So I'm watching The Social Network right now, and something confuses me.

When they find out that Facebook is expanding to Stanford, Cameron asks ''Why Standford?'', to which Div says ''Why do you think?''

I feel like an idiot. What's the reason?

I just figured it was because it's one of those prestigious schools.

I still figured it was because of the fact that it may get recognition down there. HE was trying to get stuff in New York, but I think he scoffed at Parker just because he did not like him. I think if he had opportunities to get into Silicon Valley he would take it. It was my interpretation of that, because it is in the heart of the tech world. And to me I just saw it that way.

I think that's probably how it went down in real life, no doubt. The portrayal of Eduardo was probably exaggerated.

yea but im watching the Oscar post show and they just annouced Christian Bale, Jaiver Bardem and Amy Adams filming a movie together so idk if its for another movie or the previous Drug lord movie...

TSN is about people who got screwed out of a deal because of someone's selfishness, and need to fit in...it's not about the generation...

That's what I got out of it.

I didn't say it defined a generation. But it certainly explored it and came up with an interesting film about the Digital Generation that is usually ignored right now.

Yes, on one level it is a tale as old of time about the evils of capitalism and ambition ruining friendships and relationships. However, the way these people talk and operate is also the DNA they put into their invention that changed the world. So in some ways they are a reflection of us as their device defines the Internet for half a billion people. It explores who they are and raises the question of what impact it has had on their creation as we know the obvious impact it has had on the world.

And in any case it is a more intricate, challenging and innovative film than almost any this year (I would give the exception to Inception. Though I can understand those who would prefer something like Black Swan or Winter's Bone as well). The King's Speech was a middle brow, dime a dozen period drama with an uplifting story of a famous person with a disability overcoming odds. It's nice and all but there is nothing in it to linger with audiences. It's a warm and fuzzy bait-ish film. the way Sorkin crafted the screenplay for TSN and the way Fincher shot it challenged the audience to keep up and took a generic synopsis (biopic about rich people ****ing each other over) and made something unique and haunting about it. Plus culturally relevant.

That is why it is the better movie. You need to get past that Rolling Stone article quote.

It's a Terrence Malick movie...I believe it's Bale Bardem and Rachel McAdams though. He's currently filming 13 Woman of Nanjing then onto Batman, so the Malick movie is down the road.

Considering he's the one who WANTED to do it, and asked Hathaway to do it with him, I kinda think he's a huge dick for not only showing zero interest, but leaving her hanging 90% of the show.

My respect for him kinda went down a bit tonight.

Liked the personalities I got to see especially some of the lesser known winners. Jewish kid in need of haircut was awesome.

I find it rather amusing that The Social Network, a film once destined to rule the awards season, got lost in the shuffle. The King's Speech was the big winner. Inception matched the number of trophies thanks to the technical categories. And, Alice in Wonderland (like other Tim Burton movies) was the toast of the art department. The Social Network basically picked up the scraps (music, editing, and original script).

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm assuming you're referring to Daniel Day-Lewis in Spielberg's Abraham Lincoln film.

That comes out in 2012, not this year. So if he's nominated, it'll be for the 85th Academy Awards (held in 2013).
