The Riddler Casting Thread

The thing with serial killers is that they typically get their rocks off by murdering people. I wouldn't want that with Riddler. I think Andrew Scott's Moriarty in the BBC Sherlock series is the closest approximation to what I'd want the Riddler to be. A hyper-intelligent sociopath who isn't afraid to put others in harm's way for the sake of playing games with Batman.

Exactly. One can be an evil and dangerous villain without being a stock serial killer. In the case of the Riddler, threatening the lives of people should only really be done as a way to force the Batman to play his games. It shouldn't be something where successful murder is the goal.

Huh, here's a question. What if the casting of the Riddler were a mystery to the audience before film release, because the structure of the story has the Riddler only "appearing" via video recording, distorted TV transmissions, etc, all with his identity concealed? All Batman ( and the audience ) has to go on is a stylized cartoon image that looks sort of like the classic Riddler, and a scrambled voice to go with it. The Riddler would only appear in person in the climactic scene where Batman finally tracks down and determines his true identity. . . or perhaps appears beforehand, because the Riddler has a secret identity and appears in another role during the movie.

Would this be worthwhile?

Might as well just cast Spacey then

We keep it a secret and then he pops up from Batman's basement!

Whoever suggested Eddie Izzard as Edward Nygma/The Riddler now that is genius

Very cool, kind of a whodunnit mystery, like Fincher's Zodiac, with multiple suspects

I'm still in for Michael Pitt as a Brian Azzarello style Riddler.

What is a good Azzarello Riddler story? Or are you just referring to his appearance in Joker? I thought it was pretty clever, the question mark cane because his spine and legs are "crooked as a question mark". Idk if Azzarello was the first one to come up with that, I had never seen it before, but it was a perfect fit

The problem is that I've wanted Michael Pitt to play Joker for years...

Hmm, Pitt would be a good replacement for Leto while still maintaining the general image and tone but maybe they should just skip over to Joe Anderson and avoid a different kind of on-set jerk.

Just replace Pitt with Anderson once he inevitably ditches the role and everyone's happy, lol
