Curious. I'd play the REmake on a next gen console, but I'd rather they did something else. The REmake still holds up on the GC just fine.

I'm still amazed that the REmake was on GameCube.

Why? Nintendo had a development deal with Capcom which is why the system got so many exclusive RE games (well until Capcom went and ported 4 over)

Because it still looks better to me than a lot of current gen games.

Agreed. I think Capcom is out of ideas tho. It's time they just revisit the stuff that worked

All their trully skilled and talented people left them, except one person and he did revelations . get rid of all the people i chare ther but him a make sure he's in charge and hires taleted people again. problem solved

I wonder what we'll get? :hmm

Ducking and diving around the mansion's corridors?
Lobbing grenades and firing ricket launchers that do physical damage to the area around you?
Lack of puzzles?
Zombies with knives and guns?
Barry following Jill around, Rebecca following Chris around everywhere?
Sprinting through the tiny claustrophobic corridors?
Action, action and more action?

I look forward to all of that :)

I had hope for Capcom again after Dead Rising 2, I haven't played DR3 yet but I hate that it's become an arcade beat'em up in a way.

Has this "insider" had actual predictions come true in the past, or is it just a random dude on the net? Seems like there was another "insider" not too long ago promising that RE7 was coming soon, maybe even by the year's end.

I really just have a hard time believing they plan to abandon the current gameplay style completely. RE was fairly popular before RE4, but the explosion the series saw sales-wise came from RE4 and that continued type of gameplay through RE5/6 (and the fixed camera angle and tank control thing was on it's way out as early as RE3). Sounds a little too much like someone just telling a vocal internet minority exactly what they want to hear to me. I could see something maybe with a slower pace or something, but I'll be surprised if the game is some kind of true returning to the roots of the series.

yeah there's always an insider we'll just have to wait and see what happens . And 5 strayed way from 4 they didn't fallow or keep much of anything. They went their own way & dropped what was done before 5 they just went nuts all cause most of their talent left and kept leaving during that time.

Okay, so, at the risk of totally putting my foot in my mouth, it seems that could have been in reference to a HD remaster (not a reboot) that has just popped up via Famitsu. And it seems to be real. Here's the scan, not sure on platforms, yet.

EDIT: Seems there's another Japanese website that's listing this as for PS3/PS4/360/Xbone/PC. Interesting to note there's no Wii U version mentioned. It was speculated for a long time that Nintendo had a lock on REMake and Zero since they have, until now, never left a Nintendo console (there was even a rumor that Zero was created specfically to fill the contract with Nintendo, so they'd be free to do whatever they wished with porting RE4). So, this means there never was a lock or the deal has expired. Which makes me wonder if we'll see a Zero HD port at some point. It was solid.

it'll be lame if its just the Wii U. Remake remains the only Nintendo RE game that has not yet been ported to other platforms

Yeah, Zero wasn't really great. It also had the misfortune of being released between REMake and RE4, two of the most acclaimed games in the series. But it's still alright.

Also, it seems the article mentions a November release. Just to note, this is just a HD remaster of REMake, this is not a reboot. Some people elsewhere have gotten this mixed up it seems.

Some more details from translators

PS3 and 360 come out on Nov 27 in Japan. 720p. PS4, XB1, and PC are slated for "early 2015". PS4 and XB1 are 1080p, PC is "undetermined". Seems it's a digital only title like the other RE HD re-releases, but will have a physical copy for PS3 in Japan. Will also have options for controls, can choose between traditional tank controls or modified controls for easier movement

EDIT: Looks like we have an official English announcement as well.

CAPCOM BRINGS BACK CLASSIC RESIDENT EVIL(TM) FOR NEXT AND CURRENT GEN PLATFORMS

Highly Demanded Fan Favourite Horror Title Returns in 2015

London, UK. -- August 5, 2014 -- Capcom, a leading worldwide developer and publisher of video games, today announced Resident Evil for PlayStation(R)4 computer entertainment system, PlayStation(R)3, Xbox One, the all-in-one games and entertainment system from Microsoft, Xbox 360 games and entertainment system from Microsoft and PC. Resident Evil will be available to purchase digitally across Europe and North America in Early 2015.

The hugely popular Resident Evil series, having sold over 61 million units to date, returns to its roots with a remastered version of the critically acclaimed masterpiece, Resident Evil. Originally released in 1996, Resident Evil was then "remade" in 2002 from the ground up with new visuals, gameplay elements, environments and story details whilst retaining the survival horror atmosphere the series had become synonymous for. Both fans of the franchise who want a trip down memory lane and those who are yet to experience the game that coined the term survival horror for the gaming world will appreciate this definitive re-visit of that iconic 2002 Resident Evil title.

Using the latest resolution enhancement and 3D model technology, game resolutions and textures have been significantly upgraded, including 1080p support on next-gen consoles, resulting in characters and backgrounds coming to life in greater detail than ever seen before in Resident Evil. Not only will the graphics impress but the tense sound effects have been fully remastered with 5.1 surround support for a greater gaming atmosphere. Players are now able to choose not only between experiencing the terror at the classic 4:3 ratio or a stunning 16:9 widescreen mode but also the type of control scheme they play with. The classic control scheme remains for fans of the original play style or there's an alternative scheme where the character moves directly in the direction of the analogue stick, utilizing the standards of the current generation of gaming. Both the control scheme and the display options can be toggled between at any time during gameplay.

The intense horror fans first experienced with the release of the original Resident Evil is back. Taking place in the now notorious Raccoon City, players choose to take on the role of either S.T.A.R.S. (Special Tactics and Rescue Service) team member Chris Redfield or Jill Valentine who have been sent into the city to find the missing Bravo team. When the team is suddenly attacked by a ferocious group of mutated dogs, desperate for an escape they take shelter in the Mansion, but will they ever get out alive again? Players will need to be brave as they adventure through the dark, enclosed spaces searching out the horrors that await them. With limited ammo and survival items available gamers will need to keep their wits about them to survive the various traps and puzzles that greet them at every stage.

CAPCOM sure are lazy bastards. We need 0 & 1-3. Just to complete the collection

It's awesome, but also a bit disappointing that we'll just get a Remastered version of REmake. RE needs to be rebooted, hard.

I don't see the two as related. And I doubt a reboot has any real possibility of happening anyway, at least anytime in the near future.

Really? Complaining about this? This is the most requested game in the series to be ported over bc so many never experienced it and they are finally doing it. The original trilogy has been ported over so many times that I don't see why they need to do it again to "complete" the collection. All the main games got a re-release for the series anniversary back in 2011
