Captain Marvel The Rotten Tomatoes/Critic's Reaction Thread

I mean not everyone is going to love it, and while most have admitted that it does have problems even those that weren't over the moon about said its still a very enjoyable film. It does sound a lot like Doctor Strange, but I actually enjoyed that movie quite a bit , so I don't mind it.

Facts. Seeing how we were all freaking out initially, I wonder how it will go the day Marvel eventually has its first rotten movie.

I remember when Digific was gloating about Marvel's first pie in the face when Ant-Man did its First Avenger-ish start on the meter. Good times.

What this proves once again is that Marvel is a strong well liked brand.
They have a wining formula that hit's the perfect balance which in turn appeals to the masses.

The RT score is actually taylormade for the MCU movies. Some might even not be great or good but they don't put people off and that's already a bonus going in.

Ant Man and I believe TFA both started rotten and rose and rose and rose.

RT score keeps going higher, further, faster!

For me it is all about the consensus. No matter how much my tastes align with certain critics, I won't agree with them all of the time. But if you take hundreds of critics and 90% of them say it is good (or bad) then chances are that's going to be an accurate reflection of the film's quality. I don't certainly don't agree with the consensus all of the time, there are obviously going to be films where I'm in the 10% contrarian view, but I agree with it far, far more often than I don't and so it remains a very valuable tool in deciding what to spend my time and money on.

I'm not high on Dr. Strange either. It's not a bad movie, but felt more like a better than average Phase 1 movie in terms of the story. If CM is more interesting than that movie, I'll be good.

As much as I love the movie even I know its RT score (which was what 90%?) was way too high even knowing that it is just an aggregate number.

But that is the thing you can acknowledge somethings flaws and still love it. That is what some people don't get.

It is a Phase 1 movie quality-wise except it has extremely impressive and inventive visuals. Among the best I've seen and certainly among the best of the MCU. That does give it a bit of a boost upwards. Probably enough to push some mixed reviews into positive reviews, which is why it is so high at RT.

It's an excellent RT score for Captain Marvel. Brings it up to the Top 5 in the MCU.
The only worrying sign is that average score... 7 is a very average grade.

I liked Dr. Strange, but it is more middle of the pack MCU for me. Great visuals and when it works it works well, but especially the love story element of the movie was meh. I am very excited for Dr. Strange 2, though. I think his appearance in IW was his best outing to date and cannot wait to see them build off that.

Feel exactly the same.

Eh, the reviews aren't that bad honestly. I was expecting worse. The problem here (and I've been saying this for months) is that Marvel overhyped the character and the movie so much that now a merely "good" movie isn't going to be enough.

It's all their fault.

Sounds like he has a chip on his shoulder about Brie to me
IndieWire is the reason the "Brie Larson hates white men" debate started in the first place. They took her words out of context and made a clickbait title out of it... **** them.
