The Official "Trinity" by Busiek and Bagley Thread

Im enjoying it so far. I want to know whats the deal with John...

Yeah, I don't know what the hell to make of the John situation. Especially since people have seen him go all robo-tastic and no one's even bothered to say, "Hey, maybe John needs to lie down and get that looked at." I mean, really, I understand Firestorm's still fairly new to the fold and all, but he ought to know that people randomly turning into machines is a problem that needs to be addressed. Instead he's just like, "You okay, John? Yeah? Cool, never mind then." What?

I know i keep thinking that...not even red tornado said anything. everyone is just like awesome John can turn into robot and figure out exactly how this machine works. Hell it doesnt even look like John is surprised by it.

It's been in continuity for DC since Busiek wrote it into a JLA Classified arc.
It was in continuity right after it was published. Didn't Syndicate Rules come out right after JLA/Avengers? Syndicate Rules starts with observation of the cosmic egg.

Yeah, I think it came out pretty soon after JLA/Avengers. "Syndicate Rules" was the JLA Classified arc I was talking about.

Trinity #15
Pretty much still enjoying this. Not much else to say. "We've been here for over an hour" was badass, getting a tiny bit overused as a trope nowadays, but badass nonetheless.

I love how everyone is so matter-of-fact in dealing with these big mindbending revelations. Someone will say "These three have been shaped by the fundamental aspects of this universe and are therefore key to unlocking its potential?" and someone else will say "Well that makes sense." Little quirks like that make me love the DCU, I can't deny it. These people didn't just put on costumes and masks yesterday. They've been through it all and anyone like Firestorm and Gangbuster who haven't been through it all are learning about "it all" as they go.

I'm still not very sold on the idea of the big three being this literal keystone to the universe and therefore that's why they're so important or something. It's very similar to the idea that Morrison threw out in Superman: Beyond about Superman being the proemial heroic being, which I loved, but it feels different somehow in this sort of practice. Less organic. As much as I like the meta concepts, organically developed stories and relationships will always trump them. The idea of the big three being justified as big three in the DCU simply because they've grown and developed that close bond with each other will always, always be a stronger concept than the idea of the big three being justified as the big three in the DCU simply because Destiny Says So. There is a big difference, no matter how subtle and imperceptible it may be in the shortterm. This story seems to be favoring the latter approach, which sits awkwardly with me in the longterm no matter how good the story is at the moment.

(8.3 out of 10)

I find it annoying that every issue they have hit the metaphors and destiny angle into our heads... you guys know what I'm talkin about?

I think Hawkman is a badass *****ebag.

This weeks issue was a bust. It had no depth to the actual story.

Do you all just skip over the Niceaza portions or something?

No I read that and i kinda enjoyed it but would have much prefered the book be about its actual title and not focus for 14 pages on the villian of the first 3 issues.

I read Niceiza's portions. I'm a couple weeks behind on Trinity, though.

I've run behind at the moment, I think the last one I read was #15.

Still enjoying it though.

This week's issue was just so disappointing that I can't even put it into words. I am angry that I read it. I'm just...how do you waste an entire comic book explaining a "world-gone-terribly-wrong" premise that shouldn't have needed more than three or four or five pages to explain?

HOW DO YOU PUBLISH A COMIC BOOK WITHOUT A SINGLE ONE OF THE TITLE CHARACTERS MAKING AN APPEARANCE? Unless you're Grant Morrison, you don't get to do that.

Given that it's a weekly comic and the story has been branching out to include other characters for a while now, I don't mind. I'm sure the Trinity will be back next week, and they're still the motivating force for just about all the action in the comic, including the shift to that "world gone terribly wrong" scenario.

This was decompression at its nightmarish worst. This did not need 22 pages to explain. It needed five. I don't know, maybe I'm just in a bad mood, but I paused after five hours of painstaking interview transcription as I enter the middle phase of work on my senior paper, and I pick up Trinity to get my mind out of the ****ter. And what do I get? ****TY ****TY ****.

I didn't really mind at all. As far as this series goes, the issue was actually pretty darn compressed; we find out what's happening with Rita and Jose in this world, they get their bearings, and they move on. And "Freddie" was great. Compared to the four whole weeks fighting Konvikt, this is practically breakneck.

AS did I Corp, and Aristole dude it was fine this week we got to see Alfred be the man.

I continue to read Trinity and love it because Busiek and Niceaza are amongst the increasingly finite amount of DC writers who remember when DC was a functional shared universe and can utilize it without making a big deal out of it (which defeats the purpose, in ways that I can't really explain).

Just in this issue, for instance: random woman Desiree wanders into a random college professor...who is not-so-random Julia Kapatelis, probably the single most significant post-Crisis Wonder Woman cast member around, far moreso than even Steve Trevor. And random woman Desiree's random abusive husband, "Trev"? Apparently he's very possibly Trevor Barnes, probably the only man who ever got to tap that Wonder ass If You Know What I Mean.

The devil is in the details, people. And the details is loving it, that ****ty tramp.
