Actually, at the time of this film beards were standard in Grecian society.
According to Wikipedia, shaving the beard wasn't poplularized until later...
(Grecian) Men grew beards until Alexander the Great created a vogue for shaving....
FYI
So, the furry face woulda worked for this film and Bloom shoulda been wearing one in Troy, which was set in 1250 BC...
