!! I posted this at 12:20am (2:20am Eastern)

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Tom Welling ("Smallville") and Maggie Grace ("Lost") will star in the remake of John Carpenter's classic horror thriller "The Fog."

Rupert Wainwright ("Stigmata") is directing the project for Sony-based Revolution Studios.

"Fog" is set in a Northern California town where, about 100 years ago, a ship sank under mysterious circumstances in a thick, eerie fog. The ghosts of the deceased mariners return from their watery graves to seek their revenge. Welling will play a local boat owner who never left the town, and Grace will portray a college girl who is back in her hometown for the summer.

John Carpenter, who directed and co-wrote the 1980 original, is serving as a producer of the remake.

Yeah this is sounding good. I hope Tom Welling will also take some smaller roles to improve his acting, indepent features are a GREAT way to do this.

GMTA!

That's just what I was saying not too long ago, pick up something edgier in a smaller movie... Perfect thing to do.

I think some TV actors try to go for the big buck blockbusters and fall flat on their faces too many times or sometimes just do stuff for just the money.

Yet, it's the carefully selected parts (which I have a feeling this is) that can make or break a career.

Russell Crowe was very picky after LA Confidential and started doing some rather forgetful stuff out of desperation, he was getting so many **** projects sent to him.

From what James said, Tom has had tons of scripts offered to him but he just didn't like the selection. He only did CBTD because Steve Martin was in it... he shoulda read the script first, but it was probably worth doing a dog for him to meet SM...

From what the producers have said, Wainwright has a great take on the story. Using the Fog like another character is great. I think this has a lot of potential.

I guess onlly time will tell, but it's looking good from the cheap seats!

LOL!

You know, it occurred to me last night that Tom would make a great Captain Marvel. He's drawn by some artists very similiar to Superman and Tom embodies (at least in SV) that look, smile and childlike qualities that Shazaam has.
Marvel ironically is one of the few ppl that can defeat Supe due to his powers being based in magic. How great it would be if he would appear in a Singerman sequel as Marvel kicking Routh's ass ? loool
One can dream can't he ? ;0)

We need our own mod so that he or she can go to bat for us on things like that.

And keep the trolls to a minimum...

I dunno.. sometimes you have to be careful for what you wish for. :)

I think it's just as easy to PM C.Lee when the need for some moderation comes up. I'd hate to get a really heavy-handed mod here, we've been pretty good about not needing constant monitoring. Then again, maybe we are monitored on a regular basis.. I honestly don't know.

I like your new Avatar, btw! ;) :D

If we get someone who spends a lot of time here, like Hulk maybe, it would be good.

That kind of person knows the regulars and maybe wouldn't be so heavy handed but could still keep things in check, like merging threads and warning trolls and spammers.
