Capcom The Resident Evil Thread

I have to admit I am finding it difficult getting into the REmake, I just can't seem to get into it like I did for the Zero remake which is strange considering I had never played Zero before.

Multiplayer shooter Umbrella Corps is "a warm up."

Capcom will launch a “full-scale” Resident Evil game by the end of its fiscal year ending March 31, 2017, the company’s latest financial results reveal.

The news comes via the following quote:
In the fiscal year ending March 31, 2017, the Company is scheduled to release the strategic titles of “Sengoku BASARA: Sanada Yukimura-den” (for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3), which showcases the life of Sanada Yukiura, and “Resident Evil: Umbrella Corps” (for PlayStation 4 and PC) of the “Resident Evil” series, which marked its 20th anniversary in March 2016, as a warm up to the full-scale offensive planned for the second half of the year. Additionally, the Company is also scheduled to launch “Ace Attorney 6” (for the Nintendo 3DS system) and “Monster Hunter Stories” (for the Nintendo 3DS system).
Whether or not this “full-scale offensive” is Resident Evil 7 remains to be seen.
Umbrella Corps is due out for PlayStation 4 and PC on June 21.

Prepare for disappointment then. 7 has been in development for a long time, 2 just started development.

Hopefully its announced as a complete reboot of the series. It'll be good to see another original AAA game by Capcom. I think Dead Rising and SFV ar the only two they've released this gen

Hopefully it's not a complete reboot of the series, since it's not needed.

ok I'm back and this was added tothe same article later to day.

Capcom planning “full-scale offensive” for second half of new fiscal year

(Editor’s Note:
We had originally misinterpreted this quote as Capcom planning to release a “full-scale”
Resident Evil
before the end of the fiscal year ending March 31, 2017. However, looking at the
Japanese version
of the press release, it is clear that Capcom is referring to a “full-scale offensive” in general following the releases of the aforementioned games.)

I rather have them finish the story before thinking of rebooting.

Tbh, what's left to finish here? RE is literally going on with no sense of direction.

Wut? The end of RE6 set up a new threat with The Family and a potential new protagonist (or at least important player) with Jake. Revelations 2 also sets up a new potential singular villain with Alex Wesker. So, there's actually a good sense of direction of where the series is going, and a lot of new threads to potentially follow up on.

From a creative and story standpoint, there's no real reason to reboot since there's an ongoing mythos and new threads have been introduced to follow up on in recent entries. The only reason I could see is some fan-******* reason to go back to the mansion or Raccon City, but whatever, play REMake HD and there's a RE2 remake coming.

Financially, there's no reason to. RE is selling more than ever with RE5 being the highest selling RE ever with RE6 right behind. Spin-offs and remasters sell 1 million+ within a month. It's a very healthy franchise, and it appeals well to broad demographics, so it's not like super successful in one region and not another.

Gameplay-wise, they can change it up without rebooting as RE4 showed. If they want to make a significant change there, they can do so without throwing out the mythos.

So yeah, there's no reason at all. If anything, it would make little sense to do so overall.

What's even The Family? Why should I care? Why should I get excited for another half baked storyline? These games are literally dragging themselves to remain relevant. They aren't interesting anymore. Leon was the most decent character in 6 and that's because I'm a huge fan of RE2 & 4. The writing has been terrible recently. We're reaching the half time of an entire generation and Capcom still hasn't followed 6 up. Their storylines are literally convoluted, not in a good way.

This is coming from someone who enjoyed the last main game, mostly Leon's part, but that game gives me no hopes for another one. And I've seen a lot of people feeling this way.

I'm not asking for a return of the set camera, mansion style and etc. Just that creepy and unsettling vibe RE4 often gave me, not that Call Of Duty rip off that was Chris' campaign.

It's not hard.

The writing, in general, has always been terrible in RE games. The mythos is solid, but the storytelling has always been on the poor side. That is, by no means, a recent thing. If anything, the writing has gotten slightly better with Revelations 2, though I think that'll end up being a fluke more than anything.

The Family is an unknown group of people who are actively trying to control world events through planned Biohazards and Bioweapons. They are mentioned numerous times through RE6's campaigns and the files you can obtain.

But anyway, your original post said what was left to finish, so I told you. Whether you have interest in that is up to you, obviously, but there's definitely numerous plot points that have been introduced that can be followed up upon.

Yes, they aren't anything stellar, but those old storylines still managed to get me hooked. That's the thing, they're exciting.

Sounds like The Familia is another Wesker slash Umbrella. But who knows. I just want to know where the series is going. That's all I ask.

Eh, I guess? I mean, really, if you were to isolate the story alone for these games I really don't think you'd have anything all that interesting. The settings, atmosphere, etc. were what kept those games exciting. Some people think the series has lost that, which they're entitled to, but I don't, and sales seem to indicate the majority don't, either.

What little we know about The Family is more akin to an Illuminati group than Umbrella, which was basically a large corporation trying to benefit from illegal and dangerous research, or Wesker, who was going solo and trying to transform the world into some kind of giant zombieland or something outrageously dumb. But yeah, it's hard to know for sure based on what little info we have what form they'll end up taking.

I think, storywise, the last two new titles (RE6 and Revelations 2) show a pretty good indication of where the series is headed. I don't know what else you could really want, to be honest. They are going to leave the actual story to the games, not detail them in full in news articles or whatever.

Other stuff like gameplay-wise and such, I would expect that not a lot of change will come to the series. Despite all the hate the current direction gets online, the series still sells better than ever and is, by far, Capcom's most stable franchise outside maybe Monster Hunter, but that game's success mostly comes from one region. I don't expect a lot of shaking of the boat. But Capcom is an odd bird, it's hard to tell with them sometimes.

Resident Evil 0 remaster sold 800,000, new Monster Hunter title due out by March 2017

New Monster Hunter title in addition to Monster Hunter Stories.

RE0-Sales-800K.jpg

Total sales for Capcom’s Resident Evil 0 remaster topped approximately 800,000 units, Capcom president Haruhiro Tsujimoto said.

“Last fiscal year Resident Evil 0 HD remaster performed favorably with approximately 800 thousand units sold, and additionally we released Resident Evil 6 for PS4 and Xbox One,” Tsujimoto said during the financial results briefing for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2016.

“This year marks the twentieth anniversary of the Resident Evil franchise; we plan to release PS4 and Xbox One versions of Resident Evil 4 and 5, and what‟s more, we are currently working on a full remake of Resident Evil 2
Tsujimoto also confirmed that Capcom plans to release the following new titles this fiscal year, which ends March 31, 2017:

  • Monster Hunter Title (planned for two million sales)
  • Major Title #1 (planned for four million sales)
  • Major Title #2 (planned for two million sales)
It’s worth noting that “Monster Hunter Title” is not Monster Hunter Stories, Capcom’s spin-off RPG for 3DS, but something entirely separate, as Tsujimoto notes the above titles are “in addition” to previously announced titles Monster Hunter Stories, Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney – Spirit of Justice, and Umbrella Corps.

The major title planned for 4 million units is probably RE7 with a low ball estimate due to the under performance of SFV. Don't know what the other one would be. RE2Make, possibly, but I can't imagine that's going to be out by March 2017 unless that is a much smaller scale project than many are imagining.

Revelations 2 worked out very well, so I wouldn't have a problem with that honestly. Episodic games don't bother me as long as they're on time.

I agree. I wouldn't have much of a problem with that. I'm hoping for it to be in the same vein of REmake and 0, but episodic would be fine.

If it's episodic, then I won't be getting it until the physical version which will have everything comes out. Never was a fan of that. It's why I'm waiting for the complete version of the new Hitman to come out.

At this point, a reboot wouldn't make sense. Like if they are gonna reboot, are they gonna rehash the story from the 90s videogames? There's already the Umbrella Chronicles and Darkside Chronicles which covered the early chapters of the franchise, no need to retell that. Then we already got a remaster of a remaster of RE1. Then RE2's remaster is already in the works and if it becomes a success, I wouldn't be surprised if RE3 gets one too. While RE0 also recently got a remastered version. For the people who are new to the series, they could just pick up the remaster edition of the videogames that I just mentioned.

Story-wise and gameplay wise, they just need to go back to basics - survival horror, lots of puzzles to solve and keys to find and enough with these corporations/organizations that are only important in 1 videogame. Personally I would like them to drop the co-op feature and they need to introduce someone that can be as popular as Leon, Chris and Jill, that we would see that person in multiple chapters of the series. Also build a trilogy for a new Umbrella or something, not like one-offs like Tricell. Like seriously every time there's a new game, there's a new corporation taking advantage of these G-viruses and there's a new squad hunting these bio terrorists. It was much simplier before when it was only Umbrella with the Stars officers from Raccoon City taking them down. For RE7 to RE9, they need to center around a corporation as the new big bad and center around an organization or a squad that tracks down these bio terrorists and IMO, that could be more interesting to see how the story moves forward.... unlike in RE4/RE5/RE6 and the Revelations game, where main antagonist is dead by the end of the game and you have these people working for different organizations and agencies which is harder to track of.

I'd put money on a reboot. Say what you want but the vast majority panned 6. I myself don't mind it.. But I fully expect them to start back at one. They'll give us a brand new version of RE1.. The RE2 remake will pick up from that I'd bet.

Maybe not and I honestly don't care either way... But if I was a betting man I'd say Capcom won't care about continuing a story from a game that most people didn't like.. And instead will try to win back the original back bon fans of the series.

I also hope if it is a reboot they don't just call it RE. Call it RE: Biohazard or something. The two names together. I always preferred the Biohazard name anyway.

Resident Evil doesn't make sense after the first game.

Call it... Zombie Evil :o
