Capcom The Resident Evil Thread

i'd have liked some news or shots of the re2 remake but i wasnt holding my breath

The demo is interesting, but I'm honestly struggling to find anything that could be considered Resident Evil in it. I've no idea what the full game will turn out like. Will there be zombies? Will there be puzzles? There's not much to go on outside of a confusing demo that seems more reminiscent of the cancelled Silent Hill project.

I think RE2Make just isn't ready to be shown as of yet. The original announcement from, what, several months ago (maybe a year? I dunno) made it sound like the game had either just entered development or was very early in it.

It was actually announced last summer. Sometime in August IIRC.

TGS would be a great place to show off RE2REmake. The RE7 stuff served as a great way for Sony to show that there are some heavy hitting AAA titles coming to PSVR.

I just played it and I cant beleive Capcom has the nerve to call that thing Resident Evil VII

Agreed - especially after RE5 and 6.

Disappearing creatures like the spooky lady on the stairs - remember the Novistadors?

What it similar to?(my PSN ran out so I can't DL it). From the trailers it deff doesn't seem like RE to me. Like they went too far in the other direction compared to RE 5&6.

A P.T. clone. To say its a departure is quite an understatement. I heard someone describe it as a horror walking simulator. I didnt get far enough to see if there is combat you explore a dark abandoned house in first person. Its very un-Resident Evil like. People wanted it to embrace its horror roots but this is a different genre and not the third person survival horror from the mid 90s or even the shooter it evolved into

The playable teaser is not actually part of the game according to developer

Frankly I don't know how to feel about it. I've only seen the trailer, and I like the return to horror, but it doesn't feel like RE like everyone else has already said.

Hmmm, well that's kinda weak. Guess it's true in the saying "be careful what u ask for". We said no more action, more horror and well here we are.

Cue in Tron to say

I played it a few times before. Got a few different endings. It's really just different phone calls. You still get the same ending after the call ends. I'm assuming it's just a vague prequel to the story. I'll be shocked if the rest of the game is as supernaturally as the demo. The closest thing to a RE feeling was the Umbrella logo placed in there on a plane which is in a photograph.

I tuned into the Sony conference last night right in the middle of the them showing this. I thought it was a new Silent Hill and was shocked to see RE7 at the end.

It makes me sad that Silent Hill is pretty much dead

I think the demo is closer to being on-point than you realize.

The brand of horror we're given reminds me of ReMake in that it relies more on ambiance than "look, flesh eating zombies" (which aren't scary to begin; I hold that RE never had really horrific enemies - zombies and giant frogmen don't really inspire much horror or fright imo). The demo's atmosphere is more like the outside segments of ReMake specifically. The dark paths leading down to Lisa's shack where you're cramped, hear noises, and don't know what could come at you from the woods.

Given the above, you could say the news about the demo not being part of the game is mildly disappointing. :p

Even if the demo isn't part of the game, that doesn't rule out the setting, atmosphere, potential ghost-enemies, etc, being part of the final game. It still echoes what that guy says at the end to you about being part of the family.

In Resident Evil's world, it's all about science and nature... Science being considered a religion, science forming new nature... Even going round that spooky mansion in RE1, did any of us ever think about ghosts when wandering that place? No, just zombies. It's all psychological.

Now, 7 states that the REU contains ghosts... And in our own world, don't we have the supernatural in it, too? There's no reason to rule out that aspect.

Now this ghost, she may be an enemy we encounter who originates from another plane of existence, she may be an hallucination, heck, she may be some telekinetic Umbrella science experiment gone horribly wrong... Outlast was all about implying the supernatural being involved, until we found out that Walrider was birthed through science...

Perhaps this ghost has no connection to the man inside the house. Perhaps she does. Perhaps this whole event is some Cabin in The Woods thing.

There's too many theories and possible explanations, but the supernatural element shouldn't be entirely ruled out as some form of acid trip...

And if anybody knows about Capcom's Sweet Home... this demo reminded me of that than RE!

People *****ed about 6 and 7 but the series has always been more of a sci-fi thing than a horror thing. Umbrella was always behind whatever Leon, Chis, Jill and Claire faced.

Hopefully the supernatural stays out of Resident Evil. The franchise doesn't need that. There are plenty of other supernatural game franchises that can take care of that.
Never really thought about it like that I guess. The stuff is caused by a virus of course but some of the end effects like Tyrant seem a bit supernatural even if they aren't. :woot:

The Tyrant had a more Frankenstein's monster feel. Alexia and the plagas seemed like they could be supernatural.

@Rodrigo - was there a file in one of the demo endings that confirmed ghosts?

Im actually fine with a supernatural take but that doesnt seem like it fits into the universe that they created back in the mid 90s. This would have served better as a reboot or its own franchise. I'll wait to hear more to see how it all works out
