Captain Marvel The Rotten Tomatoes/Critic's Reaction Thread

Here come the emotionally invested fanboys.

Yeah critics aren't biased. They aren't humans who are subject to social pressure, beliefs, ideologies, personal preferences, etc. Keep telling yourself that, lol.
And you’ve spent the last week here doing basically nothing but ranting against the actress in this movie and defending the trolls who’ve been attacking it, so you can just keep telling yourself you’re unbiased too, but I’ll be paying more attention to the critics, the ones who’ve actually seen the movie and don’t care about the actors’ politics, thanks.

And before you get on that Brie/troll topic again, I’d just like to remind you to keep it in the Brie thread.

I posted my opinion on the subject like anybody else.
Defending trolls? no. Explaining the backlash? yes.

Go ahead, pay attention to the critics. Like I care.

Damn that’s pretty late for a Marvel movie.
Any reason to worry about this ? They have been screening the movie for quite some time now so the embargo is probably not based on any fear of spoilers getting out there.

That’s a very weird choice.

No, the social media embargo lifted over a week ago. All buzz from critics is great. The review embargo is lifting the morning after the LA premiere (which is happening pretty late due to the Oscars), which is fairly standard. IW’s embargo lifted just as late.

Yeah that makes sense. Didn’t know the US premiere was scheduled that late. Thanks. ;)

I still think this was a bad move by Rotten Tomatoes. bad press is still good, however, by them removing it has opened up a lot more cans of worms, I remember people did this to avengers: infinity war due to the fear of it being over taking TDK etc, but it still out performed.

I didn't realize that Marvel, lucas film, and new line all had a huge ownership in Rotten Tomatoes...yet Disney themselves did not.

Just because it had a 27% want to see score doesn't really mean much if the movie itself is good, as if it is good people will still go see it, and the score will rise.

However, by them taking the ability down it really hurts the integrity of an already questioned Rotten Tomatoes, and as more comes to light about the companies inner workings, I think by removing it only hurts Captain Marvel more so than it would have keeping it.

Letting "trolls" win by removing part of your system isn't a good move.

I don't personally take the RT scores seriously or most critics, e.g. Aquaman had reviewers who praised the CGI and risk, and reviewers who hated it.

So ultimately I knew there was a lot of CGI in the movie, and depending on how I wanted to view the necessity of the CGI is how I could formulate my own opinion.

Most of the early reviews that were ripping Captain Marvel to shreds was more about them hating on brie larson. Okay, again, even if I don't like Brie Larson that has nothing to do with the film, and it could still be a good film.

Is that how trolls are spinning it? That it's a win for them because they no longer have an avenue to spam on the site they specifically targeted?

If anything this is just the first step for RT to remove the audience score completely. My problem with this action is it doesn't solve the problem, it only delays it. No reason for a critical aggregate site to have fan votes anyway.

The only reason the audience score would be in the 60s is because of all the people giving bad reviews and scores to the movie when it's not even out yet.
No one gave "a review" why are people still saying this?

There's a lot of crap going on around this movie but I still think it's going to make BANK.

Me, I'm laughing at all of this. In my experience, most of the trolls end up going to see the film they hate just to hate "more righteously". "I saw the movie this weekend, and it sucked so hard!! What? Yeah, I paid for my ticket, and I took my other troll friend and his mom who drove us there."

No big whoop. My daughter wants to see it. It's Marvel, so I'm taking the family. This movie will make huge bank, and it'll either succeed or fail on the backs of the story and it's contribution to the overall MCU. Brie may enhance or hurt the film, but her politics won't make it or break it.

As for the RT thing, I've wondered for years how the Audience score was even a thing. I mean, you have people who will happily post on a review site for a movie they want to fail (because some people have nothing better to do), and there's no way to verify people have seen the movie at all. It's an honor system, which in an increasingly dishonorable world, just doesn't work.

Same goes inversely for the righteous indignation many exhibits when describing someone who doesn't want to see a film you have fandom for as a "troll." This is why they act out more. Both sides need to chill out for real.

Doubt most of those votes were even from trolls. Remember when trolls tried to boycott BP? How did that turn out?

The fact that BP didn't take any damage from trolls tells me the low score for Captain Marvel was more due to the backlash of Brie Larson's words than actual trolls.

We've already been through this in the Brie Larson thread so I'm not sure why you have to bring it back here. The backlash was due to these Youtubers who had ran out of material on TLJ so they created a new narrative in order to get views. Twisted and made up comments by Brie Larson to make it seem like she hates white men. In case you still think so, there are no comments like that. Not sure if this the right thread for this either but as a European white male, I'm almost stunned how insecure and Walter Pecks these so called "white men" in America are. Constantly *****ing and whining about sjw and feminists. I mean ffs, my country Finland is one of the more progressive and gender equality leading countries on the planet but we have and have had feminists during my life time. None of them have whined or complained during my life time as much as these so called "men" on these various Youtube channels and sites. If they tried saying even some of the stuff that's on their channels for example in a male dominated workplace in Finland, they'd be laughed out of the building.
