The Dark Knight Rises The Official "What Do YOU Want in the Sequel?" Thread

Before I state what I'd like to see in the third film. Here's a rough treatment of how I'd like to see in the opening five to 10 minutes :-

The opening shot of the bat logo is important I feel. The one in the first film related to Bruce Wayne becoming the Batman (surrounded by bats, overcoming his fear) hence the swarm of bats. The second was clever in that the one of the Joker's tenets was "everything burns" hence the Bat symbol emerging from a fireball. They're all symbolic of course.

I think the third film should start with a black screen (with those musical drum beats of course), each beats coincides with a 'sonar ripple'. In each ripple a symbol emerges more clearly, it is the bat symbol. The brightness of each sonar intensifies, on the final one it turns into a bright light. The camera then zooms out of this bright light, revealing a bat superimposed on the moon..

*Like a Dog Chasing Cars (The Dark Knight soundtrack) starts to play*

It is momentarily suspended in front of the moon. Then this bat swoops down into the well that leads to the batcave. The bat continues to fly through the batcave, weaving through the natural stone pillars (reminding us of his origin). Other bats join it, then they suddenly shoot out through the waterfall. We then focus back on the same bat, as it flies towards the centre of Gotham. The bat swoops down towards Gotham, it and some of the others perch themselves underneath a motorway bypass. We see the original bat looking down the four-lane motorway. It seems startled and flies off. As it stretches its wings, we alternate with that shot and one of Batman's cape billowing in the wind. The camera then pans along the Batpod, we sees it wheels turning, Batman's cape billowing, the background is out of focus...(as we see this, we only hear the Batpod passing traffic, nothing else)

*Like A Dog Chasing Cars timing 1:43*

We then hear the words of Commissioner Gordon: "Because he's the hero Gotham deserves..so we'll hunt him because he can take it...he's a silent guardian, a watchful protector. A dark knight.". (I purposely truncated his speech)

Just as he ends with "a dark knight"...

Like A Dog Chasing Cars timing 1:52*

We get the 'lights on' sequence with the Batpod and the sounds of the world around it come flooding in. Sirens wail, the roar of the turbo engine from the Batpod charges up. We then see several police vehicles giving chase. Their CB radios abuzz with activity, voices frantically exchanging words. "We're in sight of the vigilante Batman.." "proceed with caution, he is armed and highly dangerous", "he's on a vehicle", "what?!" "I said he's on a vehicle" "make and colour", "I dunno....it's a fast..black..bike!" *loud turbo roar* as the Batpod whizzes past. We see a HUD (heads-up display) on the panel below him. It pulses (like a sonar) showing a direct route to the batcave. "Force him down Willard Avenue...we have a surprise for him there". Commissioner Gordon: "do not shoot the Batman! I want him in a holding cell, not a morgue!"

I'm no scriptwriter but that's the essence of what I had in mind.

I'd like to see a more bulkier Christian Bale. I think he had the right muscle mass for the first film but seemed too slight in the second film.

I'd like to see a batsuit that is not so small. Whilst the first suit wasn't perfect I liked how it gave Christian Bale a more imposing presence. It was described as giving him a more 'animalistic' quality. I like the logic of why he had a new suit but the suit itself didn't work for me. The challenging aspect of designing a new suit is appeasing both the need to be armoured against knives and bullets and the need to be fast and agile without encumbrance. Lindy Hemming may have her work cut out!

I would like the film not to stray from Gotham city. The Bhutan scenes in the first film made sense as Bruce Wayne had to undergo that journey across the world as it were. However, in the second film, taking the action to Hong Kong was not necessary. Perhaps, Christopher Nolan can explore more of Gotham's underbelly. Revisit the Narrows, witness the further decay of Arkham Asylum and see more of Gotham at night.

I think the Black Mask/Roman Sionis would be ideal (from my point of view he is a must as I do not see another suitable villain). I feel he would tie-in well with the theme of identity. Which I see as a possible main theme. I see the Black Mask/Roman Sionis as a perfect mirror to Batman/Bruce Wayne. To me, the Joker was only an opposite to Batman. Ra's al Ghul was more of an extreme version of Batman. In some ways the same as Two-Face.

I'd like to see a new design for the batmobile. I love the Tumbler, I think it was a stroke of genius by both Christopher Nolan (he made a basic clay mould - which was inspired by the cars in Blade Runner; as was the look of Gotham) and Nathan Crowley (production designer). The latter was the one who physically had to design then create the Tumbler. Kudos to him.

I would very much like to see the batboat. Now it would be tempting to make the new batmobile a hybrid vehicle. Although, we're already had the Batpod emerging from the Tumbler. So any thing remotely like that would simply be a repeat.

The score will be important too and I loved the score for both films. The score for The Dark Knight was clever in that it expanded on themes that were very briefly touched upon in the first film. For example, the My Otis track from Batman Begins, timing 3:40-52 (Hong Kong window break-in) and timing 4:04-18 (Harvey Dent theme). Whilst the score is phenomenal, it was nearly absent from the second film and certainly didn't mesh well with the action on screen. The only times I remember the music making an effect was at the beginning with car park scene, the Hong Kong break-in and when Batman jumps off the roof to the Joker's building.

I would like to see Bruce Wayne and Batman for that matter back at Wayne Manor. I would like to see modifications to the "south-east corner".

I'd certainly like to see the batcave in use once more. Which was sorely missing from the second film. Things like the Tumbler and the batcave are extensions of Batman and help form his character. "Mind your surroundings."

I would like to see far more emotional engagement in the third film. Some thing which was at the core of the first film (Bruce Wayne's slain parents and him coping with loss as a boy). The problem with the second film it was overladen with ideas (some clever ones) that got in the way of conveying any emotion. I didn't feel any thing when Bruce Wayne sat there crying about Rachel Dawes and his failure to save Harvey Dent from disfigurement. I didn't either see much of a chemistry between Bruce Wayne and Rachel Dawes.

I would like to see a change in the fighting choreography. I felt it was too slow and seemed staged. At times there was no fluency in the moves. I'd like to see a greater sense of urgency and perhaps more brutal hits. I understand why the fighting was slower as some complained about how the fighting was too quick in the first film (a fair observation but not one with which I agree). Perhaps, an ammalgamation of the two would be ideal? I believe it was the Keysi fighting method.

Finally, I'd like the third film to focus on Bruce Wayne/Batman. His inner turmoil, angst, depression and perhaps nearing breaking point? I thought the second film lost focus on Bruce Wayne/Batman and so made him a less interesting character. I would also like to see how Commissioner Gordon finds leading a hunt for Batman whilst knowing he is innocent, this will surely press on his conscience.

Yes a hydrofoil would be a good idea. Especially when the afterburner fires up and the fins extend outwards.

ive been seeing the commercils for them up in the tri cities, never actually see them race though, but apache helocopter engines, batman, tight spaces and fast speeds=awesome boat

God damn, i wish people were writing the ideas they want to see on film, rather than the entire script with music and dialogue. For ****'s sake that was a wall of words!

I feel that the opening needs to reflect Gotham's reaction to Joker's verdict. The Riddler's narcissism is also crucial in his superior feeling over others and his desire for fame.

My opening would follow this sequence:

The drumming from the opening of The Dark Knight fades into an initially black screen. Suddenly, a distant white light, like the opening to a tunnel fades in. The echoing sound of a screeching bat comes flying out of the white light and blocks our view, then returning us to a second of darkness. The title lettering spells "Gotham Guardian," and the show begins.

Misty mid morning in Gotham fades into sight. A media circus sits eerily silent outside of the Gotham courthouse. News vans focus cameras to overly dressed or anxious reporters waiting for the cue to go live. Protesters with severely enraged expressions hold picket signs as much as their breathe. Police barricades block the concrete steps to the building. A "T" shape fills from the glass revolving door at the front to more barricades at the flat street bottom. Policemen with automatics in hand wait inside an armored van with the words "Gotham Correctional Services" for the man of the hour. Their brothers wait in the "T" and have cleared the street for him as well.

Fans in the bleachers around the "T" have portable radios, iPods and laptops trying to listen for their war call if they do not hear the right news. It's judgment day for them. The one that brings out one beast or another.

A yellow cab awkwardly pulls up next to the prisoner's limo. An older man wearing thick glasses popular when Kennedy was president and a derby that's even older steps out and glides up the "T."

Men and women of all standings in the city, sit and whisper amongst themselves until the moment of truth. They do not care about the cab's mysterious passenger, and he never casts a glimpse at his inferiors in return. Apparently, he's correct; his mind's mindless don't even cast a glimpse at this E. Nigma, private investigator assigned to uncover the riddle behind the clown's captor.

"He's been acquitted!" an anonymous voice shouts. The crowd's venom spews. Men and women jump into Gotham PD's shields. This tsunami drowns the officers and floods into the "T." News personnel also leap towards the engulfment of hatred and anger; only to get inside of it for views on the outside, while drowning victims of their own. All the drivers of the armored car can do is stare and lock the doors as they can only await the wave's impact.

At the top, Edward smirks while marching before the invasion of Gotham's new justice system also headed into the courts. "Time for the flying fox hunt." Is all he mutters now confident in his soldiers.

Okay, so this isn't exactly the direction I would want the 3rd one to go in, but I had finished watching Batman: Mask Of The Phantasm and had fun with this...

*note that I am not not responsible for the manips, and can I take credit for them. I simply used them as comparison pics*

I really like what you've done. Could be nice to see live action if Nolan was interested

Actual bats to be used.

Begins had bats used in several scenes. (The opening title, Bruce's nightmare, Arkham, the play, one got inside of the mansion, Bruce standing amidst a millions Bats in the Batcave, Rachel awaking in the batcave to see a few bats flying above her)

TDK featured zero bats, which was strange considering it is a BATMAN movie.

I'd like the end scene to feature a horde of bats used in some fashion. Maybe used to defeat a villain, knocking him off a ledge or something. The last thing the villain would sees as he falls to his death is Batman amidst a million bats)

I dunno how they should be used, just give me more bats.

Right, because bats must appear in a film for it to be a Batman story.

Well, he is Batman. The coolest scenes in BB all featured bats used in some fashion. It adds to the theatericality of the character.

It may be cool and fit the theme, but as an essential? Come on now. There have been countless great Batman stories that don't feature any literal bats.

It was? Nolan seemed to had forgotten that fact.
You could not be more wrong.

or m aybe jsut the final fight batman lets loose a swarm of bats and then beats the crap out of them amidst the bats

Let me see, non character wise:
1. Rebuilt Wayne Manor - I'd love to see this again.
2. Updated Batcave, with computer, floor and other areas.
3. Bats, not essential, but I'd love to see the Bat attracting device from the first film, or just bats in the cave.
4. Batarangs, disappointed they weren't in TDK, I'd love to see them again.
5. Graveyard scene.
6. New Batmobile.
7. New suit with elements of grey in it. It would have the functionality of the TDK suit without looking as annoyingly busy and it would have a more prominent Batsymbol.
8. Finally, I want to see the Narrows again as well as more of Gotham's grittier and uglier spots.

Rebuild Wayne Mansion, Updated Batcave, New Batmobile, Grappler and Batarangs, and ohh yahh, The Riddler.

1.The Joker to return in more than a cameo- With it being Nolan's last bat movie, Batman's greatest enemy should not just be swept under the carpet.

2. Harley Quinn- With the Joker presumedly in Arkham, it would be perfect timing to introduce Harley to the Nolanverse. Plus introducing her would make sense rather than being randomly thrown in.

3. A scene where Bruce visits his parents and Rachel's graves.

4. Vicki Vale as the "love" interest- She should be more of a rebound relationship for Bruce rather than a proper love interest. It would seem a bit off for Batman to be in true love with Catwoman for one movie when the supposed love of his life died in the previous film.

5. Catwoman cameo- towards the end of the film to hint that Bruce is beginning to move on with his life.

Simply put, Nolan needs to leave Batman as close as possible to his most recognizable form, with the knowledge that now, his mission is infinite, that there's no escape from it, and no longer is he searching for a way out of it.

That means everything most of you are saying, bringing back Wayne Manor & the cave, redesigning the tumbler & the suit, delving back into the Narrows or whatever wretched part of Gotham we haven't seen yet. Basically establishing Batman as the Caped Crusader we expect him to be throughout his career and into his future. He's learned what he needed to learn, he's seen the worst Gotham has to offer, now he needs to be fully formed & prepared at the end of this trilogy to become The Dark Knight detective.

Nolan needs to return Batman to being a symbol, to being more of a legend. Also it is very possible that I am completely alone in this, but I definitely don't want Viki Vale as the love interest in the next movie. She just never did it for me.

Exactly. This is why I keep suggesting Gotham Legend as a title for the third film.

Also it is very possible that I am completely alone in this, but I definitely don't want Viki Vale as the love interest in the next movie. She just never did it for me.

She's not a love interest in the same way Rachel was a love interest.

My idea is that Bruce Wayne is avoiding dealing with the death of Rachel. He throws himself into his role as Batman, being more aggressive and brutal than he would normally be. This leads him to begin making little mistakes, something which the next villain could take advantage of. Alfred is growing concerned over Bruce's reckless behaviour. Bruce tries to prove to Alfred that he is fine and begins dating Vicki Vale, who it turns out is doing a newspaper article on Batman. Vicki also seems to have some personality characteristics similar to Rachel, something which Alfred picks up on. Bruce takes Vicki out on dates and they do what normal couples expect to do although there is no feeling behind it on Bruce's part. Alfred disapproves of Bruce using Vicki the way that he is and feels that it is necessary to reveal the contents of Rachel's letter. Vicki becomes increasingly aware of Bruce's detachment to the given situation over the course of the movie and eventually calls him out about his feelings. Vicki and Bruce break up and Bruce begins to deal with Rachel's death. Bruce then visits his parents and Rachel's graves. A few days later, Bruce throws a fundraiser to celebrate the creation of the Thomas and Martha Wayne Foundation Trust, a charity in memory of his parents which helps provide money to improve the disadvantaged areas of Gotham. Vicki attends the fundraiser as she is covering the event for the newspaper. She wishes Bruce well for the future and hopes that he finds someone who can make him happy. Bruce then talks to some other fundraiser guests including a woman named Selina Kyle.

The batcave.
A new suit.
New batmobile.
And I would really like to see white eyes return again, thermal vision, night vision, and sonar(but not the cellphone sonar, he has a powerfull sonar device built into his suit, like the sonar in splinter cell conviction, it only sonars so far away).

Also I would love to see the batpod v2.

If were gonna do one more why not go all out.

Also they need to get a better fight coreography, may I recommend the guy that worked on universal soldier regeneration.
