Capcom The Resident Evil Thread

The Tyrant had a more Frankenstein's monster feel. Alexia and the plagas seemed like they could be supernatural.

@Rodrigo - was there a file in one of the demo endings that confirmed ghosts?

I don't recall seeing that :hmm

But there is something explaining hauntings going on.

Guys, there is absolutely no 100% confirmation that there is actually going to be supernatural ghosts in RE7. You are jumping the gun. All there is so far is a newspaper that references ghost sighting and a character in the demo/teaser that acts in the similar vein to a ghost, but it doesn't mean that it actually is a ghost. Unless someone has a early copy of the full game, we have no idea if there's actually ghosts in the game or not.

The plagas are parasites, and Alexia was simply infested and mutated by a strain of the T-Virus. There's nothing remotely supernatural in either.

I think the demo is closer to being on-point than you realize.

The brand of horror we're given reminds me of ReMake in that it relies more on ambiance than "look, flesh eating zombies" (which aren't scary to begin; I hold that RE never had really horrific enemies - zombies and giant frogmen don't really inspire much horror or fright imo). The demo's atmosphere is more like the outside segments of ReMake specifically. The dark paths leading down to Lisa's shack where you're cramped, hear noises, and don't know what could come at you from the woods.

Given the above, you could say the news about the demo not being part of the game is mildly disappointing. :p

As someone who has played the series from the beginning, I really can't say I agree. This doesn't have the feel of RE to me really at all. Much more something akin to Silent Hill. This is more about tension and psychological aspects, where as RE was always much more gothic horror in nature, far from subtle.

I really hope there's no supernatural thing here, like save that for Silent Hill or for another survival horror videogame. That is just not the Resident Evil for me. Hopefully the "supernatural" thing that we are seeing right now is just a product of some failed lab experiment, different virus, and these are just the new type of enemies that they create in the RE world.

And if the main protagonist of this game is indeed brand new, I hope she/he won't be a 1&done lead and would appear more in the future just like the classic RE characters.

Personally, I don't think it's going to end up being supernatural. The snippet of that newspaper in the trailer claiming that there's been ghosts sighting is just how the media perceives what's happening in that bayou/plantation house. Similar to the original game where the Raccoon City newspapers would report that murders were taking place on the outskirts near the Arklay Mountains but it wasn't until S.T.A.R.S uncovered that it was a biological outbreak.

In my opinion, in the demo's VHS tape sequences I think the "ghost" woman that appears is an hallucination, something I believe Capcom dabbled with in Resident Evil 4 before they settled with Las Plagas and a much more action oriented game.

Code:
That demo is frickin' creepy..

It's like, I know what happens in the demo while playing it but regardless it still makes me uneasy lol. I'm curious to experience this game in VR but I'd probably end up chucking the visor across the room from the scares.

Resident Evil took the leap into otherworldly territories when they introduced an ancient parasitic creature in 4.

But science has always been the creator of the franchise's enemies... I firmly believe that trend will continue and there'll end up being some scientific explanation if the paranormal elements exist within 7.

This.. It's like the paper in the first game that talked about "grizzly murders" or "bear attacks" something like that.

I just finished the demo, I'm 100% not ok with this. I hate being a fan that complains that "their" franchise has alienated them from it by changing directions. I'm sure some people felt this way when 4 came out and that is my #1game of all time so I hope someone else loves this game as much as I love 4.... I have accepted this is not "my" franchise anymore. Its been a good run.

If this game is set in the deep south around New Orleans, the press blaming ghosts wouldn't be unheard of. The supernatural's pretty big down there, what with the legends of Marie Laveau, voodoo and all that. We know Umbrella's been watching the plantation and that it is affiliated with The Family, who were dealing in viruses that were one Arthur C Clarke explanation away from being magic to the uneducated.

tl;dr: this is going to be a virus or parasite.

If I were to guess, based on comments from that last interview, you'll find out that the place is a big test ground for The Family. That would make sense to the whole, 'you really won't get what it has to do with the story of RE until later' thing they're going with. You'll probably stumble around for a long time, thinking about what any of the **** has to do with anything in the RE universe, find out you're part of a big research project, and slowly it'll start piecing itself into the overall canon.

If it is a genuine plantation, we may well get a spooky village like I'd hoped for in the slaves' quarters.

I'm sure I missed some files in 6, so help me here:

The Family - Illuminati like group
Umbrella - defunct
Veltro - the masked terrorists in 6 you fight in Chris's campaign in China and in Jake's Estonia campaign.
Neo Umbrella - the scientists supplying Veltro?

Thanks guys.

Neo Umbrella was Clara's (aka fake Ada's) organization in RE6. She had splintered off from Simmons and The Family to do her crazy thing. Veltro wasn't actually in RE6, I don't believe. They were only in the first Revelations as far as I can recall. They were just a dummy group created by the head of the Federal Bioterrorism Group to continue his relevance and power.

[FONT=&quot]Capcom has recently released released their newest entry in the Resident Evilfranchise, Umbrella Corps.[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]With the relying heavily on strategic action FPS mechanics, one would assume the PC multiplayer community would be all over this. However, it seems the community isn’t biting if you look at the Steam charts. The all-time peaked players is sitting steadily at 428 with a 24-hour peak at 326.[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]Umbrella Corps released in North America on June 21 on PlayStation 4 and PC. No word on how the online matchmaking it going with it’s console debut. These low numbers could be a means to the end for the fast paced action style Resident Evil games. With the core Resident Evil audience not accepting the action oriented game. Casual FPS players seemed to enjoy this action focused gameplay in most recent Resident Evil games. Although, those players are nowhere to be seen inUmbrella Corps.

Resident Evil 7 won't be abandoning its roots for a ghost story

If you've played the Resident Evil 7 demo on PlayStation 4, you might have noticed how much it resembles Konami's P.T. - their playable teaser for...

Shame about UC, as it is quite fun once you start playing.

And that is a relief about 7. Honestly, I think it's going to be a compacted story, unlike the past three. Resi meets the Texas Chainsaw family, only finding out that they're cannibals/monsters due to Umbrella's poisonous connection? Works for me :hehe:

Watched the Angry Joe review of UC. God that game looks terrible.

Yeah, definitely looks like another ORC. Glad I passed on it. Was thinking I may get it on sale, but I think I'll just end up passing unless it goes super, super cheap. I've got the re-releases to get my RE fix until 7.

I've been reading that people think the AI in RE5 has been improved to closer to RE6, though the AI can still die unlike 6. I'll tell you, if that's true, I'll be happy.

ORC was better than what this new one looks like. It looks so, so bad.

Id rather they revive Resident Evil Outbreak, but I dont trust current Capcom to actually make it decent. It was good, not great, but definitely could be improved with today's tech and advancement in gaming

I don't think Outbreak was really popular enough to warrant a revival, though maybe Capcom could do a remaster with online to test the waters. As bad as ORC was, it sold like 3 million copies iirc. UC will probably sell well, too, and it obviously doesn't have like half the budget that ORC had. There's an audience for these types of spin-offs out there, I guess.

A new Outbreak is what we should have gotten, instead of UC. From everything I've seen, I'm still baffled that it got released at all. It's a game that should have been canceled during development.

It'll sell, and it's rife for microtransitions, so it's not baffling. It may not be for you, or me, or most posting here, but there's an audience out there for it. If ORC can reach the levels it did, this will at least do decently.

There's no way Capcom was going to invest in a brand new Outbreak game, at least not one that plays like the older games.

A new Outbreak with the RE4 playstyle and camera would be great. Playing through a classic style RE story scenario in co-op sounds ideal to me.
