Yikes.
Which is why was so good....Yikes.
No wonder they are back to scratch. First person perspective sucks!
Like I said before, if they are going to keep 1st person, why not do both 1st person and 3rd person. If Rockstar can do it with their last two open world video games, I don't see why Capcom can't do both in their linear games that have a story campaign of 8 to 12 hours.
Have you played Resident Evil 7? If so, how would you make that game, with a third person option?I don’t mind 1st person but I definitely prefer 3rd person for RE games
They should just include both and let the gamer choose which one they prefer to play with
You keep naming open world RPGs. In the case of Elder Scrolls, one with awful gameplay. Do you not realize those are very different styles of games? This is like asking why doesn't Doom have a third person option. Why doesn't Half-Life 2 have a third person option.Elder Scrolls offered the option between first and third person.
I honestly don't remember when and for what did I mention other open world RPGs before, but a good game mechanic transcends genre and bad games. You keep naming open world RPGs. Its fine for people to want 3rd person... after all mostof their games, well starting with re4 have been in 3rd person. Its not like going to a Far Cry thread, complaining that its in 1st person.
Personally speaking, I'd like to see the back and face of the character's I'm playing. The fact that they dudnt even show Ethan's face in a cutscene is baffling. And the other games before re7 were definitely spooky, at leastin my experience. And If they aren't scary, thats not because of the camera perspective.
Yeah I get that first person especially in horror games can add more tension but I prefer the third person perspective and helps me connect to the character I'm playing. I didn't really connect with Ethan simply because he wasn't really shown except for his hands. What makes first person survival horror more effective is the limited peripheral and restricted perspective. It makes the player feel more vulnerable and allows enemy npc's to get much closer to the character. The blind side is much bigger. It's also much closer to a person's real perspective which makes the player relate more to the character's vulnerability and fear.
Think about your own real life restricted peripheral vision. If you were in an unknown scary place with potential violent threats nearby would you feel more vulnerable with your normal first person perspective or if you had a constant camera feed from above you showing you a complete view of your back and surroundings at all times?
The over the shoulder perspective in Dead Space is a good middle ground, tho.
Really? I had no idea. I don’t think I’ve even played 6 yet. That’s awesome news if so. I’d be really happy as I’ve always held a soft spot for the franchise. The complaining about the potential leaks is cracking me up. Resident Evil 7 is arguably the best game in the series, and people are acting like it is trash.![]()
That’s exactly how I feel. I strongly prefer third person games for this reason, but as you also said, it’s understandable that first person would be more scary in a horror game.Yeah I get that first person especially in horror games can add more tension but I prefer the third person perspective and helps me connect to the character I'm playing. I enjoy 6. It has a lot of problems, but the branching paths all play well enough and it is a lot of fun. But then again, I played 5 and 6 in co-op with my brother, which made them instantly more enjoyable.Really? I had no idea. I don’t think I’ve even played 6 yet. That’s awesome news if so. Funny you mention that camera perspective, when it was Resident Evil 4 that popularized it.What makes first person survival horror more effective is the limited peripheral and restricted perspective. RE2 has always been my favourite and I love 1 for the nostalgia. 4 came out at a time when I had got busy with other non-gaming stuff so I missed all the hype of it. It’s always been on my list to complete but I had a very bad experience of dying to the first zombie in the game which put me off for a few years.I enjoy 6. That said, I think 7 is fantastic. A big departure, but I have never been beholden to the formula. My God tier for Resident Evil games is:
Resident Evil 2 Remake
Resident Evil 7
Resident Evil 4
4 is a little dated at this point, but I can see an argument for any of them being the best in the series. I am so excited for 3's remake. It looks like a legit re-imagining.
It's funny, the different experiences we all have with games. I had no choice but to play 4. My brother had 3 version of the game about the time it was 2 years old. I could not escape it. Since then he has bought it on every console he owns, including the PC.RE2 has always been my favourite and I love 1 for the nostalgia. 4 came out at a time when I had got busy with other non-gaming stuff so I missed all the hype of it. Haha. Is there some difference between the versions? It's funny, the different experiences we all have with games. I had no choice but to play 4. There was between the Gamecube, PS2 and Wii ones, which were the first 3 released. Since then it has kind of just become a tradition for him. Having it available and beating it on all the different consoles.Haha. Is there some difference between the versions?
