re: Scott and Jean in the comics ....

Jean's telepathy exploded prematurely when she was ten and witnessed the death of her best friend, Annie Richardson. Xavier helped her regain control. She did NOT, however, come to the mansion at that time. She was, in fact, the last of the original five to arrive (and her arrival is depicted in X-Men #1). Xavier knew of her for some time, but Scott was the first to arrive at the mansion, when he was ... 15, I think it was. Scott's origin story is very confusing, since it's been told in slightly different ways across time, and the age at which he was orphaned varies. Sometimes it's 8, sometimes it's 12. The exact nature of how he was discovered by Xavier varies, too, and whether Jack o'Diamonds figures in, and any time on the street (as a pool hustler and petty thief, et al.). In the earliest versions, that wasn't the case, but they "darkened up" his past as time went on. Even Summers' family history is confused, as Claremont's original "minis" at the backs of issues gave a slightly different dating than the much later "The Further Adventures of Cyclops and Phoenix."

So depending on what one's read, and when, Scott's backstory is a bit different. And none of that jives very well with the backstory given in the novelization of X1 (which conflicts, again, with the origin referred to by Claremont in the novelization of X2 ... the more standard comic one, unsurprisingly). In short, it's not at ALL clear, at this point, whether or not film-Scott is an orphan (unless that's specified in the X2 film).

Incidently, orphanages haven't existed since the 1970s, so if his story were to be modernized, one would have to change the "orphanage" background to foster homes. (the original comics appeared in the '60s, remember).

That's interesting. Didn't know that (I'm not in the US).

"I"m so happppy to have a thread all about me!" *smile*

  look at that smile!!! ahhh!!! *faints*:D :cyclops:

ps. Minisinoo, your fic "An Accidental Interception of Fate" is amazing!! :D

Here's what James Marsden said re: X3 over at MTV.com:

Marsden agreed. "I think if it's 'X3' and it's the same kind of nice chemistry that we've got going since the first movie with the cast and Bryan Singer, if those fall into place, then I'd be much more obliged to be a part of it. But I think it's inevitable."

Man were going into some deep thoughts here aren't we? :D

Let's see what are Jean's choices again:
1. :wolverine
2. :cyclops:
Decisions, decisions.....

I personally like the idea of wolvie and Jean together in the movie version of dark pheonix.

That way, we can all fight over Cyclops. :D :p

Yes , I agree with you but , I'm so sorry to say that she chose :cyclops: ... and not :wolverine ...

I can say that she has a good taste on men ... and I aprove it ...

Dany

I mean , in the cartoon and in the comics book ... in the movie you will see it ...

Dany

believe me i would love to have some Cyke...but he's Jean's has been from day 1

that's what i've always loved about them, that no mattter what they're always there for eachother, through Phoenix Force or a merge with Apocolaypse(i can't spell)

go out and get the Dark Phoenix Saga in trade paperback, there's so much of what Jean and Scott are together in that

If you girls (or anybody else?) like mr. Marsden, you should see that mafia mini-series he played in a few years ago. It's really good. If you haven't already. He plays a very different guy there, and there's room for actual acting.

I would see it , but in Brazil thsi series aren't passing right now and I don't know if will pass ... and we don't have this series in Blockbuster ...

I agree Phoenix II ... and we can see it on cartoon too ... in the last two parts of Dark Phoenix Saga ...

Dany

YES!

....sorry danny, didn't mean to jump in and answer that question ...but I couldn't help myself :)

Hey Grey Fyre, since you've seen the movie, can you estimate if Scott had more screentime (time, not scenes) than he did in X1?

Is he still around more than in X1?

Good Morning.
I can't believe this thread is still alive and kicking! But I have something else to say:

IT'S HERE! IT'S HERE! IT'S FINALLY HERE!

I KNOW!!!! :D :D :D

It's still 8 ½ hours away, I really can't wait!! I had a dream last night that I was sitting at the theater, then saw the Fox logo, popped and turned into a popcorn. Seriously. :D :D

You were drunk though, so you can be forgiven. When I was last drunk, I dreamt I was playing Emma in Friends!

Sorry, I'm not a girl but I can answer your quesion Liz. :)

He has more screen time and more action in X1, but like I said on the other thread he dominates his fewer scenes in X2. A comparison with Storm: she has much more screen time and action, but no more character development than X1 ( a couple of philosophical converstaions with Nightcrawler). Whereas through the events we revealed on the other thread, we get to see a lot more of Scott's character.

I'm a little PO'd that he only blasts briefly in 2 scenes though..

Thanks! :)

He doesn't use the blast much in the Jean/Scott scene other than the once we've seen?

Yes he blasts a couple of times in that scene like we see in the trailer. But it's very brief. The only other time in when
he is attacked by Deathstrike in the prison. He blasts her and one other guard before he's overcome (I still dont understand why she wasn't flattened by it).

It's okay Grey Fire ... but I have to complain about one thing : Jean and Scott kiss is just normal , but nher kiss with Logan is quite abrasing ... why ??? Her and Scott are engaged for God's sake ...

Not so much ... I think that they cut a lot this fight ... for me it was cool and Jean was worried about him , but I think that should have a few more seconds ... but I like it ...

But Jimmy rocks in the end ... I almost cried ... :(

Dany

Hey I'm just happy some affection was shown, as compared to X1 :D

I hoping that in X3
there'll be a nice little reunion between Scott and Jean ... I'm thinking that's got to be more passionate especially considering how devastated Scott is in X2 and Jean know and understand that ....provided of course Jean is just normal phoenix at the beginning
;)

I suppose the way I've see it, in X2 there wasn't the reason for any passionate kissing between them ala the Jean-Wolvie kiss in the trailers. They've known each other most of their lives, and their engaged and usually around the kids so they probably wouldn't see it as being appropriate. BUt as you say their engaged that's why I was pi$$ed that there was no interaction between them in X1 because if you are then there should be evidence of it like bodily contact, a gentle brief goodbye kiss (like was shown in X2) etc.
So at the moment I'm happy they made their relationship more realistic than in X1. Well actually, really in X1 there was no relationship, really. Though more would be nice, ofcourse. Especially given the Wolvie-Jean interaction....

5 hours to go and I can't stop myself from highlighting!! Aargh!! :( :D :p
