Days of Future Past The official X-men First Class BD/DVD thread

Hmmm, How long does the Kmart 19.99 sale on this blu go for? is it over, or is it while supplies last?

so generally stores keep the initial sale prices for one week after a movie has been released (tues til monday night). is that still the case with this movie? im thinking im gonna go to target today or tomorrow and just buy the bluray combo pack and a) hope for the best and maybe third time will be the charm or b) be greatful i have a dvd copy as a backup.

not this time. it seems like all the stores (walmart, kmart, target) released the movie on friday (strange) and the sale price was up to saturday night.

bestbuy has it for a week, (at least past the two days). i thnk they tried to play us this time.

So, I just got the DVD... and, I'm a little confused. Where's all the extra stuff? I mean, it's got Children of the Atom on here, but... Didn't I hear talk about 14 minutes or so worth of deleted scenes? where are they??

im pretty sure all the special features are only on the bluray. i havent seen ads or heard talk about a 2-disc dvd for this movie. come to think of it i dont think ive seen a 2-disc dvd since like iron man 2, could be wrong though.

I can live with a longer load time...I'm going to watch it again to make sure (like I need an excuse to watch :yay:)...again hasn't freezed/jumped yet, if I notice that I'll consider maybe picking up another copy...any issues with the DVD version or just blu?

They didn't give an estimate of how much $$$ it made or how many units it approximately sold. That means it likely isn't doing good. Fox has always trumpeted the DVD/Blu-ray sales of its movies if they do well. They have done with all x-men flicks. This time they haven't.

I wouldn't be surprised. It feels like nothing for this movie goes the way it should.

i think it's getting a sequel the people at Fox are just keeping quiet about it

If this movie doesn't get a sequel, I'll survive. A 5 movie series is a pretty good run (soon to be 6 with The Wolverine)

That said, there is definitely room for them to expand the First Class universe, as there's plenty of things to fill in between X-Men: First Class and X-Men.

There's no holes, I don't think a sequel is -needed-, but there's certainly enough room for it.

Lame. What's even more lame is the slide of the DVD packaging, that hides the back where the lack of special features are listed. I've been waiting for months, reading about all the SF listed when this film was coming out. I guess I never read the part where they said it was only going to be on the bluray version.

I guess this is going to be the new attempt to get people to switch to bluray. But, I'll pass. My entire years of collecting movies is largely made up of VHS and DVD, and DVD is only in the last few years of the decade... I'm not going to go out and start re-collecting now.

Not necessarily. THR got their chart from the Nielsen VideoScan First Alert sales chart, which doesn't release figures. First Class will have been released one week today, so we can expect numbers to be released soon. Fox wouldn't release 3-day sales figures unless it breaks records.

You don't have to re-collect though, you just start buying movies in blu-ray. Like if you own the X-Men trilogy, there's no point in going out and buying it again in bluray. I have an extensive DVD collection and recently got a BR player. As a filmmaker I reeeeeally see the difference in quality so I will be upgrading a few of my DVDs that have a lot of action or CGI sequences. But things like comedies or dramas really don't need hi-def anyway.

i was the same way, i wasnt about to move up to blurays; didnt see the point. but one day out of curiosity (and the need to play the God of War III demo packaged with the movie) i bought the District 9 blu ray and i couldnt deny the difference in quality. im gonna admit it was difficult for me to break my DVD collection but i got over it, and i dont feel the urge to double dip my collection. ive only re-bought The Dark Knight and Casino Royale (my favorite movies) and im fine with that. dvds still look good.

i bought the target bluray/dvd combo pack and i started watching it late last night. i wasnt able to get very far but the two places where the picture froze on my last two discs played fine with this one. i have to watch it in its entirety to know im safe because i always noticed it'll happen once in the beginning, nothing for a while, but then gradually it happens more frequently as it reaches the end.no clue if dvds have this same issue.

oh and in case people with the same issue were wondering, Fox's official stance is there's nothing wrong with their blurays. I called. :cmad:

No, all it means is that they didn't give an estimate. Your interpretation is typically negative.

Don't say that, we gotta keep hoping this movie does well so we can get a sequel...

Oh, believe me, I'm hoping. I'm just frustrated that this movie hasn't done better financially than what it has.

i think it's getting a sequel the people at Fox are just keeping quiet about it

Oh please let this be true.

Nothing is wrong with mine, but I have a Canadian copy. It works fine on both PS3 and my BR player, though it takes a little time to load at first.

Ya mine has a problem with the picture freezing, I guess ill have to exchange it or wipe it off and see if anything changes.

And I only double dip on films that I absolutley enjoy and if its a good price. Other than that ill just stick to dvd if I already have it. But X-men, double dipped espically since mine are so old they cant play properly anymore.

Emma Is In her twenties In first Class.Yet In Wolverine set In late 70's or early 1980's she Is now a teenager?

My advice Is you want to view all the films together Is do what I did this week. When you
watch films use chapter selection and fashforwarding to create you own fanedited viewing of wolverine and Last Stand that can allow you to watch them with other films. As far as I am concerned about emma In wolverine that Is Silverfox's sister not Emma frost.I flashforward all the scenes In finale with just the mutants when wolverine Is fightining
Weapon x.I start watching when wolverine Is with Silverfox. Thus Deadpool was never In
wolverine. At end It's weapon XI not deadpool he Is fighting.

X-Men First Class ignored alot of what came before... and that's a good thing.

I'm wondering if some of you are having an issue with the refresh rate. I've seen that happen before.

For those with PS3s, before worrying about the disks or anything else I would go to Video Settings and turn 'BD 1080p 24Hz output (HDMI)' Off. On the PS3 at least it defaults to Auto which will sometime mess up and output in the wrong format.

The change will be instantaneous so you will know right away if that's the problem.

Here are a couple of articles on this explaining some more:
