The Robin OYL Thread

Bull****. They better goddamn well give some explanation that the Lazarus Pit ****ed up Cassandra's head or something because that chick in Robin was absolutely nothing like the Cassandra that appeared for the entire duration of the Batgirl series.

.....

Told ya so...

you and your boyfriend leauger shouldnt have doubted me :D

but hey, i'm just as pissed as u are

Here's the way I see this--

I wouldn't exactly call Cass a full-fledged VILLIAN. I mean, the League of Assassins has always been more of the ruthless vigilantie-like group, under Ra's al Ghul. Cass here does seem at peace with the fact that she's a killer, and seems to want to do good, albiet kill the bad guys that they catch. She still seems to have animosity for Cain, though, but really, could you blame her? I don't care how forgiving she might have been at the end of her title, but no one would forget or completely forgive what David did to her, ESPICALLY when she found out that there were more kids he tortured and brainwashed.

Also, it seems like Cass wants to shack up with Robin--a prospect I really don't mind, and, quite frankly, I was surprised when it DIDN'T happen when they were in Bludhaven together.

Can't wait until the next issue! :D

Yeah i've been following this one. I have to say i'm very very sad and disappointed with the recent turn of events. I wanted Cassandra to go places. If they wanted her to be an assassin so bad why didn't they just do that in the first place. I mean all that work she had to do just to become normal just to go back to killing again. The mental traumas from the killing at a young age and all that ****. Way to go DC.

All of that, especially the bits about accepting that she's a killer like it's some immutable part of her, is totally wrong for Cassandra's character. Either Beechen just never bothered to research Batgirl and has absolutely no idea how to write her properly or Cassandra's been influenced by something (most likely the Lazarus Pit).

Goddamnit.

And with one profound word Corpy sums up exactly how I feel after reading Robin. :o

I thought all I had to complain about was how he was drawn and characterized so young....guess again.

Yeah, Jones should work on making Robin look more like an adult and less like a middle-schooler.

Just another case of a character getting screwed with because their book wasn't selling well enough.

I'm sure all the rabid Barb-Batgirl fans didn't help either.

I really liked Cassandra Cain. She was probably the best thing to happen to the Bat family in a long time.

I agree. Best thing to happen to the Bat-family since Tim became Robin and Barbara became Oracle, at any rate.

Yeah, I see what you're getting at, but I can understand Cass' motivation here as well.

But, this guy's done pretty well with this story so far, I'm more than willing to see where he's going with it.

It is a good story. I guess I'm just becoming the stereotypical comic book fan who is afraid of any and all change to their beloved characters.

Cassandra was great as Batgirl, and I'm sure she will be great as the leader of the League of Assassins.

Kinda funny how her and Shiva just kind of switched roles. Maybe Cass should have been in BoP instead. That may have saved her career.

You guys do realize they could just be setting it up as Robin convincing her that those ways are wrong, right?

I'm hoping that's the case. It's just that Cassandra becoming the leader of the League of Assassins and going all Punisher on everyone is so wildly out of character for her that there has to be something else to the story, or Beechen may as well just hang up his pen because he'd be illustrating that he's utterly incapable of understanding Cassandra's character in the least. Her appearance in Robin #150 is pretty much the exact opposite of everything she worked for for most of her life.

I still can't get over the name Beechen. That has to be a pen name or something.

"Who's writing Robin?" "Beechen." "*****in? I asked who's writing Robin."

She really was out of character in the issue, especially with the mentioning of Bruce to Tim and saying all they are to him are "puppets." She acted as if she was holding in all that aggression for the longest time, and once finally confronting Tim in her new state was where she let it all out. Not to mention she came on to him alot, asking him to join her in the League of Assassins to start their new life together.

Lazurus Pit madness doesn't last that long. It's a few minutes thing at best. Cassie was last seen pre-IC. I'd think she would be over any effects of the pit. Unless she was brainwashed, like in Death and the Maidens.

maybe they will explain it like the maddness from the LP brought on a "moment of clarity" for her or something... not like shes exactly think clearly, but she could believe what shes doing is the right path due to that... maybe?
