Yeah, the extortionists are out in force once a big club becomes interested in a player. One of the most ridculous proposals I saw a few seasons ago was when we were interested in Jermaine Jenas who was still at Newcastle. They demanded Sol Campbell plus £15m. He later went to Tottenham for £8m. Absolutely stupid, and a lucky escape, IMO.

Happens all the time & it is happening more & more. With the Ronaldo/Kaka transfer fees & with Manchester City in the market willing to pay moronic amounts of money for average players every club is at it.

Lescott for £22m :lmao:, James Milner £18m + Ireland :lmao:, Aleksandar Kolarov £19m :lmao:, Roque Santa Cruz £18m :lmao:.. etc

That isn't even taking into account the huge wages they are playing some players just to lure them to what is in all essence still a small club in terms of history & worldwide recognition IMO.

I could list a million players names who have had absolutely ridiculous price tags slapped on them simply because a big club is sniffing round them..

Agreed. City have shot themselves in the foot though, in the sense that due to those OTT wages, they are unable to get rid of players.

but the financial rules in 2014 (takes past 3 years into account s from next season on) will change that or they wont compete in europe

dont doubt that for a second mate - looks like us united and arsenal would be fine

ive heard rumorus spurs could be in the ****ter if thay dont get champs league next year

Mertesacker has already come out and denied he will be leaving Bremen in January. Not too keen on Upson or Spahic. Wouldn't mind Cahill, but can't see it happening taking the required price into context. Though they do want Vela on loan, plus Wenger and Coyle have a good relationship I believe. Bolton are also in the process of signing David Wheater from Middlesbrough, with some believing it's as a replacement for Cahill.

I always assumed they were in good nick, they have a cap on their wage bill and when you take into account the fees they've gotten for the likes of Berba and Keane (x2 ) they have spent reasonably within their means. Then again, they've paid some embarassingly big fees for the likes of Bentley and Bent.

Anyway, if we pay £12.5m for Corluka, I swear to jesus.............

well from what I have heard is that they were spending above their means and need to make champions league at least next year - dont forget they bought keane back for 17mil so only made 3mil on him in the end

Ah, well, I won't lie, it'd be hilarious to see Redknapp send yet another club into massive problems. :oldrazz:

People keep giving Spurs credit for the progression they've made. However, they have spent quite a lot to get there, which often goes unnoticed.

Speaking of Spurs.... it's been revealed tonight that, if they get the go ahead to operate out of the Olympic stadium after 2012... they're going to demolish most of it and rebuild it into a football only stadium....

Seems like a waste to me...

they shouldnt get it then based on that info (if its true) give it to someone who will actually use it!

Heh...How much do you want to bet it ends up resembling the Emirates stadium? :o :oldrazz:

So essentially, they just want the land.

F***ing disgusting! Well done to Ipswich! I hope they embarass us at the Emirates, so Wenger can ever buck up his ideas or F*** off. Enough is enough...

Poor result for Arsenal tonight, they put out a strong enough side as well.. I'd be shocked if they didn't overturn this at the Emirates, but still..

I almost don't want us too. This group of players bar a few are absolute dross. The can't handle praise nor pressure, and have the mentality of timid mice. They don't deserve to win.

After the Chelski drubbing.... i'm surprised Arsenal lost tonight...

Though i'm not shocked Liverpool went down to Blackpool.... this season is going to be REALLY bad for them... and i can't work out WHY...

Specualtion was saying they threw the Chelsea match so to speak, as they didn't see themselves going far in the FA cup, and that all their attentions were on this one.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger: "With playing so many games you could see tonight that we had no spark. Ipswich were sharper and we made a mistake which they took advantage of. The good thing is that we play at home in the second leg and that can make a difference. We will not always be as lacking in creativity as we were tonight."

Arsenal need to stick the hand in the pocket & get a few somewhat proven players to try & take them to the next level. They've gradually fallen behind the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea, probably Manchester City soon & are in danger of being left in Tottenham's rise to the top..

This buying unknown players & trying to turn them into stars isn't working, flip sake Fabregas has just started to shine in an Arsenal shirt in recent seasons & he had his head turned in the summer.. I'd be surprised if he isn't a Barcelona player inside the next 3 years, really surprised.

Arsene Wenger is a talented manager but in all truth this transfer/squad policy isn't working for them.. they really need to spend abit of money so they don't get left in the dust.

I could have told you that Roy Hodgson wasn't the main problem with Liverpool, infact I did tell a few of my friends that are Liverpool fans.. but heck what do I know I'm just a Manchester United fan, when I say that team is full of average & below average players (bar Gerrard, Reina & Torres) I'm just saying that because I'm a United fan according to them.. :whatever: :D

Liverpool are in serious trouble I feel, they are in real danger of getting dragged into a relegation battle based on this seasons form.. & at this rate I can't for the life of me see them making the Europa League.. if that happens you'd instantly fear for some of their key players future.. especally with Manchester City sniffing around with idiot money & a some costs that will probably have to be cut if they don't get that European TV money..

Oh Arsenal. They can still win it at home but c'mon, you're so close to a 1st trophy in ages with all the big guns out. Time to start delivering!
