While I don't enjoy seeing Clark/Superman with constant self doubt and I agree with you that he should be the pinnacle of what a good man should be the reasoning behind this shouldn't be his desire to just "fit in with humanity" angle. Thats what's made the character really "boring" or out of character with comic book and Superman fans alike I believe in recent years.

Rather I'd like it if Snyder makes it clear that the reason why he is so "perfect" which everyone seems to dislike around here is because he isn't from this planet, its often forgotten but he isn't human folks. The reason why he is able to uphold all the ideals that humans created but so often break is because of whatever is already hardwired into his species. As a whole Kryptonians demonstrated a deep reverence to science and logic which is clear in their culture.

That would be the greatest point to reinforce throughout the film. On how an alien can be a far better example of what a human can be than even a human could ever dream of being.

Thats where he gets his confidence and decisiveness. I don't want to see a depressed Superman full of self doubt at every corner or getting his ass kicked repeatedly to the point that he just doesn't seem so "Super" anymore.

Just wanted to say, that i'm usually more for pushing his 'human' side, but the way you just described that sounds like the perfect balance of both.

Just to pick nits here, but wasn't it the absolute devotion to logic and science that led the Kryptonians to the arrogance of believing that they could withstand any disaster, thus meaning they ignored Jor-El, thus meaning Krypton went boom?

You can emphasize his Kryptonian heritage all you want, but the fact remains that it is a species that doomed itself through unprecedented arrogance in pretty much every origin story ever told of it save Earth One. If anything, you should show that Krypton gave Superman the ability to think with his head, but his Earth upbringing gave Clark the ability to think with his heart. Or his gut. Or some other non-brain organ.

His morals come from both his human upbringing and his Kryptonian heritage. The Science Council may have been too full of themselves to believe Jor-El, but that doesn't mean they were all so arrogant...certainly Jor-El himself wasn't. The cold logic and science was only in the Byrne version, most other versions have Krypton as a Utopia...a Utopia that was TOO perfect.

Just read Snyder's interview in the December issue of the German "Empire" magazine. It must be the same one with the UK/US version, where he talks about his meeting with Nolan, and how they discussed their ideas about Superman.

He even makes a comparison with Dr. Manhattan, saying how he already made a "Superman" and how much fun he's gonna have with this "blue guy" too. Then I kept thinking about how Snyder keeps talking about Goyer's script and how different a Superman movie can be, while staying faithful to the comics... and then I made a terrible thought...

While unpopular with fans and the general audience, it is still considered canon. It is a different take on Superman. What if Goyer and Johan Nolan thought they could do better with this concept? Also, remember the rumors about Superman being CGI and all...

I only hope they are trying to create an air of mystery around the project. I just want a great Superman movie with the hero in the suit we all love and know. Not some J.J. Abrams/Jon Peters alternative version... *shudders*

Lol, no way that would happen....That said,*IF* it did, it could end up being right there with B&R. There are not many films that I haven't given a chance..that electric blue superman would be one of them tho lol.

Snyder, and WB, would have to be extremely dumb to do the whole Blue/Red Superman on film................

but then..........this is WB we're talking about.............

OMFG! I'd give my middle testicle to see the look on every fanboy's face if this came to be.

:lmao:

middle? u have three? lol...ya freak.

sooo...........when do you think we'll start hearing some more news about this film??

LOL, they're never gonna do that...."Electric Superman" was just wrong. I do admit though, back in the day I thought he looked kewl, and bought the action figure :o

So... filming will start on August 22 in Vancouver.

Ha!

I wouldn't be worried about it. They're referring to the fact that most people (non comic fans) are only familiar with the Donner version of the character. They're going to do exactly what they did with Batman Begins and take elements from popular GNs to do something "different" that we haven't seen on screen (but maybe in pages of a comic book) before.

If anything but a faithful Superman costume is chosen for this movie I'm not watching it, and I mean that. I'm not giving my money to go see something that resembles the Superman suit. It's bad enough that people like Hammer that look nothing like superman are such strong contenders for this part, and any kind of changes in the suit that deviates from the traditional suit, then **** the movie, I ain't watching it. I wanna see the superman suit, not something that kinda looks like it.

I kinda feel like this about all the comicbook movies

I have no attachment to other comic book characters. I didn't care about how the batman suit looked in Begins, I didn't care about the changes in TDN, or the x-men suits and I don't give a rats ass about the new Siderman suit, even though I do feel it isn't as faithful as it could've been. But Superman, now that's a different story alltogether The Superman costume is iconic, any slight of change in it, and it's unacceptable. Period. That's just how it is, Superman is superman, when I walk into that theatre, I wanna see the suit from the comics with updated materials and that's the extent of the changes with I'm willing to accept. If they remove the trunks, I ain't watching it, if they remove the belt, I ain't watching it, if they decide to add any kind of fancy stripes, or different tones of blue or any kind of these atrocious changes, the movie is as good as dead to me.
I never thought I'd say this, but I'm starting to feel the SR costume might end up looking absolutely fantastic compared to what we MIGHT get.
I gotta be honest, this costume stuff scares me.

IMVHO, If they created some reimagined suit they would be treading on thin ice with not only the fans, but the general public as well..In the media or out in the public, whenever an image of superman is shown, it's always of him in the familiar red and blue. The public may not know his whole story, but they know what he's supposed to look like.

Small changes here and there I can accept, but not something that if not for the \S/ on his chest, I wouldn't recognize him as superman.

You do realize there are 70 years of books, several live action TV shows, several animated TV shows, five movies, two film serials, and hundreds of toys featuring the classic suit. It's not like any minor deviations mean that you'll never see the classic suit ever again.

Im fully aware, however, this is probably the first time we'll ever see Superman done in such a spectacular way as never seen before, and I would truly despise if that was taken away from me because they decided to **** with the suit for the sake of "updating" it. Changes for the sake of change is always a bad idea.

why screw with a good thing

They all mean 'Ridiculous Superman' because back then Superman was blowing out suns with sneezes and rotating Earth backwards to reverse time. I think it's fair to label pre-Byrne Supes interchangeably like that.

since when did fair = utterly ******ed???

the suit defiantly needs a change somewhat you can stay faithful but also make it feel new and fresh

I think we'll be getting something like the new Spidey suit. Different from both Reeve and Routh suits, but still very much Superman.

Superman's costume doesn't need changes, it's perfectly fine just the way it is.
They can change his surroundings, his villains if they want to, but never , ever the man himself or his suit.
