Captain Marvel The Rotten Tomatoes/Critic's Reaction Thread

Yeah, at this point it will be a miracle if it stays in the 80s.
Captain Marvel, lowest rated movie of Phase 3. Who would've thunk.

That picture will never not be funny :funny:
Have a little faith, it could be worse, and you might actually love it more than most critics.

I wouldn't be so sure. We are already over 100 reviews and things don't seem to be getting better at this point.
It's now at 83 %.

3 rotten and 3 fresh reviews incoming.

Yh but not everyone seen the movie, so until I'll friday or Saturday I'll wait. If it goes down to 78 then yh its game over, but if it stays at 83 and 84 until Friday then it has a chance to go up. Especially if the reactions to the movie, keep coming in fresh.

I've never tried to compare my taste in movies to that of any critic. I mostly agree with RT, but I don't let that persuade me to see or skip a movie, I just check out the movie I'm interested in.
I’ve just followed critics for so long I’ve learned certain ones whose tastes usually align with mine. Which doesn’t do much to persuade or dissuade me on a movie like this that I was guaranteed to see no matter what, but is usually helpful for movies I’m not sure if I want to waste an afternoon on. And for movies like this, they just give me that extra comfort/confidence that yeah, I’m in for a good time.

Don't put too much weight on these scores. I'm not ashamed to say that Age of Ultron is one of my favourites in the MCU and that movie has a 75% RT, which is still a good score!
I don't. I like what i like. And i also like Age of Ultron.
I'm not a big fan of Civil War, i didn't like GOTG2, i loved GOTG... So what the hell do i know... It's a matter of personal taste.

CM seems more like their average origin film, competent but with its own issues. Beginning to think origin films are becoming tougher to do because of how many have been done and how similar many are to one another.

We've seen so many that it's difficult to keep them fresh.

It is just funny how everyone was saying it will be the best superhero film and it turns out to be just another film. I remember Armin of ComicBookXast saying how it will "blow Wonder Woman out of the water" it's just hilarious to see how some will backpedal when this is more on the level of an early Thor movie vs. a later Captain America one.

You have extremely selective hearing if u truly believe “everyone” thought this would be the best superhero film of the year over Avengers.

At 84% fresh it still might be. Higher score than Infinity War last year and exactly 33% higher than the average weighed DCEU film.

Yea. So what's the alternative, skip it? You can do that for popular characters like spiderman, Superman and Batman that have been rebooted a lot, but not obscure characters like Captain Marvel, Eternals, Gotg, Aquaman and the rest.

You can also do something similar to BP by introducing him in a previous film and then filling in his backstory in their own solo debut. CM seems to have tried doing a combo CW/BP intro for her in one movie and it's kinda been hit-or-miss with the critics.

Are you suggesting this will be better than Infinity War? Lmao!

It doesn't matter anyway the reasons I didn't think I'd like the film are echoed in most reviews saying Brie has wooden or is trying too hard to be tough. Most of the reviews saying she's not the highlight but a drawback or at least just fine. Sounds like a blast said no one.

And if you really want to do apples to apples Wonder Woman is still at 93% almost 10% more. Again that doesn't mean much but since we're just bringing up irrelevant facts.

What I'm wondering about is the rewatchability of this film for the people who like it. That's really going to help it though in the end though I have no desire to watch it in the theaters but I hope those that do like it continue to support it and if people I know recommend it I might stream it when it comes out.

85%. 33% higher than the DCEU average and one percent higher than the MCU average. Sounds good to me.

So to be clear, you haven't actually watched the movie, but consider yourself to be its 'critic'.

I didn't say it would be better than Infinity War, just that it could end up being the highest rated superhero film on RT for the year given recent history and still could be.

Is this mix up how you came to your conclusion that "everyone" came into the year thinking this film would be better than Avengers 4 :funny:

I give them credit for at least giving her powers from the start instead having to wait halfway through the movie.

Eh, I'm just messing around, it's not the score itself that bothers me (I love IW and that movie has the same score as CM).

It's the content of the reviews. I was really hoping Marvel would put more effort into the first female-led movie, but apparently not.

We have a very different definition of "most", because based on what I'm seeing, Brie's performance is getting almost unanimously praised, at least by professional critics.

Why bring the RT score up at all then? You make a habit of just saying things that have no meaning?

If you read through this thread it was a mistake to say "everyone" and meant to say "everyone that said."
